    There will probably be transitional arrangements for people who have taken only Part 1 PLAB before the UKMLA comes in, but it will be important for them not to waste time. I knew a doctor who had done a pre-registration house job (six months) in the UK after an Indian MB BS, then went on maternity leave. When she came back for her second house job the rules had changed, so she was stuck afterwards with provisional registration and could only do more pre-reg jobs. To get full registration and make progress she would have had to take a new exam: I don't remember whether it was the PLAB or its predecessor the TRAB.

    So an IMG who has completed his undergraduate training and has experience for about a year as a Physician will need to go through FY1 and FY2? (Even though he/she might be overqualified for the job)
    Because you see, after getting GMC registration through PLAB, one could apply for jobs based on their experience.
    Won't that be the case anymore?

      We’re not sure of these details. I’d suggest contacting the GMC directly about this 🙏

    Hello Dr Aman
    I have a few queries.
    1. After introduction of UKMLA for both IMG and UK graduates, at what post IMG would be employed? FY1 or FY2?
    2. What is your opinion on current and upcoming job scenario for IMG as FY2/SHO taking into account the introduction of PAs/HCAs at the levels of junior doctors? Correct me if I am wrong.
    Should a person plan their PLAB journey now. How competitive the job situation is going to be in the next 2-3 years?
    3. I would also like to know your opinion after new immigration rules which are being discussed right now. And if implemented, what could be the possible consequences on the doctors who wish to pursue PLAB pathway and bring their dependents along in the next 2-4 years?
    Waiting for your response.
    Thanks!!

    Sir will it be harder for the IMGs?? As ukmla is also taken by doctors in UK.

    • @dr_aman_arora
      @dr_aman_arora  Год назад +2

      We’re not sure yet but remember it is set at FY1 level so may be easier!

    • @faithlesshound5621
      @faithlesshound5621 Год назад

      From what the GMC is saying, IMGs will start to take the new exam a year before the local medical students. So the GMC will be trying it out on them, before they know how the students would fare. We know that all medical schools are not equal, since their results in post-graduate exams are not the same.
      It may be easy to delay the expansion of the exam, since the medical schools already have systems for examining their own students, which I presume would be switched to the new national exam. Or will they have their own exams as well, as they do in some countries?

    Ok so once the IMGs clear ukmla will they start from FY 1 or FY 2 ?

    • @dr_aman_arora
      @dr_aman_arora  Год назад +1

      You will have a licence to practice in uk. Which job or training post you apply for then depends on meeting the other eligibility criteria eg F1, F2, specialty training etc

    • @faithlesshound5621
      @faithlesshound5621 Год назад +1

      Back in the 19th and 20th centuries, a proportion of doctors emigrating to the UK took the local non-university licensing exams (LMSSA, LRCP & MRCS, etc) along with local medical students so that they would have a British qualification, but the jobs they went into would usually depend on how much (or little) experience they already had. At that time the unpaid House Officer posts were for a privileged minority so immigrants probably would not get them. So they did not have the same career path.

    I am from Greece and I want to enter NHS after February of 2024 so will European Union graduates take UKMLA from 2024 too??

    • @hello43555
      @hello43555 Год назад

      Because the UK students will take it from academic year 2024/2025 not from the beginning of the year! So If I want to apply for example in March 2024 will I have to take the ukmla exam?

    the course contents are similar to those of plab or will we need to study basic sciences like anatomy physiology for UKMLA too?

    • @dr_aman_arora
      @dr_aman_arora  Год назад

      We don’t know for sure yet but I don’t think anatomy or physiology will feature as they don’t feature too much in PLAB 1 syllabus

    EU graduate doctors have exemption to PLAB exams. What happens to this?

      No they don’t really, probably they used to but apparently not anymore

    • @akinsdecaprio

      You sound so naive! Am writing you right here from the EU! I have GMC right here on my WhatsApp, I chat them at will and I have many classmates who have just gained full GMC registration recently after medschool. So, I really don't know what you're arguing about! PLAB or UKMLE is for IMGs from outside Europe!, UK & Australia also accept ECFMG certification if you have finished steps 1& 2 USMLE.
