In the original Half Life, the guards would say 'Catch me later, I'll buy you a beer' as a random voice line. Barney's first line to Gordon in Half Life 2 is 'Now, about that beer I owe ya!' as a reference to that. Therefore it's generally assumed they were drinking buddies before the incident.
Forgot about that line, nice!
Isn't there a line about freeman and calhoun racing through the vents when kleiner locked himself out of his lab.

10:55 you didn't turn around to see Freeman pass by. You also missed the security camera footage of him in the camera room. Also a hilarious interaction with a guard through the cameras.
Niceee, you actually played this, pleasant surprise! Unlike Azure Sheep they invited original voice actors for the scientists and guards for the BS remake. Almost every voice lines are unique. Basically the same crap load of audio files/quotes similar to BM's first chapters. Bunch of new models and textures too ofc. You missed the whole surveillance room bit where you could see one 2 characters of the HL Universe. Honestly, with this mod the facility starts to become more believable.

Also small fact. The original blue shift was supposed to have a flashlight weapon but due to limitations it went unused. Would've been great to see it in the remake.

33:15 Let me tell you, working Security at most places pretty much means you are expected to be a guard, a maintenance worker, a messenger, and more often than not; a janitor... And pretty much nobody respects you. Most People just look at you as a dumb thug who couldn't cut it as a 'real cop", or a glorified bouncer, and will often prank you into 'looking for missing keys/mobile phones" they 'lost" in the toilet bin or a skip or in a mind numbingly large car park; at night.. 'Oh never mind, it was in my coat pocket.. tee hee."
So, quite an accurate portrayal of how a security officer is treated in this game..
56:30 No, Gordon woke up pretty quickly and others (like Kleiner and Vance who only just were having a conversation about the fact they caused resonance cascade when he returned) didn't seem to had been knocked out at all. There was no large time gap before the facility became flooded (Xen forces were being teleported very quickly), so for Barney there likely wasn't as well, maybe a few hours in the elevator (but not too many).
I’m pretty sure Barney was out of commission for 2 hours or so.
I suspect the alarms going off in the lobby is meant to coincide with Gordon hitting the panic button in the Sector C lobby which you can do in Black Mesa to annoy the guard, don't recall whether or not you did this in your playthrough, but it's a thing

Fellow Brit Half Life gamer here.
Just found your channel.
This “mod for a mod” essentially is an interesting release. There’s been a separate project by a group called Tripmine Studios attempting to remake Blue Shift and the other expansion pack of Half Life, the fan favourite Opposing Force, as Guard Duty and Operation Black Mesa respectively. It’s been in the works for over a decade, been following it for about that long too, and as far as I’m aware it’s nowhere near close to being completed. The last update from the devs was 2022.
So I’m glad this exists, even if it’s not a top down built from the ground up reimagining of Blue Shift, it’s pretty much just all the Black Mesa assets.
I do wish they’d done Opposing Force first though. It’s the fan favourite of the OG HL expansions and Blue Shift by comparison just feels very average and Baby’s First Half Life. The Blue Shift expansion was also the shortest Half Life campaign too. But this remake does have that Black Mesa gloss to bring it to life.
The Tram the G Man is riding is the one that just dropped Gordon off at Sector C.
It's crazy just how good the source engine still looks. I know it's been updated over the years, but for a game engine that was originally released almost 20 years ago(!), I think it's held up quite well.
I fell off my bed when you where playing blue shift. Unexpected but great! I'd like a different game after resident evil 4. Like SCP containment breach or Amnesia

At 34:02 the guard will ask you to hand him the screwdriver. If you want to be a bastard you can put it in the trash and he comments on it. There's also a ton of extra details and funny moments you missed so if you want to check it out I'd recommend Sexy Nutella on RUclips

Those lines are by Mike Hillard, who’s been the Scientist VA for Black Mesa, so they can’t possibly be lines from Blue Shift. Plus if these were lines pulled as audio from that game, it’d sound noticeably lower quality in that fuzzy old game voice acting way. In a word it’s freshly recorded dialogue.
Harry S Robins did the Scientist voices for all of Valve’s Half Life titles, and Dr Kleiner in HL2

I don't livestream these playthroughs. These are recorded offline strictly for RUclips with a couple of exceptions (LIS1 and Elden Ring). I generally don't like livestreamed-playthroughs later uploaded to YT. For YT I prefer 100% focus on the game I'm playing.
Hahah that'd be funny if it was actually days for the other two! Definitely just a few hours at most, but that'd be funny if the vacation scientist was doing chest compress on the hombre guard for days lol. Also I get that you keep making comparisons to Azure Sheep, but it is important to remember that the original Azure Sheep was just a fan mod, while the original Blue Shift was official

Developers makes all the scientists to be rude to Barney to increase contrast when shit hits the fan, the scientists changed to very polite. It says alot about society.
I never did play these either. Good to see them from the Fluffy One!
BTW, we yanks pronounce it Cal-Hoon.
All of these voice lines are new and are voiced by the same voice actors that voiced the black mesa character

Wouldn't want security personnel to have incompatible sidearms in the same calibre. There are already guards issued with revolvers as alternative to glocks.
