A few years back I shared a story online of a Mexican gardener whose English wasn't the best, and referred to Canadian geese as "cobra-chicken." While it may just be a coincidence, I am BEYOND DELIGHTED by the notion that that name has spread throughout the internet.
Animals distrust out of instinct. Feeding helps establish a bridge towards trust. If you never fed your dog or cat, I doubt they would like you either.
Everyone says geese are aggressive but it really depends on how socialised they are. Where i am theres a big lake they hang out at in the summer, and people tend to feed them lots of bread crumbs so theyre used to people. Theyll even eat out of your hand and let you get close even with babies around
Nice that's a good privileged little place you got. I got one in Bastrop Texas but I don't live there no longer for over a decade. But I've went there some year ago. It's really peaceful feeding animals who are at least greatful
To whoever reads this, please don't feed aquatic birds bread, it can cause a health condition called angel wing that prevents them from ever flying again.

Story time: In 2013 I lived in an appartment in a suburb to a big city. This suburb was filled with forests, small lakes and high cliffs. I got a new friend from work and it turned out we lived close to each other, about a 5 min walk apart. Summer approached and we made it a thing to go together to the lake closest to us as often as we could, bringing snacks and drinks and just hanging out. After a week we noticed two families of Canadian geese had given birth to a total of 9 gosslings and we started to feed them. Our trips to the lake became more about feeding the little birdies rather than just hang out. After another few weeks the gosslings started sitting in our laps while we fed them and the parents would just mosy around until we stood up and waved goodbye as we walked home for the day. The gosslings got bigger and we kept feeding them and petting them. One day my friends date were nearby and texted if she wanted to meet up wich she did. When he came up and got closer to us the parent geese sounded the alarm! -”Intruder alert”, hiss, honk and flail your wings y’all, get rid of the enemy! they screamed as they full on attacked my friends date! He ran away and that’s when we realized the parents were not just mosying about as we fed their kin, they were on the lookout, constantly, protecting their children, and us! There were 4 grown-ups, 2 mommys and 2 papas, allways surrounding us in a half moon shape facing the water line. A few weeks more passed, then came a busy couple of weeks for my compadre and me. Lots of work, lots of personal stuff, and we rarely had time to go to the lake. At the end of the second week it was my birthday and my family came to town to celebrate. As we walked out to the parking lot, getting into our cars to drive to the restaurant we booked I heard a familiar song from above. The honks me and my friend had gotten to know so well were approaching. And then, in a straight horisontal line came all the 13 geese flying. The 9 little gosslings we had fed on our laps were now fully grown geese and together with their parents they headed abroad for the winter or maybe just moved on from their safe place. I waved one last time to them as they flew low above me and honked their honks. I shouted ”bye, take care!” and they flew away out of sight. That was the coolest birthday gift I have ever gotten.
You know since I didn't get a good look at the thumbnail, I was all ready to come on here saying "oh yeah Canda goose aren't so bad, I've walked up to them while grazing and they don't really care so long as it isn't nesting season and they don't have chicks to protect" And then sure enough I click the video proper and chicks. You are truly terrifying in what you have accomplished, well done./
We had canadian geese that lived around the pond in my neighborhood and they were all really nice tbh. If you had food they would more than happily bring their babies around and let you get pets. We even had a big white one for a while that looked after all the babies
How did you manage to do that in the first place, but even while they were with goslings?! I gave one bread once and it bit me but I wasn’t doing anything threatening, lol! Absolute madlad.
I’ve done the impossible too, I have befriended this small flock of Canada geese at my local pond, they follow me everytime I come with birdseed, some of course let me pet them. I love them.
I was able to make friends with a geese couple, I had corn and they were the only ones at the pond, they came pretty close and almost ate out of my hand but me and the goose both looked uncomfortable so it didn’t lol. I was able to get close and they were a bit skittish but they were very friendly and they never showed any signs of aggression it was wonderful. Never been able to pet any wild ducks or geese I hope one day I can
That’s good that you gave them corn instead of bread, I used to feed the geese at my local pond bread when I was a kid, found out it was not healthy for them and switched to birdseed/corn, most of them do eat from my hand, some are very skittish but they all follow me when I show up and some even trust me enough to let me pet them. I have had a couple hisses from protective parents but never got attacked like in those goose attack videos.
