Falcon Heavy Test Flight

- Following its first test launch, Falcon Heavy is now the most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two. With the ability to lift into orbit nearly 64 metric tons (141,000 lb)---a mass greater than a 737 jetliner loaded with passengers, crew, luggage and fuel--Falcon Heavy can lift more than twice the payload of the next closest operational vehicle, the Delta IV Heavy, at one-third the cost. Falcon Heavy draws upon the proven heritage and reliability of Falcon 9.
Its first stage is composed of three Falcon 9 nine-engine cores whose 27 Merlin engines together generate more than 5 million pounds of thrust at liftoff, equal to approximately eighteen 747 aircraft. Only the Saturn V moon rocket, last flown in 1973, delivered more payload to orbit. Falcon Heavy was designed from the outset to carry humans into space and restores the possibility of flying missions with crew to the Moon or Mars.

My boss fired me the day I returned from Florida to witness this event. Totally worth it.
Not a small job, it was my career for 20 years. They were going to fire me anyway since they were purging everyone of a certain age for the past 2 years. They couldn't fire me for anything else, so they waited until I took a PTO (which was approved) then fabricated an HR case against me. Even HR was uncomfortable with the circumstances, but the boss is the boss. Two weeks after they fired me, they fired the boss who fired me.
They even tried to prevent me from collecting unemployment by telling the NJUI office I was fired for "misconduct". Unfortunately for them, I had been collecting detailed evidence of what was going on which NJUI believed. I got my UI and my employer got in trouble. If they had given me a fair severance, they would have avoided all this. Instead, they may get in more trouble soon.
Another wrinkle is that this employer uses something called "The Work Number" by Equifax. This is a system where they transfer your entire HR file to Equifax so that it follows you everywhere. Look it up, it is barely legal.
I would divulge the name of the company, but it is a very large and litigious one that is protective of their reputation.
Nope, it was a hostile firing. Companies do this to save money. In addition, my boss was doing unethical stuff (which is why they wanted me out since I wouldn't cooperate).
Luckily, my profession is in high demand and I am good on money. I am just taking this year off, do some options trading for spending money, enjoy some travelling without getting the boss's permission.
Not surprisingly, my former employer is now in trouble for an botched audit on a well known software company.
Thanks.
Ego Equus Wish you all the best of the future; regardless, it would have been amazing to have witnessed the event!
Why would they fire you if Trump promised beautiful tax cuts for businesses and Making America Great Again?

Small nitpick, but vehicle supersonic != Max-Q, these two events are separate but they happen in pretty rapid succession.
Supersonic is just breaking the sound barrier while maximum aerodynamic pressure is the point at which the aerodynamic loads on the rocket are highest (which happens right after reaching supersonic).
This happens because these loads are a function of speed which increases over time and air density which decreases over time (since the rocket goes up through the atmosphere). This makes intuitive sense, since at liftoff these forces start at zero (since initial velocity is zero) and end up at zero (when the rocket reaches the vacuum of space).
And for the icing on the cake: this is also a very neat application of the intermediate value theorem, more precisely Rolle's theorem, which is an application of IVT on the derivative over a segment where the function has the same value at both ends; this tells us that the derivative must cancel out at some point, reaching a global extremum (global because the set of extrema is finite) which happens to be a global maximum (because the norm of the force is positive).
So that's nice.

the Propulsive landings for the SpaceX rockets, as well as their more flexible design allows for a level of re-usability and cost mitigation that Nasa simply can't match.

watching those boosters land @30:00 is arguably the most impressive thing i have ever seen in my life, when i first watched this video i had no idea that they were going to land the boosters like this and i thought they were going to land in the ocean like NASA always did so when it came to the moment where the 16 storey tall boosters suddenly sprouted its legs from nowhere and then the way they gracefully landed together perfectly absolutely blew my mind
I didn't expect that either. I read a comment on here just before they landed, stating the reuse of the Falcon boosters. I didn't realize they went to such lengths. 4 years later and this is still 1 of the most amazing moments in human history
So true my friend.
True
Was the coolest thing I've ever seen in person.
It's made all the other rockets ive seen launch, since this one, miniscule in comparison.
I miss the rumble against my chest as that behemoth took off.
I’m watching this as I do a falcon heavy recreation and kerbel space program lol! Go falcon heavy
Which human?
Exactly 6 years ago, damn time flies
Humans are truly amazing. We went from only inventing missiles and rocket technology 80 years ago and now we're sending big bottle shaped machines into space travelling at hypersonic speeds.
I from Russia, but i look in comments, and see what this amazing event bring's together people's from different countries.
When i look to this, like that, which unite, it inspires me.
Артур Перевизник if my country and your country weren't enemies, we could have done so much more in space and carried humanity so much farther
Where are you from? We are not enemies, and this is a greate achievement. THIS is what humanity should do. Imagine that all military budgets will go to space exploration, where would we have been already?
Та хуле вы на английском?
American here... I feel the same!
Yeah? I'm glad....I assumed all the Russian comments were talking shit lol
1969: Sends humans to moon
2018: *Sends own car into space*
2019: donates one million trees
2050: Goes to sun
@@partylizard8343 we already did it
@@user-wo5yu9gd1d is there a punchline?
2060: everyone wakes up to this all being faked. 1 thruster to land upright, DA FUCK?
I'm still here 5 years later 😍👏❤
Dittos 😍
I'll be here for it as long as its here to be here for. 👍
Everytime I hear them go “and OFF, GOES FALCON HEAVY” it just gives me such chills
Finally somthing thats trending #1 and reasonable.
*Finally.*
Amen to that man
Can you believe Kylie Jenners baby video was number one a few days ago, thankfully this vid took over
hysterics family friend v:
1970: I bet in 2018 we will have flying cars.
2018: We have a car in space on its way to Martian orbit.
That is enough for me. Thanks Elon and thanks SpaceX team for bringing the future to us. That was amazing thing that all of you have accomplished.
Now it isn't a joke.
The future is a useless electric car orbiting mars?
I'll never get tired of watching those side boosters landing side by side 🤘
IMAGINE WHEN STARSHIP BOOSTER TRIES TO MAKE HIS FIRST MECHAZILLA AND GETS CAPTURED BY THE CHOPSTICKS
Fun fact:
SpaceX has launched more cars to space, than Blue Origin launched satellites.
more cars than blue origin has gotten to orbit
More cars then they can get in anyway
Hahahaha lol 😂
fun fact: learn syntax
@@OldestHouse im really sorry i didnt meet your 'youtube rhetorical demands'.
Three years ago today, my life changed forever. Y'all gave my life direction and the drive to drag myself out of homelessness and start down the path of completing the education I walked away from years prior. One day, I promise I'll give my all to pay you back for saving my life. Thank you, SpaceX.
You go man!
Best of luck! You got this!
Elon is an amazing guy. He puts his money into adventuring far from this planet, yet he still is helping fix problems here on earth.
Is this a joke?
@Roger Mcdoodle chill man
