$900 that ain’t bad for all the features, I/O & integration with Pro Tools AND with DSP. Comparing it to a Twin which is over $1200 roughly. Obviously geared for live players. I was expecting $2k knowing avid. 💀 might pick it up low-key.
@@ChaceBonanno That's true, but I was mostly referring to the interface itself with its I/O and expandabilitly. BUT since we are on the subject of plugins, most PA plugs still supports AAX DSP (which some is included with PT) and so does McDSP (both the most familiar companies) and a few others. In all, that should be plenty if not the same size as UA's collection. (PA shares a lot of plugins with UA) Assuming you're referring to all UA plugs and not just their plugins that support their "Unison" technology only because that would only be 15 plugins in that case. Also you're tied down an interface to able to take advantage of their plugs bc they require the interface to work. Unlike avid's interface(s) you could go native if you're on the go and don't want to use the interface. You could argue Spark, but that's nowhere near the size of what's included with Avid (at the moment) Otherwise the UA plugins are useless and you're not getting the full value of what you paid for if you're not always using their interface.
This actually looks feature rich, and the price seems quite fair. For a project studio this would be a great starting interface with room for expansion. Lets wait for the full reviews to see how this thing sounds
I'm not a fan of pro tools or avid really but I can't deny that this is a fat W for the Avid crew. Packed with features and under a grand. Beautiful, great video Wayne.
Avid must be feeling generous cause there history would have this priced at 2k easy. Glad to see there coming back to there digidesign days with this one.
I have mixed feelings about this Mbox. I hate the design but love the features. I grew up on the Mbox and owned every version. I think people who grew up with the Mbox has grown in experience and moved on to higher end interfaces. And I think younger people don’t have the brand loyalty like people who grew up with the original. With that being said it sounds like a good interface for a beginner or someone upgrading and looking for a good interface under a $1000.
This is packed with features and I think they'll sell a lot of units. I'm not a huge fan of desktop interfaces, but I'm not sure of any other interfaces that have all of these features for this price point. And the Hi-Z FX sends for using guitar pedals.....that's dope.
Routing through the sub is the better alternative because the sub will high-pass the woofers in the monitors when it's engaged so you don't have the sub and the monitors both playing low end at the same time. Ideally you want a sub that has a foot switch bypass so you can deactivate the sub with a pedal when you only want to hear the mains.
The only thing killing avid is their subscription based pro tools app. And depending on just how solid that new dsp power is will make all the difference! The 8 inputs and fx sends and returns are a nice touch. As well the optical and midi. Avid returned fire at uad huh 🤔 this could get interesting.
This is not DSP power the way you are thinking of it. It's not like Carbon or HDX, just DSP for the FX you can use while recording to give your singer some reverb or slap.
The way I’m thinking is in the sense of using plug-ins as you suggested. I’d like to see in comparison to the way uad utilizes it’s dsp power with using a variety of plug ins . And then there’s the latency thing.
I don't like subscriptions either, but you have to think..."Am I making enough money from music to validate 200-300 or whatever yearly to Avid? If you are, it's a tax write off and irritating but hardly a deal breaker.
If that works for you then hat’s off to you. I paid for the software once. I’ll pay for the upgrade even. But there’s too many options to lock in natural resources like that. Like I said, if you like I love it🤞🏾
Great Review!!!! I'm pretty green to music recording but I have to say..Wow! This has way more than I do now but I love it. One thing I think is a really clever feature is the Bluetooth capability because so many of us whip out our phones to record a song, riff, or whatever. Being able to pull it directly from my phone into the unit is very cool!
I can't lie I'm hype. Cause I still have my Mbox 2 and that shit blows out all these interfaces that's out now imo. The preamp solid. I hope avid didn't change nothing too crazy
Was just told you can use disable auto mute in the control software to have both 4 1/4" outputs active at the same time. This will allow you to hook up your subwoofer so you can use the Alt switch to mute it when checking lower extension.
Pro tools usually is always ahead of the curve the m box was created ideally for the home studio artist because they was missing out on that market 😊 . Plus Apollo has the twin so ot makes sense to bring it back because of the Carbon is super expensive
They are so late on the release. I remember when I purchased the first m box. Man they could have been a even bigger trendsetter!!!! Looks good! Sounds good!

Now, let me finish watching your real thoughts on this unit! **Ok, no sub control sucks** "may highly influence my decision" ... love my SUB!
Hi Marcellus! You can definitely control your sub with MBOX Studio. There are a couple ways to do it 1) Use the Alt out and use the User Action keys to map output muting for main and alt to punch the sub in and out. 2) Use the FX Sends (line out) to route to your sub and set up a mute to control it. If you have a digital sub you can route to it via coax or optical S/PDIF as well. Cheers!
Nobody say no but my experience Avid always becomes obsolete when it gets old and at that time you got attached to it and will have to throw it away I all my old Avid hardware I won't risk it Wayne..

Since I am a small personal studio, singer -songwriter guy, I will stick to buying lesser costing interfaces because I know they will become obsolete. I see it as renting them for a time. It is a problem with most electronic devices these days. Computers themselves become obsolete. I suppose I need to look at it all that way, in order to not feel like a victim of Big Businesses trying to rip off, me and others.
I like the co labs with your wife you need to do an hour long music production with her.
They tried so hard to copy the Arturia Audiofuse Studio....and still fell short. 😂 It looks reasonably solid, though. If Arturia hadn't already done this WAAAAAAAY better two years ago, this new box would be cutting edge.
Seems similar to the audiofuse studio
Very much 😂
Looks similar, but it's much more feature-rich than the Audiofuse.
@@PermanentWTF realy wich futures? I mean besides the dsp
@@RemcoJvGrevenbroek besides? MBOX can mix any to any (kinda full matrix), Audiofuse was quite limited in that. EQ on inputs, variZ, unconditional dual BT. Programmable user buttons, programmable expression pedals, a lot of various options here and there.
The Audiofuse is A LOT better.
This unit better be stand alone and record for 900

As a 20+ year Pro Tools user, I’m never buying Avid hardware again. Have 2 x Ultimate and 6 x Studio perpetual versions of Pro Tools and needing to pay between $500-$1000 a year just for update fixes and to be compatible with OS versions is robbery. Enjoy using the software, but Avids business practices are rubbish.
A scroll wheel is all thats missing!
still cant get over the device look, it looks like a kids toy 😆 😆 but its caught my interest however my focusrite 18i8 has loopback and that comes in clutch
MBOX Studio has loopback as well. 🤙🏽
Nah that look like a prototype b
Maybe this is a avid trick and then they switch
Hello
I thought it was something new and revolutionary 😢😢. If you own an Apollo. There’s no logic on dropping 900 on this
Nah that’s not it.
I know looks ain't everything but damn its kinda ugly. I just got an Apollo X4 tho so I'm spoiled. The features are dope tho.
Avid??? I have to disagree ... I've never had any success with anything from Avid...
Avid support is the worst. They don't even bother with driver updates to fix widespread problems. It might work for now but next time you update your windows it could become a brick and they won't care. Be warned.
smh they dropped this after i paid $1800 for an apollo twin x smh
for 900$ I prefer to get UAD ...
Focusrite was the thing that made them protools.. all the rest of it is overrated.. it only has two headphone outs.. if you have multiple people on a podcast you can’t give individual mixes
You have the ability to have separate cue mixes on every output of MBOX Studio, including headphones, speakers and digital outputs. 🤙🏽
Hell no they going to stop supporting it and it’s not even better than the mbox 2 the goat.
I will never buy a avid are protools interface. it's worse than money and just leaving you with junk after five years
Shit looks horrible I had the original xbox back in the days and they had horrible conveters I think it's to late now uad and antelope and other makes better interface and crystal clear converters.
looks like dj toy for 5 years old kid :(
When is this Dropping??
End of Nov. You can preorder today. 🤙🏽
