As a Sharks fan, this would only set us back. We really shouldn’t be signing any big time players right now. Grier does need to get Celebrini a few veterans to help him out, but nothing that will destroy our cap situation.

      But you forgetting one bit.
Sharks do have a German owner and Leon Draisaitl s father was coaching 4 years ago a team called Kölner Haie german word for Sharks .So would be a big branding decision and potentially buy another German sports venue.

Well don't know if rumors are true
but Sharks owner being interested on Draisaitl is certainly true.
Draisaitl could easy do 5 million € on advertising alone per year in Germany. So with NHL contract maybe 20-25 million $ a year.
But if he wants to move is a different story. But I think its highly unlikely that both McDavid and Draisaitl sign a long term contract on the same team so something need to change

Now THAT is some wild thinking. Whispers for a year because Draisaitl and the Sharks' owner are both German? Of the 23 players currently on Edmonton's roster, only 12 are signed for next year. Only two are RFA's, the other eleven are UFA's who are signed at close to league minimum. Edmonton currently has only $9 million in cap space. Since Ken Holland has painted them in such a deep corner, they have no cap space to take on additional salary. Any trade of Draisaitl would have to be for prospects or draft capital. In this year's draft, Edmonton has a 2nd, a 5th, two 6th and two 7th round picks. Next year they have a 1st, a 3rd, a 6th and a 7th. If McDavid isn't interested in staying after next year they will have a long rebuild without any draft picks in the next two drafts. Better trade partners would be teams like Montreal, Utah or Columbus- teams with lots of cap space to give Draisaitl what he wants but can send the picks and prospects Edmonton would need to rebuild if keeping Draisaitl isn't possible and McDavid deciding he doesn't want to stay.

    • @bajikimran2304
      @bajikimran2304 23 дня назад

@@davehorseman Although Nurse has a cap hit of $9.25 million a year, he is owed $12 million this coming season and $10 million the year after. I think his contract is unmovable. My prediction: Draisaitl is traded, Hyman won't come close to matching this year's numbers again and in two years when Nugent-Hopkins is 33 years old, McDavid will look around and say "Trade me or lose me for nothing. That's why I think they need to seek a boatload of draft picks. Utah has tons of cap space and 24 picks in the first four rounds of the next three drafts.

I can't speak for them but if it were me, I'd be looking pretty seriously at leaving. This is year 9 of the McDavid era and barring some sort of miracle this year, they're no closer to a cup than they were at the start. Oilers management has proven over and over again that they are not capable of building a winner.
And since neither of them are getting any younger, and a career ending injury could happen anytime, I wouldn't want to be wasting any more time on a team that can't win than I had to. It's not about the money. They're going to get paid wherever they go. It's about winning.

Germans do not work that way. Success means everything. If they win this year, he is going to re-sign for a huge discount. If not he is going to look at teams where he gets first line wingers on his flanks, not the bunch of third liners he has to cope with for his entire time in Edmonton. It's cup or bust.

won't happen and it would not produce a cup. A team is not made up of 2 superstars, look at recent cup winners. What did they have in common? Solid goaltending, Torono has no goaltending, neither does Edmonton so neither team is going to win anytime soon. You think Shesterkin and the Rangers are not winning a cup in the next 3 years? Defense is non existent on Torono as well. Can't build a team with 2 players making 12 millon dollars a piece. There's no cheese to attract the players you need to build a winner.

I think you’re overvaluing Ullmark for sure…..that would be the most embarrassing trade for the Oilers to give up Draisaitl a top 5 player in the NHL and a goalie in Skinner who is coming into his prime (that has another couple years on his contract for a low price of $2.9mil) and Ceci for Ullmark who has only excelled with a platoon system of him and Swayman, a decent but inconsistent winger in Debrusk who can disappear for 15-20 games in a row and a 4/5th Dman in Carlo. Come on you really need to give Draisaitl a bit more respect in your opinions on potential trades.
    Draisaitl >Ulmark, Skinner>Debrusk, Ceci

    • @zachhaist6426

Skinner is an average goalie, Carlo was the bruins second best defenceman this year and on no team is he a 5/6. Debrusk might reach his potential fully with the Oilers. Ullmark is a true number one, you're underrating him. Ceci wouldn't make the bruins team, maybe as their number 8. He in no way is going to San Jose, even with him they would still miss the playoffs the next 2 years. But honestly, I don't think Dry Guy is going anywhere

You think swiss cheese Skinner is even close to Ulmee? Come on bro, put down the peace pipe. Also, Drysaitel without Micdavid is a 30 goal scorer. His one timers from Micd on one of the 9 power plays they get a game would drastically cut his production.

Draisaitl is one of the most overrated players in the NHL. He wouldn't score 30 goals without Micdavid feeding him one timers on their 9 power plays every night. It's sad how people think this guy is that good when his numbers would drastically reduce without MicD. I bet on a team like San Jose he'd get somewhere in the 65 point range maybe less. His skating is not that great so he makes up with a great shot but once again it's MicD creating all the points for him. Hard no for me at his price. He's worth about 8 million a year realistically.
