Incredibly beautiful winter landscape. Love the light reflections in the night snow, like tiny diamonds. Thanks for taking this armchair traveler along!
Ah, the deep cold. When camping, it relentlessly pursues you. You are a better man than I, NX, I stay indoors when it gets that cold! Thanks for another great post. Cheers.
My husband & I are visiting our son & daughter in law next month in Sweden. We are very much looking forward to seeing the beautiful countryside. Next time, we are planning a visit closer to Christmas .
The most beautiful gorgeous nature scenes I have ever seen. A tropical island has NOTHING on this beauty. Looks like a dream. I am sure you were very cold though. But very prepared.
All I can say is, "wow!", Jarl. That shot of the snowy landscape in the long shadows of the trees, under the pink sky was just beautiful! Thanks for sharing and taking us to Sweden.
What a wonderful and beautiful place. Over 45 years ago my mother visited Norway, and brought us back those beautiful Norwegian ski sweaters. For many years we wore them cross country skiing in Ontario. Yours sure brought back memories.
Greetings from Sierra Vista Arizona! Too funny! I saw the "elephant" too. Before the elephant I was looking for "snow birds" among the trees and saw several! LOL 😅
That really did look like and elephant! The beauty and the stillness definitely calm the soul. Your photography was excellent. However, you looked cold from the beginning to the end of this video. Stay warm!
What a place, in brilliant conditions mate, like how you utilise your skis🎿, ice axe⛏️, and snow pegs altogether to get the tent pitched, another cracking winter camp mate👌, atb Mick 👍
This is, for me, until now, the most beautiful of your winter-videos. Branches bowing under the frozen snow, bushes that take strange forms... And the blue cloudless sky, the sunlight on the virgin snow create gorgeous sceneries. That blue hour : really magic.... We can "feel" the cold, "hear" the silence... Extraordinary winter-wonderland. Once more, you did it, Jarl ! You faced the extreme cold, but the compensation given to you by nature was sooooooo enormous beautiful ! Thanks for sharing it ! (Your nordic pull-over suits you very well !!)
I can absolutely relate to all the upsides and downs. Thank you for bringing this video to us and for being able to enjoy the journey along the way. As someone who was truly into hiking, adventures, and the outdoors, I somehow lost this by living in the city. Thank you for creating this video and sharing it with us. All the best and wish you good luck on your journeys.
I find that the most difficult thing in winter camping is to be immobile when its pretty cold . Even with warm clothes , a human body needs to moove to keep warm . I do the same type of winter camping than you except for one thing , I make a fire for a couple of hours before going to bed around 7 or 7h30 . Cutting wood keep's me warm and I sit near the fire for a while . But I camp in a boreal forest , which is not your case , most of the time you are in a alpine location . I admire you to be able to do your stuff without a fire , it's not easy . From a nordic man to another , thank you for this beautiful video !
👋Hello Norwegian Xplorer! It's good to see you again! Another awesome video once again & it's so good to see the snow & to hear all the wonderful sounds. The landscape is always amazing & the night images are always lovely too. The forest, the trees & the night sky. Just magic!! Your dinner sounded very tasty! You'd require many more calories in such conditions, after a long day. Today is a very special day for me, but here i am, still watching Norwegian Xplorer! lol Tusen takk for sharing & i look forward to your next adventure.
Backtracking now on some videos. What incredible scenery. You do a great job capturing it. But, I really don’t know how you camp in the winter like that!! 😂
Excellent and beautiful winter trip. It looked (and felt) sparkly cold 🥶 out in the Swedish winter backcountry. I can tell that it’s cold 🥶 when the -27°C Coleman Extreme winter gas is taking its time to boil the water! Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely wild, thanks for enduring it for us all to witness (from our warm homes). It's the positivity that helps in all aspects of life. Great to see you elated, good luck 😍
So beautiful. I did this in Minnesota as a young person on the border with Canada. I’ve become soft after too many years in Texas. I know the feeling of the brain wandering to hello elephant, and making a tent pad in the best first light area, or finding a spot with refuge from the wind. Sometimes even a 4Season bag doesn’t offer quite enough warmth, but your setup is amazing compared to mine decades ago.
Nydelig film❤ ikkje vanskelig å sjå at der var kaldt, med alle tusen «diamanter» som glitra på telt og i snøen. Det var nok bra du hadde med ekstra varmt tøy❄️❄️❤️
Your videos are awe inspiring and you are truly an inspiration to watch. You deserve many more subs as your videos are a joy to watch. I hope Hilleberg give you some sort of sponsorship as you do them proud as well as HH. Keep up the great work. Stewart from England
Here in northern Illinois we have 6 in of snow on the ground fresh and gleaming white. The temperature is 9° Fahrenheit with wind chill of minus 6° F. Clear blue sky at 2:15 p.m. I'm looking at the woods across the fields, a quarter of a mile away and expecting you to be walking out momentarily haha!
Toured sweden on my motorcycle in year 2000 was a nice place and i be doing norway next year go to the artic circle i be on my bmw r850gs and i be doing camping , but this year doing the pyrenees .just bought a hilleburg tent . keep doing the camping respects to you . from Alan in the uk .
Hi Jarl, a beautiful campout. Gota love it. Little bit of a test. Looked like the snow may have brought ten degree F or so warmer weather. Always a blessing in winter. Beautiful view between the skis. The sky in the blue hour and later was fantastic. Lots of stars and planets. I thought the food pack may freeze before it was through cooking. The homestead looked familiar. Think you may have been by it during the summer hike a couple years back. I'm glad you got out and did this. Really nice vid. Pretty quick on packing up. My M/C Nomad Sweden friend Robert can do it with a snap of his fingers. Haha Later Get another one. Hope that van started.
Thanks Sam, this was not the same homestead, but it is probably not further away than maybe 50 miles, the van started without any issues, I keep a little bit of safety heat going, just above freezing and that seems to be working fine:-)
Great camp. I hate it once it gets into the single digits and worst still once it gets below zero. It just makes things so slow and hard. What a great place to pitch a tent.
Always impressed and entertained by your ability to capture the awesomeness of the scenery. I learn something every time I watch your videos. Thanks, from a fellow outdoor enthusiast 🏔
So very beautiful out there in that frozen wilderness. I have a difficult time how a thin tent will keep a person from freezing to death in those temperatures. I guess it takes the right combination of equipment and gear. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I can use some of the gear to keep my old bones warm during the cold winter months.
The tent doesn't keep you warm. What keeps you warm is your body heat. You need to trap it by making sure you have the correct cloths, sleeping pad and sleeping bag rated for lower than you camp in. With this correct gear, it's no where near as hard as it looks........ but it's not easy either, just far more comfortable than you'd think. Once in your bag, you should pretty much feel just like your inside a house. If you don't, then your pad or bag needs upgrading.
I'm Japanese.I'm using a translator, so the sentences may be strange.I also enjoy camping as a hobby, but I've never been to a camping environment like this before, and I really admire it! I will continue to support you from Japan! from Simon
Amazing photography!!! Too cold though? At what point did you think, what the heck I'm I doing out here in these temps? Haha! Thanks for going through it to let us feel it. Take care buddy!
I was surprised to see your van instead of a car. Plenty of cargo carrying capacity. Stunningly beautiful snow scenes throughout. Definitely COLD temperatures. Perfect tent pitch, each & every time. The sweater you're wearing while pitching tent looks as warm as it is beautiful. Get that Western Mountaineering Puma sleeping bag (GWS Outer) out of its stuff sack so it can fluff up then go about other setup routines. On a cold light there isn't a sleeping bag on the planet I rather have than your Puma. A sign of your experience is when you inflate your air mattress with the pump sack instead of inflating it with air from your lungs. Those ski boots are much different from the bindings & lace 'em up boots I wore way back when. I especially like the lack of dialog & your photography. What little dialog there is, is pertinent, especially when you mentioned what the temperatures are. Starts getting dark around 3:30 in the afternoon; that is something I'd have a hard time getting use to in real life. Please consider omitting the coffee making scene, I've seen it in most every video you've ever made. Delighted to see a change to hot chocolate today & with good reason. I'd likely want to be munching on chunks of pre-cooked bacon throughout the day/night. I'd even consider "bacon" as dessert. Those Freeze Dried meals you so often eat, Real Turmat, ought to consider making you one of their Official GoodWill Ambassadors. Loved your very favorable comment about "this is Sweden at it's Finest". closing comment. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
Does Norway and Sweden have an open border? You can cross into Sweden without any consequences? Have you ever considered bringing a thermometer with you to show the temperature. The snow ❄️ and the trees looks like where I live in Ontario. This adventure and your cinematography might be your best yet. It is great that you also do some talking.
Thanks Mike, yes the border is open, I have been looking for a good thermometer, and bought a few, but they dont really work, might see if I can find a simple one, the backpacking ones does not work at all
Hello my friend. Thank you for sharing your enjoyable adventures. Question. Why did you choose your tent rather then a geometric style like tarra. I would think they have better snow loading? But not big concern for you. ( Note: I'm 67 rarely leave my couch and fireplace)
Hi, I’m planing a camping trip to the north of Sweden at the end of march, what sleeping bag system do you recommend for full Norway/sweden winter camping? Great channel
Thank you, I use a Western Mountaineering Puma GWS and a Thermarest Neoair Xtherm sleeping pad. You need something really warm or you could use several sleeping bags.
I understand the thinking behind your question. I, too, have come to prefer gas canister stoves. It's simply a matter of keeping the gas canister warm. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
Yes, simplicity, and I dont want to go out and buy another stove, people keep asking me «why dont you use this, why dont you use that», but I just use what I have, thats it, I am sure that gear you know well performs better than «better» gear in almsot all situations.
Excellent scenery… curious to know about the ski set up and boots you used on this outing.. Light duty down hill set up? Those boots heavy over long distance travel? Kind regards New Brunswick Canada 🇨🇦
Hello! Great stuff as usual. I think I asked to before about your campsite over shoes. I have Baffin tent booties but I need good over shoes. Please tell me any information that can help me acquire a pair. Thank you
@@NorwegianXplorer We use these and like them, maybe you would like them too? www.militarysurplus.eu/product-eng-39096-COLLAPSIBLE-CUP-FOLD-A-CUP-R-LIME-200-ML.html
I was always under the impression that Sweden didn’t get a whole lot of snow because the mountains of Norway claimed most of the moisture before it got to the Swedish side. Looks like I was wrong though.
@@NorwegianXplorer oh well. Only another three to four months of winter to go for you; there’s about six weeks left here, if that! 🤣🤣 I actually like the snow but we don’t usually get much in the southern half of the UK. It’s usually just wind and rain. When it does snow I like the effect of the moonlight on the snow. When that happens it doesn’t get truly dark, as there is a beautiful, warm, ethereal glow cast across the landscape.
If your pad is rated to 6 R ASTM (or higher), you could ditch that extra lb worth of foam (another 2R) pad at those temps. Sometime when you're out there, go ahead and remove it out from under your pad for a test, and you'll realize it's not doing anything and you'll still feel the same warmth because your air pad is rated for even colder than you're at. Had you the actual need for it (if you had a 3 season pad) you would have quickly learned it would have to go on top of the air pad, because the air in the pad would be still be cold, even with the foam under it. I see a LOT of winter campers doing this, because they just copy other winter campers. I know, some claim "well in case I have a leak, I have a backup" but let's be real, if you only had 2 R ASTM you couldn't continue to lay there on it without freezing anyway. You'd have to get up, stay up tending to a fire all night or night hike back out. So they're not a real "backup" plan either. I just welcome you to test just your pad without it (if it is a 4 season 6R+ rated pad that is.) I think you'll see you're needlessly carrying an extra pound of weight for no real advantage.
I started to compose a list of things I've seen Jarl use the foam pad for in many of his other videos, changed my mind & am asking you to consider doing your own research. Compile your own list as you enjoy Jarl's other videos then come back & show us the list of things you discovered Jarl using the foam pad for. You'll quickly realize Jarl uses his foam pad in the most advantageous/useful ways. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
@@azclaimjumper The thing about winter camping is, everything is so much heavier. It was just a suggestion to help him reduce (needless) weight (if he uses a pad already matched for winter temps) as for sitting, they make the same material in small sections and sell them as sit pads. Once your tent is open, that can be used to store all your stuff. If you found yourself in need of storing gear on the snow often, one could simply use a small and lightweight tarp instead, for that for just a couple ounces. I wasn't telling he CAN'T carry it. I was inviting him to try without it, to see if he might enjoy the lighter load, while staying just as comfortable..........as in this video, he only shows using it under a pad (that looks to be a good, solid winter rated pad, where it's not doing anything.) Hey, I'm not judging, I have to carry a car camping, thermorest mondoking (the og version is 7 lbs!) because no one is offering a 6R+ ASTM pad that's at least 30" wide yet for us extra large men. So I know the pain of carrying too much in the winter. It's an invite to try new things. It wasn't a command.
It is a choice I make to not carry wood or to cut down anything in nature, no wood to be picked in most places I go. The challenge of keeping warm without a fire always excites me and challenges my winter skills.

It has a Dale brand on it, but probably handmade

Wow wonderful 😍What camera do you use?
Thank you, I use a Sony a7m4
Beauty video. Who makes the trails?
Thanks David, I dont know, I think it is a public thing in this area.
Essa barraca parece ser gigante
Its a 3p tent, so it would fit 2 people easily
Hello my friend. Thank you for sharing your enjoyable adventures. Question. Why did you choose your tent rather then a geometric style like tarra. I would think they have better snow loading? But not big concern for you. ( Note: I'm 67 rarely leave my couch and fireplace)
Hey, thanks Martin, this is my winter tent so this is what I use, I dont think you will find better winter tents than Hilleberg.
@@NorwegianXplorer but why didn't you choose a hilleberg Tarra or other geometric style from hilleberg?
I use what I have🤷♂️
Fair enough :) I REALLY enjoy your adventures, thank you so much for sharing. I get cold just watching. Stay safe my friend.
@@NorwegianXplorer thank you for the info I will look into it
@@backpackingJas Good luck on your trip!
@@NorwegianXplorer thank you 😊😊
*꧁ 🎀💐 Obrigado 👌 Bom vídeo.. 👍 Tudo ótimo 👍 ꧂*
Thank you!
Always enjoy your videos! I’m curious why you don’t use a liquid fuel stove in the cold.
Thanks, Because I prefer the gas stove always, and I am not going to buy some other stove I think
@@NorwegianXplorer I get it. If it’s not broken then don’t fix it.
Excellent scenery… curious to know about the ski set up and boots you used on this outing..
Light duty down hill set up? Those boots heavy over long distance travel?
Kind regards
New Brunswick Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks, this is a randonee or backcountry skiing setup, made for long walks and steep downhill terrain
Hello! Great stuff as usual. I think I asked to before about your campsite over shoes. I have Baffin tent booties but I need good over shoes. Please tell me any information that can help me acquire a pair. Thank you
Thank you, they are made by Norwegian brand Helsport
We love your video's! But, one thing: Your coffee cup is SO small! How can that be enough coffee/hot drink? ! ;-)
Thank you, it is never enough😂
@@NorwegianXplorer We use these and like them, maybe you would like them too? www.militarysurplus.eu/product-eng-39096-COLLAPSIBLE-CUP-FOLD-A-CUP-R-LIME-200-ML.html
I never knew that in sweden snow alot
Sweden snows a lot yes, in the north
I was always under the impression that Sweden didn’t get a whole lot of snow because the mountains of Norway claimed most of the moisture before it got to the Swedish side. Looks like I was wrong though.
More snow in sweden than in Norway now I think
@@NorwegianXplorer oh well. Only another three to four months of winter to go for you; there’s about six weeks left here, if that! 🤣🤣
I actually like the snow but we don’t usually get much in the southern half of the UK.
I just welcome you to test just your pad without it (if it is a 4 season 6R+ rated pad that is.)
I think you'll see you're needlessly carrying an extra pound of weight for no real advantage.
The foam pad will never ever be needless, it is for everything but heat. Its a seat, a storage place and many other things.

It is such a wonderful little piece of gear:-)
@@azclaimjumper The thing about winter camping is, everything is so much heavier. It was just a suggestion to help him reduce (needless) weight (if he uses a pad already matched for winter temps)
as for sitting, they make the same material in small sections and sell them as sit pads.
Once your tent is open, that can be used to store all your stuff.
If you found yourself in need of storing gear on the snow often, one could simply use a small and lightweight tarp instead, for that for just a couple ounces.
I wasn't telling he CAN'T carry it. I was inviting him to try without it, to see if he might enjoy the lighter load, while staying just as comfortable..........as in this video, he only shows using it under a pad (that looks to be a good, solid winter rated pad, where it's not doing anything.)
Hey, I'm not judging, I have to carry a car camping, thermorest mondoking (the og version is 7 lbs!) because no one is offering a 6R+ ASTM pad that's at least 30" wide yet for us extra large men. So I know the pain of carrying too much in the winter.
It's an invite to try new things. It wasn't a command.
Happy with hmg 4400?
Yes, very, everything but the hip belt
is there any reason you don't make a fire?
Many, I never make a fire, I enjoy the challenge of winter camping without a fire
your answer is good enough - thanks@@NorwegianXplorer
Thanks Robert!
Why no Fire?
It is a choice I make to not carry wood or to cut down anything in nature, no wood to be picked in most places I go. The challenge of keeping warm without a fire always excites me and challenges my winter skills.

Any danger from predators like bears?
No they are pretty much exterminated in Norway, sadly Norway is extremely backwards when it comes to protecting wildlife
They go into hibernation in the winter anyway too though.
Please, bears in hibernation in cold weather.
