Too bad that once you put it in the box you can't see the levels. So I did it outside the box. Guess what? The big silver decal was blocking the levels, not that you could hardly see the level in it. You had to stand at just the right angle to possibly see the level on the side. It's really fun carrying a open box of acid around the garage, squatting and bending while trying to keep the tip pinched so you can try to see the level and what needs to be filled more. I got it done but ran out of acid. They are pretty close to even but my nerves are shot trying to do this!!!

Can someone explain why that awful background music was necessary during the video?

@ddenuci Should have also mentioned that I needed to add some water to two of the six cells. Not much, but it was the first time I added water in the three years that I had the battery. Again, according to the documentation, I should have been checking it every 9 months to see if it needed distilled water. Note: When refilling the battery cells, do not use the sulfuric acid that was used initially. Only use distilled water.

Should have told you to wear safety chemical splash goggles and rubber gloves to protect yourself. The acid box can be a little awkward when pouring.
Also, pointless to put the battery in the box before you fill it - you can't see the fill lines. I used a painter's work light and pointed at the backside of the battery to shine it through so that you can see the acid level as it fills - still can be tough to see if your light isn't bright enough. And do the same thing when have to add distilled water up to the level lines. It will make this operation a bit better.
And yes, the music is annoying.

Can we use a car battery or boat battery from autozone?

  • @ddenuci
    @ddenuci 13 лет назад

@ddenuci According to the watchdog documntation: It depends on the size of the battery and the sump pump system that is doing the charging. The chargers on the Basement Watchdog Special and Emergency systems are less powerful trickle chargers, and they will take several days to recharge a battery. You could take the battery to a service station for a quicker charge, or hook the battery up to an automotive charger if you have one.

Thanks for the video. I just bought one and that same box of acid shown was nowhere enough to fill all six cells, it almost did four to the first level. Hard to see in there though. I had to go back and buy more acid because I had none in the remaining two cells.

What was that about safety precautions? Where are your safety gloves? Nice demo other than that

How do you dispose of extra acid if you are using smaller battery?

u can also use a turkey baster from a gallon of distilled water. make sure you check levels every 6 months - i checked my new battery after that time, and the water levels were very low. but i have a wayne battery.

I filled up my sump pump battery two months ago and still shows the yellow charger light. I am afraid that the distilled water was too old, and that could create the problem? Last time it took like three weeks to pop up the green light, but now I am just wondering what could be the problem.

It doesn't show how to see when the acid is up high enough. Do we look thru the top? Do we look thru the side?

That was the most painful background music ever - and you didn't even show how to hook it up..

My Watchdog Battery 24EP6 performed admirably during Hurricane Irene. However, it did die within about 4 hours of continuous pumping. (It is rated for 6 hours). Fortunately, I was able to replace the 24EP6 with a car battery. Now I'm trying to recharge the 24EP6. Anyone know how long it typically takes to recharge under these conditions? The alarm is on continuous - cannot be shut off by pushing the reset button.

What should I do with the extra acid? Should I use it to refill the cells every six months?

No, when topping off the battery in the future you only add distilled water. Never more acid.

Do you really need music in the background? If yes. Then turn it down. I want to hear the speaker not the music
