    Just bought the RX100 V yesterday after my Canon G5X conked out to a degree where it's not worth repairing. I also bought the Sony AG-R2 grip for $13.95, and I urge everyone to do so because otherwise it's way too slippery. I can't wait to break it in when I don't want to lug around my a6500 or my RX10 Mark lll, which I use mostly for zoo shots. Thanks for posting this. Very informative!

    I never noticed before. I've always listened to what you said, rather than the audio quality. That said, this very good sound quality. Keep up the good work, guys. I really look forward to your videos.

    Thanks for the audio upgrade Gordon. Music to my ears! On a geo-tagging note: I take pics with the RX100 but also one (in the same location) with my iPhone. I then import the RX100 pics into the phone over wi-fi and use the Organizer app to copy the location data from the iPhone pic onto the imported RX100 pics. Organizer can paste the same location data onto multiple pics too. (I have no affiliation with Organizer!)

      Hope you approve of the audio upgrade! This is just the start, it will get better still! PS - nice GPS tip!

    One of the suggestions that I have since I really like your new review videos, and also cameralabs.com is that you can mark your video by topics in the description, the same as you do on the website for each article. These markdowns can be really helpful since the video is quite long.

    Gordon, I completely agree that 70mm length is too short. Portraits get good at about 85mm. 70mm is just barely a tele, not far from 50mm neutral.

    I certainly agree that there should be a microphone jack, but i would love it if the jack sound could be saved on both left and right channel, but the left and right mic sound could also be saved in stereo... that would be perfect. also the ability to start and stop recording video remotely.

    Hearing reverb on Gordon's side. Doug's is as great as always.

    Good sound, some echo on Gordon's audio at the start, video focusing on background a bit.
    The detail in the review is mind-boggling. Thanks!

    Awesome audio upgrade Gordon! always a fun show to watch. one question though- what are you using to record your video? you might think about listing the gear used to film the episode in the description at the top. Keep up the awesome videos!! thumbs up :)

    Brilliant gentlemen!!! Superb. Gordon, your audio is much improved. Still not up to Doug's, but better. Doug's setup is the answer, not the shotgun. Audio quality is the single most important aspect in determining whether watchers stay with a long video. Keep up the good work. Coffee on the way.

      Oh and as a side point (i own an a6000) I've attempted twice to use the remote camera app, I gave up on the first attempt after maybe 15 minutes, in the second instance when I was setting up a nice little food still life I accomplished setting up the app and all, but by the time this had happened the ice cream which I was shooting had completely melted. I have not tried it since. Isn't there a qr code method of setting up the wifi that Panasonic uses?

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  8 лет назад

      Yes, Panasonic lets you use a QR code, but also has a touchscreen which makes entering text easy. Plus you don't need to connect the Panasonic to the internet to update it, as it already has the up-to-date software inside, so it's a much easier process.

    Gordon, your Cameralabs link in the show notes goes to your A6500 review, not the RX100V. Excellent review.

    I want to buy this camera for many reasons, but it has the same shortcoming that my a7rii has. That is no quick way to change the autofocus spot. Changing the flexible spot position is a slow tedious process. Meanwhile we're missing shots. A touch screen would fix that.

    The audio sounds great, but on the opening statement by Gordon, I thought I heard just a *tinge* of an echo.

    Okay, so this Sony RX 100V or the Lumix LX10/15 you reviewed? Which is better? I prefer having an EVF, but the Lumix seems like a lovely camera as well. In other words, which would you personally buy or did you buy in the end? What do you carry as an every day camera? I need a carry everywhere compact.Right now I use a Ricoh GR, but it isn't a good Vlogging camera, which is something I'd like to get into as well. Also, going back to smaller sensors is kind of a bummer having used APS-C and full frame, so I want to get the best compact for everyday use like my iPhone which isn't so hot for larger picture printing.

      Hi Elaine, all these 1in cameras are great for general use - it's when you need to specialise for some reason that one tends to stand out over others. But it depends what that specialisation is. I've gone into lots of detail in my RX100 V review at cameralabs if you'd like to check it out, in particular the verdict page: www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Sony_Cyber-shot_RX100_V/verdict.shtml

    • @gaprofitt
      @gaprofitt 7 лет назад +1

      Hi Elaine, both great cameras, I highly doubt the autofocus on the LX10 is as good as the phase detection on the Sony.. However I've heard the LX10 is no slouch..

    • @Lainer1
      @Lainer1 7 лет назад

      Thanks, Gordon and Greg. I've used the Sony NEX and A6000 line extensively and things that I didn't like about it are the ARW files VS DNG, the colors are sometimes a tad off and the missed AF shots. This little Sony is not nearly as good as the NEX or A6000 series, but it is smaller, has a viewfinder (meh) and ticks a lot of boxes. Quite honestly. I prefer the Fuji X series and Ricoh GR, but due to no articulating screen or zoom on the Ricoh and the X-T10 isn't a pocketable camera, I needed something to fill the void for zoom, Vlogging and general all around use. I really wish Fuji or Ricoh would come out with a slamming APS-C sensor fast zoom pocket camera. The X70 is fixed lens, but it is close with the articulating screen. I wondered about the LX10, tried and sent back the LX100 (no articulating screen, was too big for pocket). Nikon DL is coming out, but it isn't as nice as the Sony in specs in comparison. Right now my favorite pocket camera is that Ricoh GR. Still trying out the RX100 V though. We shall see.

    Great reviews guys, the Nikon DL 18-50 is the small camera I've been waiting for, there is a rumour it will be ready in January. I want a small camera that can go on a smaller gimbal like the Crane-M but have a wider angle lens for interior work. The DL 18-50 seems unique in its lens choice, plus it'll have Nikon's menu system that I really like for still photography.

    I suppose Sony is deliberately withholding features in each version of the RX100.
    Is the full frame RX1 "pocketable"?

    Gordon, The thoroughness of your reviews is excellent and I appreciate your critiques. But dare I suggest some of these videos are too long? Fine with WiFi but not good if you for viewing via data on phone. Might it be an idea to have two versions. One that is shorter with the key facts and less chat?

    hahaha nice yea the audio was trash. One thing, please don't switch between clean audio when it cuts to dougs camera... keep the same audio from Gordon's feed cuz I always get distracted when it cuts to dougs cameras and gordon out of nowhere sounds like god and when it cuts back to gordons cam it sounds like GAHBAGE lol. Great video otherwise guys overall audio sounded great this episode!

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  8 лет назад +2

      I'm working on improving the audio even more, and also the video too. our goal is to have both sides looking and sounding as similar as possible, but it is a challenge when we're continents apart in different rooms with different gear!

      Sure did. You deserve to have great audio, just like Dougs. You two fellas are, in my opinion, by far the best photo and camera related gear reviewers on RUclips and need quality audio to match the content.

    Even at half the price I would struggle to motivate a purchase. Any M4/3 camera will produce significantly better image quality. And they are not that much bigger if you choose a small model. It's still an impressive camera but nothing matters but what comes out on that memory card and the 1" sensor is constructed to beat a phone and other very small sensor cameras. And it does, but nothing else really.

    • @jba3005
      @jba3005 7 лет назад +1

      There is almost no difference with a small m4/3 and the sony is pocket size. An f2.8 m4/3 lens is much larger and heavier

    • @frankfeng2701
      @frankfeng2701 6 лет назад

      Just do the math. This lens is almost equivalent to a 16-50 f/3.5-5.6 kit lens that Sony sells on their APS-C bodies or a 12-35 f/2.8-4 M43 lens. I don't recall any ILCE with these lenses attached can still be as small as the RX100V.

    Sorry I don't like this kind of review, prefer Gordon to do a straight review, as he use to do, going back and forwards with Doug makes it so disjointed, and it makes the review far TOO long . this is my Personal opinion, so, so ,sorry you do it this way, so now I don't watch your reviews.
