She was the first Black American Miss America. Her winning was huge. Her crown being taken was huge. Her success after...inspiring 🥰. The lesson of Vanessa. Don't let others define you. She succeeded in spite of what others had planned for her
So true. She was an amazing Miss America. I bet her replacement knew she was 2nd best. It was a sad moment.
The drama she went through strengthened her and it strenghthened all of us who were in her corner. All things work together for good and after Miss America decided she was not good enough.... Hollywood said "Come be a Silver Screen Siren!"
Yes J....not just good looks and great voice....she can act too.
I know.... love, right?
Thanks, I almost fainted when he asked "....who is she?" If he wants to see her act, I recommend ERASER with ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER!
Here's another song that tells It like It is, some's It all up. AN EASIER AFFAIR, by George Michael! It's really something when life gets in the way. It seems many times others just need to pull people down but look who came out on top! We all only have one life to live, & only we can make It count the best for ourselves!
@@dillodefense Don't diss the runner up, she was ALSO a Woman of. Color, being part West Indian, that's why the pageant was so special that year!
Don't worry Jay, you're not the first person to get lost in Vanessa's eyes 😍😍
😆
Absolutely accurate 💯
Vanessa Williams initially gained recognition in 1983 as the first African-American crowned Miss America (1984). However, a few weeks prior to the end of her reign, Penthouse magazine announced it would be publishing unauthorized nude photographs of her in an upcoming issue. Amid growing media controversy, Williams resigned as Miss America in July 1984 and was replaced by Suzette Charles. She went on to become a singer/actress.
Worth noting that Suzette, originally the first runner-up, was also African-American. At the end of the day, Vanessa was the complete package.
I think it was the second week in September that she resigned her crown, but still yes.
OH, i remember seeing the Penthouse pics when i was younger. Hellllllllo!! damn girl, you fine!!!!
That's 😔
@@docbearmb And Suzette also pursued a music career.
I was at the Atlantic City Convention Center the night that Vanessa was crowned Miss America….her talent segment was singing and she stunned everyone…she was beautiful AND talented!
Wow, what an amazing experience?. What was everyone’s reactions there? Seeing her talent before she was famous just fantastic.
At first Callum I think people were shocked by how good her singing voice was...the audience was a bit quiet....then they really realized that this was someone special. I count myself lucky that I was there.
...yes, I was there too!!...BEYOND PHENOMENAL!!...
"Colors of the Wind" is another good song of hers. She was the first African-American woman crowned Miss America 1984 in 1983. However, a scandal arose the following year when, a few weeks prior to the end of her reign, Williams learned that Penthouse magazine would be publishing unauthorized nude photographs. She resigned due to the controversy. She became very successful in spite of the controversy. Thirty-two years later, Miss America CEO Sam Haskell offered her a public apology (during the Miss America 2016 pageant) for the events of 1984.
I love that song also, she’s an incredible singer, and I have always told my wife that I would only leave her for Vanessa Williams, so she was always safe. lol
Colors of the Wind is amazing. Second, third and fourth this recommendation.
I never knew there was an apology. I sorta lost interest in the pageants after what happened to her.
@@TheShiskebobYes, excellent song about humanity and how every culture and creature needs respect and knowledge grows often in the form of the more you know, the more you know that you did not know you did not know. It is an excellent educational song and a 1995 classic.
She won Miss America but was disqualified after nude photos surfaced. She went on to act and was once married to former LA Laker Rick Fox.
She's the first celebrity I interviewed, and she was extemely kind, engaging and intelligent. She was starring in 'Ugly Betty' at the time and was so gracious, especially to her costar Michael Urie, who she called a genius, and our interview focused on Special Olympics International, whose board of directors she had been a member of for over a decade. She's a really warm-hearted person in addition to her singing and acting talents.
And having said all that, I LOVE her voice. It's so warm and velvety.
You've interviewed her? That's cool
She’s a former Miss America, actress, and singer. I liked her in Eraser.
So did I, I love that movie
I was at the premiere for that movie, here in NYC. We walked out of the theater and she was standing right there. I was so excited to get her autograph.
yeah, eraser with "ivillibeback."
i enjoyed that flick.
She is so underrated! She’s an actor too. Not to mention drop dead gorgeous!🐝🤗❤️
She’s an awesome actress also. She played Terri in the movie soul food. She was also the first Black Miss America.
Love Vanessa Williams!! She had other hits “Dreaming”, “Running Back to You”, “Work to Do”. She’s also in the movies “Dance With Me” and “Soul Food”. A multi-talented lady for sure!!!
She was also in the Movie "Hoodlum" with Laurence Fishburne, Cucely Tyson, and Andy Garcia. About the real life of "Bumpy Johnson". I believe he lived in Harlem in the 1930's or 40's. Bumpy went up against "Dutch Schultz" over controlling the Numbers Racket there. Good movie
You're forgetting Eraser with Arnold Schwarzenegger. She was fantastic. I think that might have been her only action movie, but still proof of her range.
She was pretty good in the ABC show Ugly Betty, too.
Ah you are my fellow early 90s person, i had all these tracks in mind.
Johnson’s Family Vacation “i10 by 10”🤣🤣🤣
She is so gorgeous and talented. This beautiful song reminds me of my nephew and his wife. They were best friends all through school, then, after they graduated, she had a brief marriage that amounted to nothing. She came back to town and my mother and I ran across her working in a store we were in. She talked a long time,, asked about Jacob, and gave us her number to give to him. Right away they reconnected , and before you know it, they married. Their oldest child, their daughter, will turn 18 next month… she’s a wonderful woman, and he really did save the best for last. He went through a few girlfriends, but none equaled Laura.
That's a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing with us.❤
I love seeing all of the nice things everyone has to say about Vanessa. She truly took control of her career post-scandal and made it on her own terms. No denying she’s talented and beautiful, but it’s great to hear she’s a nice person too.
My favorite song that showcases her vocals is "Colors of the Wind" from Disney's Pocahontas movie.
YES! You should react to "Colors of the Wind" Jay. It was a big hit as well.
I agree!
Yes!! Still reminds me of my childhood watching Pocahontas on videotape. Ah those were the days..
@@donkeygospel6Yes, many thought that "Save The Best For Last" was from a movie soundtrack as well. It was not, but it helped get her "Colors Of The Wind" in 1995. "Save The Best For Last" was released in August 1991 on "The Comfort Zone", then as a single in early 1992, as it spent 6 weeks at #1 and charted throughout 1992 and performed at the Grammy Awards in 1993. The song is considered one of the best of the 1990s.
Vanessa Williams was the 1st black miss America. Posed in playboy. Married Rick Fox from the NBA Lakers. She's been in movies and TV
She has never "posed" for play boy. Those pictures were for a project that a photographer "friend" of hers and were sold to playboy.
@@remyfacade no…it was not Playboy, it was Penthouse, and I still have that edition. I’m gay, but I also collect pop culture items, and most definitely, this was major pop culture history!
@@roger1296 I responded to the guy saying she posed for playboy. It could have been hustler, the point is she didn't pose for any of them, she was betrayed.
Jay - your reaction to her eyes and beauty are how a lot of us felt back when this was released.
It's Wilhemina Slater from 'Ugly Betty' 🙂
She was perfect for this role. She is such a beautiful and amazing actress
She was a good singer
Lovely voice. She's a former Miss America...but got her crown taken away, sadly. :-(
@Jane Smith what for?
@@ForestFairywales for some nude pics she had done much earlier. :/
She was the first Black Miss America. Vanessa Williams sucess is the best revenge🥰
@@janesmith146 oh dear 🤭 I wonder if that would happen today? I'm British so remember the song charted well over here, but don't remember any controversy over it! Thanks for the info 👍
She will always be Miss America to me.....
‘Love Is’ by Brian McKnight with Vanessa Williams is one of my favorite songs. ‘Colors of the Wind’ from her is a great song too.
Oh yeah "love is" great song underrated, needs to be play in 2022 24/7
“Love Is” legit made me cry the first time I heard it. I was a kid then, but the beauty of the music really moved me.
She was one of the top beauties of the 90ies period.
You spelled "is" and "all time" wrong
Super talented, Vanessa Williams was the first African American Miss America. Although she lost her crown due to some nude pictures, she went on to have a wonderful career as a singer and actress. Beautiful lady.
She became famous after a controversy that made her lose the Miss America crown in the 80's, in the 90's she wasn't a hidden gem but a shining superstar through her music and also her acting, she can dance too as you can see in her movie "Dance With Me". She's a beautiful and talented woman, and i love this song, it's a classic.
Her acting career is still pretty solid at least it was through the 2010's with Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty
Thank you for you professional explanations of her pass
Some people almost seem happy. Taking her crown to me is like a funky azz divorce. Very good mom , guess what tell me any disgrace as a adult. Only one mistake at a young age
This song still gives me the chills.
She is singing about having feelings for a friend, who shares with her all his passions, for other women, and doesn’t realize, she loves him.
Sometimes the very thing you’re looking for is the one thing you can’t see. It’s like, Finally, you see me.
American singer, songwriter, actress, producer, Broadway star, and Miss America. With a career spanning over 40 years, surprising that you've never heard of her. She is a truly beautiful human being.
I love this song. I wish she had done more. She's a good actress though. She was in Ugly Betty and some movies.
I forgot about Ugly Betty!
I too had forgotten about "Ugly Betty"!
Ugly Betty is one of my most favorite shows - hilarious, championed diversity and inclusivity, outstanding acting and hilarious!!! I watch it often.
Desperate Housewives, also.
@@heidicheney3485 she made me start watching the show again after I gave up on it
She's been around since '88. The Right Stuff was the first song I remember hearing by her.
The Right Stuff
Dreamin
Just For Tonight
Colors of the Wind
Love Is, it's a Brian Mcknight song ft. Vanessa Williams
The Comfort Zone, Darlin I, Work To Do, Running Back To You
The Sweetest Days
Thank you because I couldn't remember the name of her song with Brian McKnight
@@tbglover Just relistened to it. Just freaking perfection. I LOVED that song and kinda forgot about.
Dreamin is a great song
Please react to her duet with Brian McKnight "Love Is". She was the 1st Black Miss America in 1983, had to give back her crown when nude photos surfaced, but even now is the most successful Miss America ever. She's now an actress & has done very well in her career. She was married to Rick Fox & he's the father of her 4th child (3 kids 1st marriage to attorney who helped her during the Miss America scandal). She is well known for her beauty, but also very smart.
Yes, great song! 👏🏾👍🏾
She is a beautiful lady, with a beautiful voice, and a great actress.
My 12 year old self was madly in love with Vanessa Williams back in the mid-90s
...she is the only "Miss America" whose name EVERYBODY knows and remembers!!!...
She was the first black Miss America.
This was a huge hit back in the day and was played on the radio all the time. Such a beautiful song and Vanessa must be one of the most beautiful people who have ever existed.
I absolutely LOVE Vanessa Williams. Her singing, her acting, she just seems like a nice person. I have never come across anyone who says they dislikes, which is unusual considering how beautiful she is. I haven't heard the usual jealousy from others
Not only was she Miss America but also is an actress. Yes, she is so so beautiful. 💝💝
This is one of those rare songs that instantly sounded, almost from the moment it came out, like it had been around for ever - it's such a timeless sentiment, chord progression, lyric and style of singing. This I think was reflected in the way that here in the UK it got used on adverts right from the word go and made it onto umpteen love songs compilations throughout the 1990s and doubtless beyond. (A very similar one in all these respects, from the same time period and which would be worth reacting to too, is Get Here by Oleta Adams.)
It's the easiest of listens, because Vanessa never oversings it, it's kept very simple, and although it's sung very sweetly it always steers the right side of falling into saccharine. The production and instrumentation manages to avoid being too 'thin' and synthetic, or too mushy and overblown, unlike many other songs of the late '80s and early '90s era. It made #3 in the UK singles chart, and although never had any other significant hits here (her Disney song Colo[u]rs of the Wind was a minor one in the mid-'90s) this classic remains an airplay staple to this day.
One caveat, though - don't take Vanessa at her word on astronomical matters. Alas, it's a hard fact that the sun _never_ goes round the moon...
Dude her story is crazy. She won Miss America during the late 80s and it was stripped away from her because she posed for Playboy... She had a couple of other songs but this was her signature song. This was the song for my high school graduation dance.
She is also a great actress. Since it's the Holiday season you need to check out her Christmas movie. It's called A Diva's Christmas Carol.
Such a great Scrooge adaptation! She is awesome.
Oh yes that’s a great one!
I totally forgot about that. John Taylor from Duran Duran is in it. 😄
Love that movie! I try to catch it every year
Love that movie !
We all fell in love with her too when this record came out. Join the club! ;)
I can safely say this was one of my first girl crushes. She's absolutely stunning with a voice to match.
She made another song with Brian McKnight "Love Is". It truly highlights what love is all about. My Favorite Song
Mine too
Such a great song! Totally forgot til I saw this post. Thank you! 😊
Yes! I love that song!!!
Awww, one of my top 10 fav songs!!!!!!!!!
She’s an actress now. Was a dethroned Miss America.
It’s about a guy who seems to be friends with this person and comes running to her when he gets his heart broken by someone else when she loves him all along.
Yes, she’s a stunning woman.
Vanessa was absolutely huge for a minute. Miss America, great singer and was a quality actress. This song was a massive radio hit. Massive.
Sadly in the 90s, there were so many competitive amazing three hit wonders. The industry was swamped with so much talent back then because so much was changing in the industry. Hopefully some of these people Have enough royalties to make the rest of their life comfortable
I remember watching the Miss America contest the night she won and I was so happy for her. After the nude photos surfaced and they took her crown away she didn't retreat. She took charge of her life, accepted responsibility for her actions and then went on to be probably the most successful Miss America in history. She is amazing!
First black Miss America and she's also a great actress she had a solo career in the 90s
Loved this song when I was a little boy but never understood it, 30 years later it makes perfect sense, I always turned to a certain female friend when things went wrong from my teens to now, turns out she is and always was my soulmate happy together now
Her eyes? Her voice, Jayvee, her voice. Concentrate! Lol
Lolol😄
She had the last laugh. So beautiful, talented, and a survivor.
this song is gorgeous - smooth, elegant, heartbreaking, redemptive. vanessa perfectly embodies this, vocally and stylistically. still holds up 33 years later - timeless ❤
She went from penthouse magazine, to Miss America, to one of the 90's best singers. Amazing!
She is a massive talent. Sings, acts and such a beauty. I’m glad you reacted to her.
Ha ha she had the same effect on me when I first seen this video in the 90’s. Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.
She has another beautiful song - Dreamin (Official Video).
Her eyes are not just beautiful, she is a beautiful woman inside and out. ❤
I'm not crying, you're crying!!...fantastic song, incredible woman.
She was the first African American Miss America and a very good actress. She is extremely beautiful.
I also thought she was great in Ugly Betty, she is a wonderfully talented artist of many genres.
This was early 90s but in my mind it's an honorary 80s song, because when I was a kid there were ballads like this in the charts every other week, half the time from someone you'd never heard of before, half the time you never heard of them again. By the mid-90s it wasn't really happening anymore to that same extent and I don't suppose it ever will again. I was like 7 years old and just fell in love over and over with these completely astounding singers (who often happened to be drop-dead gorgeous, too). What a time, man.
I remember this song as Vanessa has such a lovely voice and she is such a beauty. I had forgotten this song as its been so long since I heard it. Thank you for sharing this sweetheart, its made my day lol. Take care and stay safe please my friends God bless you all love hugs and peace to everyone Mary-Ellen UK
When I first heard this song, I remember noticing how beautiful this woman was and still is. The song is nostalgic of my music for RNB and pop music.
Vanessa Williams is a class act.
She mesmerized me as a teenager with her beauty and her voice in this video! Yes, those damn eyes!!
One of the most beautiful women ever! And this song is the same!
This is so wholesome. It's so cute that he's never heard of her, and that he thinks her music sounds like it could be a current hit. One of the most beautiful women of all time, no wonder he was captivated!
"Dreamin''" is a must listen from her and "Work To Do" was a great cover of an Isley Brothers song by her, off the same album. Worth a listen.
She is more than a triple threat. She is stunningly beautiful. She was the 1st black Miss America. She can sing like an angel, dance and act too. Hugely talented.
You have to listen to Dreamin' by her.... Such a good song!
Vanessa Williams til this day in 2022 still looks and can sing as beautiful as she is in this reaction
She's been on Broadway, in the movies, on TV (Desperate Housewives comes to mind), and in the recording studio over the years. Her star has waned over recent years, but she's had a lot of success.
FYI she has a daughter and she has her own duo called Lion Babe and they are amazing
One of her daughters is the singer for Lion Babe, a soul/r&b/electric duo. You may like them. I saw Lion Babe in concert and they were great
Everyone is talking about her early hits but I love some her beautiful later hits like The Sweetest Days..
Other songs of hers that you might want to check out "Work to do", "The Right Stuff", "Running back to you" and "The Sweetest Days".
I am 47 y.o. man and I have watched your react videos. It's really nice to see a guy from another generation discovering the best of old songs and getting surprised. Most of guys from this new generation maybe listen to these songs and get bored. I think it's awesome! Hehehe! All your reactions are very very very much genuine. Good spirit. Good man.
She was a Miss America, turned singer/actress. As far as her music career, she basically had this one song, but it was a huge hit at the time in the 90's, but, yeah, she's gorgeous.
Lol she had more than this one song... and more than one hit! 🙂
Color of the Wind? I think she had more as well.
@@salwashabazz7329 ha, I'm sure she did, but my memory isn't what it used to be. This is the one I remember.
Dreamin, Darlin I, The Comfort Zone, Happiness, Work to Do, The Right Stuff...that’s off the top of my head 🤔😁
@@salwashabazz7329 right on! I stand corrected.
She’s famous, she was miss America she’s has another great song, she is still a beautiful older lady😊

One of my favorite songs ever
Agreed!!!! Such an amazing song.
Same!
Piano in the Dark is such a gorgeous song! Difficult to recreate. Definitely a studio song. Brenda Russell wrote many beautiful songs … Get Here by Oleta Adams is another example.
@@zainkhanrealtor8198 I have a friend who is a phenomenal singer and per my request, she covers this song. She said it is very hard on her voice.
She has got to be close to 65 now. She is beautiful. And she can sing.
She's 61 now
You should listen to "Vanessa Williams - The Sweetest Days" really nice song
Any man with half a brain wishes she was talking to them. She is so incredible and beautiful. I have always loved this song and have it on my playlist, proudly!!
I really loved her version of Colors of the Wind for Disney's Pocahontas. I hope you can check that out!
I had the pleasure of hearing Wendy Waldman, the songwriter, perform this live yesterday. Such an incredible song. Loved Wendy's rendition, and I've always loved Vanessa Williams.
She has a beautiful voice ! Also a v good actress! Ty Jay !
I was so crazy about this song when it was popular. I had always loved Vanessa, but this song just took it to a different level. The message is so deep, but the song is just SO beautiful. I think part of the reason the song was so popular (if I remember right, it was #1 for 4 weeks) is because a lot of people had been in the same position, but I don't think it was something that was so openly expressed, and people really related to it. The song is so beautiful, you wouldn't expect it to be about something so deep. And yes, her EYES are ridiculously beautiful.
You really should check out another song of hers, "The Sweetest Days." I love it as well, but not as much as "Save the Best for Last."
I think one of her pretty songs is “Colors of the Wind” from Disney’s movie Pocahontas.
What I love is the fact she didn't 'blast' her vocals to a grand volume. It was beautiful and special sung tenderly and just right!
Ha! My friend was engaged to her in the 80’s
Vanessa Williams has conquered The music business, movies, television and Broadway. She has sang everything from dance, R&B, Pop, jazz and the Broadway musical stage. She has so many great songs that you can listen to this is one of my favorite it’s called The Comfort Zone which is more up beat R&B
ruclips.net/video/NByBW3tId0I/видео.html
Also she did a Disney theme song Colors of the Wind
I have always loved this song
Vanessa Williams is more than just beautiful. She is an amazing singer, an actress, and a designer. The complete package.
The fact that he doesn't know who she is made me feel incredibly old. 😔😓
90s model, actress and singer and Miss America
I have had her Greatest Hits CD for years. I love this song!
She is an American Icon, has been around since the 80's. I think she is more of a movie star today. She has done it all, television, movies, music, fashion designer.
Good song, I haven’t heard it in a while
Vanessa Williams was the 1984 Miss America, but famously was forced to renounce her crown because of some pictures. It took like 30 years for The Miss America pageant to apologize. In the interim, she had a pretty successful music career in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and has had a successful acting career stretching well into the 2000s.
She's still acting successfully.
This is beautiful song
In 1992, I covered a junior college baseball team that reached the Northern California Regionals in Sacramento. Without going too much into the games, the tournament ended on a really emotional note because the team I covered lost in the championship to their arch rivals. The several-hour bus ride back down to the Central Coast was full of laughs and tears and jokes, and silence, and at some point this song came on the radio and all of the players and coaches, and me, fell into silence and listened to the song and locked into the words, and this bonding moment provided a proper ending to the season.
I really love your reactions, you're so emotional. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
she's seriously underrated as a singer and actor.
