A semi truck would be completely submerged. Most harbors are as deep as the predicted surge, for a cruise ship! There's a reason that evacuations are being ordered days ahead of the storm's landfall. Help will be unavailable during the storm. "You stay, you die" is what your leaders are saying. Last minute running is not wise. Get out now! Anything lost is replaceable, except for lives.
Other than a few locations like new Orleans if you are a few miles from the coast you don't have to worry about storm surge. I have been in a few and a cat 4 twenty miles from the coast was an adventure, the wind is defining and playing in the water during the eye was fun. You have to build a strong structure,and today's quality is krap,corporate builders to are extremely poor quality.

This man is prepared. It can sometimes be safer to stay if the roads are very full of traffic leaving and no hotel rooms avaliable. They did open emergency shelters in the area for people staying if they need to flee. Hope he and his family will be safe! ❤

Venice's highest elevation is only 10' above sea level. They are predicting at least a 15 ft storm surge and this guy is not likely at the highest elevation in the city. I hope he writes his name and next of kin information somewhere on his body so the authorities can notify the next of kin.
