    For me the biggest difference wasn't the raw numbers. I did similar tests in my gq pre and post sound deadening and there was a drop of 5db across the range. However it was the fact I have gotten rid of a million little noises that made the real difference.

    Cool, I was actually on a long drive today wondering what I can do to cut out some of the road noise. But most of the noise was coming in from around the doors and the windows. I've already dynomated all the doors and fenders and rear floor and put foam down too but I've still have to do the roof and backseat to front area. I wonder if now gaskets around the doors and windows will help with my problems. I myself do not like the loudness and love the quietness of my newer daily driver and am determined to try to achieve the same for my FJ60. Nice video.

    • @jakethomasgarner1886
      @jakethomasgarner1886 3 года назад

      I would say definitely sort out your door and window seals. The fact that you’ve already treated the door surfaces would make it easier to hear the results of any imperfections in the door and window seals.

    I would think the roof liner would also decrease high-frequency noise. It seems like the most noise comes from the wheels, so the wheel wells should have extra attention in sound deadening. The fewer knobs you run on your tires, the less noise as well.

  • @Bruceillest101
    @Bruceillest101 2 года назад

    It would actually help a lot if you guys sound proofed the fire wall and the hood of the car and added extra thick carpet foam on the roof and floor. Trust me, it makes a huge difference. The engine of the car vibrates the whole car causing everyone to vibrate. It would also help if you added extra insulation strips down where the drive shafts and transfer cases are located. One thing to keep in mind is the bigger/more the windows the vehicle has, the louder the road noises will be. Thin glass doesn’t to well in reflecting sound. Try tinting your windows. It helps a bit but not much

      @jakethomasgarner1886 2 года назад +1

      Hi Mick. That’s a number of questions😂
      The dash/firewall noise penetration is definitely less. The only engine noise you can hear now is the A/C evaporator drainage hose which lets sound in from the outside and resonates inside the evaporator/ air compartment. Plenty of things that can be done about this but it’s not loud and the 12ht engine is a beautiful sound to me.

    • @jakethomasgarner1886

      This HJ61 was imported to Australia in 2005. The JDM landcruisers always seem to be in excellent condition before they get imported to Australia. It has been in the family since 2007 and hadn’t had a whole lot of love so I was glad to get my hands on it. It looks good from a distance but has a bit of rust in a few places which we will eventually sort out.

    I was told that 3dB change is halved or doubled. Not 10dB.

      Turns out that 3db is a doubling of sound pressure, 10db is roughly what our ears perceive as a doubling of volume

      I'd love to get dad on here sometime, you're right you'd see exactly where we get all our mannerisms too. He doesn't want any part in it though haha 😄 someday I might convince him. Mum.....I reckon she could be easier to persuade

    My understanding of decibels is as follows….
    Every 3 decibel reduction is twice the sound reduction…..
    Right or wrong…??🤷🏼‍♂️

    Those "flat patches" in the back are for the 3rd row seats attachment points, if it were 3rd row option there would have been a recess in the panel.

    80db at 80k's for a sustained period would do hearing damage... fk that

    • @jakethomasgarner1886
      @jakethomasgarner1886 3 года назад +1

      Yeah apparently you can withstand 80db for 8 hours. But even then it would get tiring.
