Eddie was the king of guitar. Eddie did Michael Jackson's solo on the song "Beat it" for free, and re-arranged the song during recording for Quincy Jones. Van Halen also made the Guiness world record for the highest paid band during the 1983 US Festival.
Technically, Eruption is a 2 minute instrumental off the band's debut album. However, for the Eruption solo done during live concerts, the original song is sprinkled throughout a collection of well known and popular riffs and solos from various other songs. If you thought you were listening to one 13 minute long song, I completely understand your confusion. I recommend giving the entire band a listen and use official videos, as the visuals are part of the fun. I recommend Hot For Teacher, and/or Panama.
Not sure what you were expecting. That’s Eddie Van Halen’s live solo piece. If you wanted to hear his legendary playing in the context of a song, there are 12 studio albums worth of material you can find pretty easily online, considering Van Halen (the band) is one of the most-popular and influential rock acts of all-time. I guess I can see your confusion at first, but it should’ve been pretty obvious to you what you were watching after a few minutes, especially after Sammy Hagar (the lead singer) said he was taking a break.
Easy to see how this would confuse if you weren't familiar with Van Halen. This solo is great but it helps to know the recordings before diving into a live medley like this. If you want a solo within the context of a song, I'd suggest Chicago 25 or 6 to 4 live at Tanglewood. Different vibe from VH, but every bit as good.
Thanks for your comment! We appreciate your suggestion of checking out Chicago 25 or 6 to 4 live at Tanglewood. It's great to hear from fans who are familiar with Van Halen's recordings and have an appreciation for the live medley. Thanks again for your comment!
I would recommend Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy Name: Live from Hammersmith 1982; Rime of the Ancient Mariner: Live from Flight 666; Fear of the Dark: Live Rock in Rio 2002.
Hi TG and Vic, greetings from the Netherlands. I enjoyed watching your reaction. Maybe one tip: turn up the volume a bit. It was a bit hard to hear what you were saying. Did you know that Eddie van Halen was born in the Netherlands? I might have an interesting recommendation for you. Would you be interested in listening to some European symphonic metal? Try Nightwish. They are a band from Finland and they’re top notch in this genre. Their Dutch singer, Floor Jansen, has one of the best female voices in metal today. She's a master at conveying emotion through a song and her stage presence is unmistakable. Nightwish is very diverse, none of their songs are alike. Being a metal band, they of course have the heavy tracks, but they also have some epic and melodic songs, other songs have a more celtic feel and they can even sound a bit jazzy. Their music is exceptionally well composed and arranged. The lyrics are very powerful and poetic. Nightwish is best appreciated LIVE. Give the song ‘Storytime’ a try. It was recorded at Wacken 2013, in front of 82 000 people. You might be surprised, like many other Americans who had never heard of them, but are now completely hooked... ruclips.net/video/pvkYwOJZONU/видео.html But be warned… a reaction will probably trigger the Nightwish fans to come knocking…😄
LOOK WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT IF YOU ONLY KNEW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THIS IS NOT A SONG THIS IS ONLY TRICKS ON THE GUITAR THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK LIKE YOU GUYS ARE THE ONLY TWO PEOPLE THAT GET THIS YOU ARE ONLY TWO THAT DON'T GET IT
You two might as well be sleeping through this. Greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that's ever lived and your sitting there like nothing matters.
That was one of the weakest critiques I've ever heard.
He was a classically trained pianist as a child but never learned how to read music. Just a God gives ear for music

Exactly….they are not the first I’ve heard make the mistake of assuming that this is a traditional song.

It was a guitar solo. It wasn’t a song. Have you never been to a concert?
turn your volume up please.

RIP EDDIE VANHALEN
Good Lord, it was a guitar solo. Hello McFly!!
IMHO, arguably the greatest rock guitarist of all time. Others include Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.
