I find this hilarious because I had the opposite problem. I was prescribed ADHD meds starting in 3rd grade and by high school I hated them. I realized they were inhibiting my ability to naturally control my outbursts and would refuse to take them while my parents insisted I continue. they counted my pills, so I started taking a pill and putting it elsewhere. I went to college, and boy do college students want ADHD meds so I made a little money off of 2 years of stored meds and an active prescription.
My roommate has been trying for years to get off there meds & the doctors refuse to help them get off it. I find it so crazy that if you want off they keep you on & if you want on they try to take you off... Like WTF
But also the reason my adhd “got worse” on meds is that I was undiagnosed autistic at the time and my autism symptoms were getting more prominent. That’s definitely something to look into if they are overmedicating you.
usually for kids they go the medication route first because it's hard to get adhd kids to actually understand and get the benefits from talk therapy. most of that information flies over their head whether they're medicated or not because at its core adhd is a developmental disorder. generally the treatment plan for children is to try and support them in forming good friendships and getting through school without much trouble before attempting to address psychological aspects of their condition in adulthood. of course, everyone's adhd journey is different but this is just what i've personally experienced and seen
Not everyone on meds need therapy, it depends on the person. I have no use for a therapist, I just need reasonable adjustments in work environments. The meds aren't a fix-all but they improved my life so drastically that therapy would be pointless
I got diagnosed and my mom didn't want me on meds so i had to deal with the dysregulation problems until i was old enough to advocate for myself to have them, and now there's something like 50 different medications for ADHD besides just Adderall and Ritalin. Im on a hunt to find the pill thats not only affordable but helps regulate my emotions and deals with the depression and anxiety i developed from growing up in a world that is not built for someone like me, without making me feel sick (Wellbutrin and Adderall made me dizzy when i tried them)
idk if there's a flag but there is a symbol (it looks kinda like the autism infinity symbol but instead its a butterfly) and there is a disability pride flag which covers all disabilities including adhd
@@annapayne7459No, ADHD is a disability. It affects your ability to perform day-to-day tasks and can come with a whole host of symptoms and issues. It's not a "special perk", it's not a "UwU I'm so quirky" little condition, it genuinely impacts one's life, most often negatively. You wouldn't need medication to manage a "special perk". It's not a perk.
I was late diagnosed and only got them at 39 years of age and they are the solution to so many of my problems. I forgot to take them yesterday morning and was starting to get really off at work, not being able to do things, getting confused and without energy, luckily i had some in my backpack or it would have been so bad. I literally lost jobs bcs I could not concentrate and I beat myself up over it. I also take them when I do not have work, bcs I can not get anything done without them. I want to and I try, but I can not. I am glad the meds are working for me, life would have been defenitely easier if I had them sooner.
I was diagnosed when I was nearly 30. Taking them in the evening so that I can focus on getting to bed on time and have a not-mushy brain when I wake up has been a life saver. Certainly a job saver.
I had to go on a JOURNEY to find adhd meds that work worth my heart issues man. I was off them for years bc of it but I just have pretty severe adhd so I need the meds. However ADDERALL IS AWFUL. I HATE adderall with a passion!! I am so serious!! I had an eating disorder when I was in elementary and middle school and MAN did those meds make it worse. You know what fucks your relationship with food? Being on adderall in fourth grade and thinking it was just the way it was to have no appetite until The weekend hit. It also made my issues worse even back then, like it helped in some ways but ughhhhhhhhh I hate adderall they need to stop giving appetite suppressant medication to children without first considering the way not being able to notice hunger cues from a young age is going to affect them!!! Christ
I got a hand tremor from an anti-depressant, so when I got diagnosed with ADHD (as an adult) I requested a non-stimulant. No uppers for me, please. I don't need the shakes again.
Pretty much the opposite of me. Diagnosed at like 4yo with ADHD was on meds only for school until 8th grade and took myself off them because i started reacting badly to them.(This was shortly after bring weaned off epilepsy meds so that may have been why they started reacting poorly) Told the doctor prescribed me Adderall and never touched the stuff ... I hated pills for the next almost decade and now take pill form of hrt.
Yea as a kid, it wasnt so bad that I needed meds, so I learned how to manage it eventually on my own and develop coping mechanisms. But I still do know a kid who has ADHD meds, and even with those, he struggles a LOT. And he is quite attached to me because I experienced everything he is currently experiencing, only I've had 8 more years of time with it. Ive been able to grow and mature and learn how to handle my ADHD, even if I need meds now. But kids NEED to learn how to handle it. They can't just rely on meds to fix everything because medication is not a cure. It's a tool that makes dealing with all the bad stuff a lot easier.

When i graduated and basically dropped out of film school i weaned myself off and have been off and on with them. But i never learned any real coping skills to deal with my audiHD.
