RARE to Catch this Fish! Catch Clean Cook (Hogfish)

- This is the second day we fished with our buddy Max from @GROUPERMVP . Our goal was to catch Hogfish aka hog snapper on hook and line! Most people spear these fish, as they are often surrounded by dozens of other species that eat your bait first. We used live shrimp on 1oz jig heads in 50ft of water to target these rare hook and line fish.

Hogfish is my favorite fish in florida to eat hands down, but you have to catch a keeper in season first, not easy to do lol. Great video Vic, keep up the great work!

Another grate video love all the recipes I learn from watching you'r channel. I'm from Colorado and own property right on the river I eat fish at least 3 times a week and I must say most of the recipes you do taste amazing with Brown trout and rainbow trout .
I LOVE leftover cold fried fish. Seriously top 5 favorite food. It was always in the ice chest when camping and could satisfy that 2 am craving.

Try saltine cracker crumbs ,hand crumble them in the package not to fine they are amazing I do use a egg wash ,make sure your fish is dry 😉

We called the strawberry groupers sandwich groupers. You get two nice sandwich sized fillets of of each one and they are yum!

I was told that if you fry potatoes in the oil it cleans it. Oil can be used a couple of times if not burnt.

Chef Michaels HogFish in Islamorada is the best restaurant I've ever experienced. Grilled HogFish wil two lobster tails and a lick the plate sauce. Best meal I've had to date

My first trip to the keys, first bridge i went to. I was on the shore by the bridge. I didnt know anything about florida fish at all. The first fish i caught was a gigantic like 20 inch hogfish. And i let it go. I later found out it was a rare deal. And a good eating fish.

Let me ask, a fisherman at a bait shop told me to hook the shrimp in the head area between that V, but I notice you hook them into the tail or in the body, any reason why? Is the way you do it better?

This looks like so much fun. Been trying to target hogs on some hard bottom in 65' the last couple months and have been striking out every trip so far. Plenty of porgies, grunts, groupers, lanes, and mangs, but the hogs aren't coming yet. Any advice on how long to fish a spot before moving on? I know that waiting to get through the bycatch is part of the game, but how long? Any info would be appreciated, tight lines man.
i heard a good way to eliminate bycatch while fishing for hogfish is to use fiddler crabs or mangrove crabs

Hey Vic just asking were you out there Sunday because I think I saw you I was in a sea pro with a blue stripe along the bottom
You have to bounce it off the bottom. It will puff the sand. Be off the rock a little bit. Key is to puff the sand.

I love hogfish, but i wouldnt call them rare. Really big ones are rare, just like anything. They hang around the fan corral. The trick to catching hogs is to peel the shell off the head of the shrimp. Hogs and tripletail my favorite white fish to eat. Pan fry in butter, deglaze with lime or wine, add capers etc. Keep up the great work!

I know you have a target species in mind when your out there. But dude if only I had a fishing day like that when I went out! Most times I only catch a few fish. Sometimes I target flathead catfish here on the Mississippi River and I keep getting my bait robbed by sheephead. But I'd rather be fishing than working.
