Agreed 100%. The software is nearly complete and stable from internal testing, but some updates and external beta testing will be needed to ensure quality of user experience. Thanks for subscribing
I've subscribed to the kickstarter. I do hope you're still open for requests so here goes: - Robust housing that can take a beating. If it's build premium I'll pay premium. - High quality encoders and button including the caps that feel premium and have some resistance. - It would be so nice if it had a little screen. It would do this type of controller so much more good.
endless rotary encoders with led lights to show values is the way forward for hardware synths, id say it should be even for pedals. I'm hoping that this device is sturdy and well made, would prefer full metal construction, would be happy to pay a higher price for a high-end version
The youtube AI knows me far too well. I'm a live performer who dives in each time with full impros and this really excites me. Subscribed to channel and mailing list. You've created something very special here
This looks like a worth successor to Monome Arc. It would be pretty excellent if this could speak serialosc. Bravo on an excellent concept, you have my $1.
Cool idea. I've been building a step sequencer using a Novation Launch Control XL. It works great, but there is no way to recall happy accidents. Something like this would be way better.
Looks extremely interesting. I’ve lost count of how many times doodling around on a synth has made interesting moments, only to loose the moment with further tweaks…!
BEAUTIFUL DESIGN AND KNOBS, the case would even more beautiful in brushed aluminum like the knobs, please make tham push encoders so to use as mute/unmute , and consider to put a small screen and sysex capabilities for vintage synths….this implementation would enlarge the number of possible customers exponentially
I have a 16 knob encoder that I put in the closet a couple of years ago. Now with some Ableton updates, I can think about pulling it out and adding it to the setup.
Awesome controller. Seems like an upgrade to Midi Fighter Twister. Do the knobs have a push event? And how did you solve the "I forgot what this knob does-problem? eespecially having all those banks of knob configurations.
Thanks! No push-switch on the knobs since push-switch knobs have a loose and "scratchy" feel to them when turning (I've tried many models including the ones on the Twister and they all have the same problem). We decided on making them touch sensitive to bring some of the functionality of push-switches while keeping the premium feel of non-push switch knobs. Color coding could help with associating knob functionality. I am working on the desktop app that will allow you to customize individual ring colors.
Thanks. Yes of course there won't be stickers for labels. The unit shown in the video is just an early prototype. It's understandable that you are skeptical about us being a new company. If it's any reassurance, I do have over 10 years of professional experience in engineering. This is ultimately a passion project and I will ensure all delivered units will be exactly the same quality as the one I will personally use myself :)
About time someone made MFT mkii 😜 Nice looking design. However, just like with the MFT, I wish there was a small screen which gives you a label of the control when you touch the knob or at least space between the knobs for physical labels.
8x8 would be outrageously awesome, but likely very expensive. I costed out building a 96 knob infinite rotator midi controller with led indicators based on teensy boards. Just the knobs pushed the design into the "my wife would kill me" zone. Ideally, the software in this unit should allow switching between sets. For example, moving from one instrument in the DAW to another could trigger a set. I am really hoping this unit comes in at a decent price point. The build quality looks good. However, the weight and resistance of the knobs will be essential. I'm happy to pay for a premium build! I do not want another "Theory board" debacle...but this super cool. Watching closely.
Can it be controlled by a sequencer via MIDI? It's nice to try out different synth settings when fiddling around and creating single loops. But when playing them back in "song mode", I must recall these settings whenever the corresponding loop pops up. I will NOT run to the timepod to press a button in time with that loop on the sequencer.
Great question. Yes, I am working on the ability for Timepod to trigger snapshot recalls and morphing via external MIDI. It will be implemented by launch :)
Looks really interesting. Wondering how it might work virtual DJ? Might be fun having capacitive button effect triggering along with adjusting the parameters.
Yep, immediately makes it unusable for most tasks outside of the box, which is a shame as this looks fantastic. Maybe we should stop calling controllers without MIDI connectivity MIDI controllers.
The snapshotting is cool! But, if it's not needed for a certain project can those buttons be repurposed to just send MIDI? And to receive MIDI to light their LEDs? Also, is every LED in the LED rings addressable via MIDI CC/Sysex? Could we show loop brace style displays and similar with a bit of programming in Max For Live etc?
Yes we do plan on providing an option per bank to turn the snapshot buttons into programmable buttons instead. Advanced implementation for controlling LEDs will be in a future firmware update, but definitely on the roadmap; the exact implementation details are not fleshed out yet and will be based on community feedback. Thanks for your interest
@@modern_midi Great! I'd definitely be sold with those two things added. A replacement for a MIDI Fighter Twister with bonus features. Congrats on the Kickstarter. Look forward to seeing how it develops and to grabbing one in the future. Thanks!
Currently the software is designed to communicate using standard MIDI which is 7 bits. There is some complication due to the memory used for storing snapshots but the hardware itself is capable of 10-bit precision (0-1023 values). We will need to figure out the best way to support higher bit precisions in a future firmware update. Re: relative midi control, that could be supported in a future firmware update as well.
@@modern_midi correction i meant "FAKE relative" mode with Resolume. Looking to replace another midi controller, but this is a make or break feature for myself. Hoping that will happen.
I’ll watch with interest. Can’t sign up as the site won’t recognise an international postal code which is rather 1998! I’m guessing a lot of customers will be outside the US
Sorry about the confusion--the site was set up for US so the reservation form only recognizes US postal codes. However, the Kickstarter will be international and it sounds like you're on the mailing list so you will be notified. Thanks for your interest.
I’m really thinking this could be cool in a live dawless setup. You could set up each “snapshot” to be your intro, verse, drop, etc. but am I correct that there is only 8 possible presets/snapshots? Or are there pages of snapshots you can scroll through, enabling you to basically plan out an entire live set that way?
If you just need knobs only, the Twister is a great controller for that. However, one thing that bugs me about most knob controllers is that they use standard encoders with 128 CPM, meaning it requires a full revolution of the knob to go from 0 to 127, which 1) is ergonomically suboptimal and 2) doesn't match the movement on the LED rings. We use endless analog pots on Timepod which are capable of very high resolution and is configured by default to cover the full MIDI CC value range in an 80% turn.
Sorry, one more question - in each bank of the 16 parameters, can each parameter be set to be sent to a different midi channel if need be? What's the overall flexibility in regards to midi channel assignment? Thx
I'm still working on the desktop app for customizing the controller. I will add to my notes to allow customization of MIDI channels per parameter. Thanks for your feedback :)
There are 8 banks of 16 CCs, each bank can save up to 8 snapshots. To switch banks, you just hold the CONFIG button and press one of the snapshot buttons.
Hi. Congrats on making something new and interesting! Couple of questions… 1) you sound British, so will the stated dollar price include VAT for UK orders? 2) is it midi 2.0 compliant so that changes made in a DAW will be reflected on the controller? 3) any plans to create DAW specific scripts like for Bitwig? Cheers, Phil
Hi, the narrator in the video is British but I am not haha. Currently I cannot make a statement on whether the price tag will include VAT, as I am focusing on the US market for now. Yes changes in the DAW will reflect on the controller given the DAW is configured to send MIDI sync events to the controller.
