Today on modern Builds I'm making a platform bad out of ONLY 3/4" pine plywood. The bed is on a floating platform and the nightstands are incorporated into the frame for a really sleek, minimalist look. This is a queen size bed and the dimensions will be available in the written article that will be up later tonight. I used the pocket hole jig a lot, but it made this project SO much easier. I've never used pocket-hole joinery, but I can see where it would come in handy over other forms of jointery. Excellent build.

This is great. I'm glad you spoke highly of pocket holes. Why make things difficult. And that you use typical household tools! Brilliant. I may modify with cutting some vent strips in the ply for our mattress. And use some leftover 3x3 poplar pieces for the legs. So so well done. Nice work love your channel it's an inspiring one for sure. Others get too complicated or use materials that up the price point. Which we don't need because most of our furniture is pine. Poplar. Or ply. Fist bump.

I love this design. I have been looking at making a bed frame recently (read: the last 4 months) and this hits a lot of my criteria. My only adjustment would be to radius those corners at the foot of the bed because they look like serious ankle biters with that 90deg angle.
I love simple builds like this. Takes less time and effort for people like me who are new to woodworking and don't have a lot of time to do projects.

The styrofoam is a decent idea if you're just starting and don't have a workshop. But one of the first things you should build is some folding saw horses, and make a quick frame out of some 2x4 (I rip them in half on the table saw), and make a frame that sits on the saw horses and supports the plywood. Better on the back, quicker, and more accurate cuts, since you're not crawling around on your knees mid cut.

Awesome looking bed Mike! The only thing you might want to look at changing is the legs. I made multiple platform beds for my friends in college and when you get into some 'extra curricular activities' on the bed, the legs usually aren't that stable. Keep up the good work!

Design is awesome man! Only thing I would change is the plywood under the bed. Using slats is better for the bed. If it doesn't breath, it will get mold in just a few months. Other than that it's awesome
Abel Pulido could also probably drill some holes if you want to keep the plywood sheets!
Just cut the plywood into slats. It'd be a few minutes with the table saw.
Every time you think “mold”’is going to “happen” remember that it is a moisture problem and ask yourself, “ where is the moisture coming from? There is literally zero chance for mold!!!!
Sweat, spilling, laying/sitting after a shower, kid accidents, etc, etc, etc.
Billy Joe DeVries, not everyone who builds a bed from his plans are going to use a memory foam bed. So people need to know they'll have to make adjustments depending on the mattress they use.

Nice job. My only tweak would be to put a radius on the front edges of the platform. Believe me, your shins will thank you. Cheers.
I like the design aesthetic of the raw plywood and the simplicity of the build. I will tell you from personal experience that the horizontal apron/frame around the bed will be a real shin-killer. Maybe minimize the overhang in the next version?

Looks great. I’ve always loved these minimalist designs. We’ve been looking at adjustable bases and it seems like this would work for that; just leave center open and make longer legs, I think?

I love that project. I turned out so good and the design is awesome. But when you build a bed it’s important that the mattress can “breathe” e.g. there should be some holes where the mattress lays.
