Road cruising around my local area for snakes after some heavy rains. This episode is a bit shorter than usual but I'll upload a second short episode tomorrow to make up for it!
Interesting video. Here in Sattahip we had many types of pit vipers in the garden when I first moved here over thirty years ago. Not so many now due to surrounding urbanisation. We had a nice Bronzeback eating a frog last week. No doubt the rains will bring the snakes out. My pal has a trainer shoe with a pythons teeth embedded in it from when he was riding his bike at dawn. All exciting and interesting stuff.
Thanks Ronald. Around Sattahip there are only 3 species of viper: Calloselasma rhodostoma, Trimeresurus cardamomensis, and Trimeresurus albolabris. Fortunately all species which adapt fairly well to urbanization.
So glad you started posting videos again. Always great content. I was beginning to think my favorite herper had retired from herping or suffered a debilitating injury. Be careful. Even the snake whisperer needs to be cautious.
Those giant centipedes give me the willies. They had similar ones in Hawaii when I was stationed there in the Army. You did not want to get bit by one of those. I made it the 4 1/2 years without getting bitten but I saw a guy put his Kevlar helmet on without checking it first and a giant centipede was in the helmet liner, it partially fell out and bite him just under the eye and in the cheek. Withing 10 minutes he looked like Mike Tyson had blasted him right in the eye lol.
Oh yeah same here! While I appreciate and to “like” them, they don’t make me feel particularly comfortable. Moreover, I feel that they are much more unpredictable than a venomous snake for example. Or maybe I just don’t have enough knowledge of their behavior to properly read them.
Have to Watch your Video Late today, out herping, some Bothriechis schlegelii and Porthidium nassutum, Video of David, Perfect day Btw. Really nice that you overlayed pictures! Love that
I did see the difference in the male and female Malayan Pit Vipers. I have never see a Burmese Bronzeback before. Pretty Cat snake. Cat Snakes seem to becoming more popular in the pet trade. Enjoyed this video about snakes as always.
I think you are right on how unpredictable insects are compared to reptiles. I have been stung more then once when I thought I would be safe but I have never been bitten by a reptile unexpectedly. It isn't scientific but I use a bit more cation with insects just to be sure.
Yep, that’s exactly how I feel. I just can’t trust them, but perhaps it’s just because I lack knowledge and experience with them. I know some bug people who do the same thing with inverts as me with reptiles.
Hey David, have you ever had a muscle spasm or a finger inadvertently twitch while a venomous snake crawled across your hand? I’m super confident watching you handle venomous snakes because you exude a placid energy when handling them, but have you ever had a close call? Great video as usual!
Yes, I’ve actually tried them before. The locals catch them by setting up a large bowl of water under a light bulb. The termites are attracted to the light, fall in the water, drop their wings and sink to the bottom. They are then stir fried with sauce and eaten with rice or alone.
Interesting, the Malayan Pit Vipers head has a much less pronounced arrow head shape compared to other vipers. Are the venom glands in it's cheeks like a lot of other venomous snakes?
Yes, the venom glands are in the usual spot. I’m surprised you say this though, as in my opinion they have one of the most arrow shaped heads of any viper in Thailand. Maybe I just didn’t film from a good angle to see it.
I wonder how many species 0f animals were erradciated from existence before they were ever discovered and named .. It's just the way it is or where ever people decide to live everything else has to go most of the time.. sad and sobering
To be honest I have absolutely no idea which species these were. I did notice there were two distinctively different species flying around that night. I see you’re binge watching my content, just wanted to thank you for that. Greatly appreciated! :)
Your snake videos are always cool David. ‘Thought of joining you and your buddies for your few days trips in the past for the herps but I’ve seen the bugs in the past videos and I am a magnet for them too but I try to avoid them as much as possible. So for now, I just stick with you & your friends youtube posts. 😬
Hi David. 2 easy questions: Why Ruper and you guys usually say "we cooked" what that means? and what is a "lifer"? Im recently learning English and these reptails names from your videos
I’m not sure, I guess it’s just a contagious hobby. If you’re forced to be exposed to snakes by dating someone it’s easy to become fascinated by them too.

Great finds! Loved the yellow faced Bronze Back! Didn't know there was such a thing!
Thanks! The yellow form of this species is incredibly rare, I would guess on average only 1/100 individuals or so have it.
Nice video again, I like the information you always tell about the animals . All those details make them even more interesting. Thank you
Glad you like them! Thanks so much Gemma!

Thanks! I just had to take a step back from making videos for a while because I was occupied in some other projects that consumed all my time.

Cool. Lots of bugs

Thanks for the video David!!

Thanks a lot!
Hi David great video
Hello david! Its me again watching from philippines .
Hello there!
You must upload video thrice a week 😅
Love the video ever thought of coming to Ecuador
Thanks! I’ve definitely thought about it, one day for sure!

Those are termites swarming? That's crazy! We have them in the South of the USA but not like that.
I’d guess it’s a different species of termite
Another fine video!

Never a spasm, but I have had the occasional close call.
Flying termites are a buffet for all the animals of the region. Even humans can eat them. Nice records of pit viper and centipede feeding.

Your crazy 🤪
I disagree. I’d say I take calculated risks 😂🤣

Oh, I think there are countless undescribed species that go extinct all the time. Really sad thought
I wonder what species of termite those are. I only ever encountered the Eastern Subterranean Termite in my career in Pest Management.
To be honest I have absolutely no idea which species these were. I did notice there were two distinctively different species flying around that night. I see you’re binge watching my content, just wanted to thank you for that. Greatly appreciated! :)
Do you think the recent rain had anything to do with the flying ants/termites? Looks like they are in full breeding mode.
Yes absolutely, they always come out like this after the seasons first heavy rains.
ever just look for frogs not to really herp but just to give him the termite lottery with a 5 min lamp shine ?

Haha, bugs are indeed impossible to avoid on these trips! Thanks for watching!
Where's Miller Wilson, aka Plato? Hua Hin has been raining down mpv's, it seems lately.
He had to go back home to Greece to get some surgeries done. He may or may not return, it’s uncertain at this point.
Guyana here again ❤

@@DAVIDSFEEDHello 👋 young david
long time no see bro
Yeah I know, but I’m back now!
Hi David. 2 easy questions: Why Ruper and you guys usually say "we cooked" what that means? and what is a "lifer"? Im recently learning English and these reptails names from your videos
Saying we cooked is a slang term meaning "we did good" a lifer is a term used for finding a species you had previously never have seen in the wild.
What Brett said^
@@DAVIDSFEED Thank you man. Rupert is going to China and we gonna herping together soon. Exciting!
How do you convince all these chicks to go out looking for snakes with you
I’m not sure, I guess it’s just a contagious hobby. If you’re forced to be exposed to snakes by dating someone it’s easy to become fascinated by them too.
Reminds me of a mini fer de lance
They definitely fill that niche in Asia, similar habits.
You got a new car?
Let's watch that
I'm gonna buy you some new flipflops...
I like your voice and the confidence though
Who's the new girl?
(yeah, I'm in trouble)
Incredible footage of the rhodo.

Way more careful..
Eff me, first handsome dandrelaphis ever
Oh yeah, Sky, how could I forget
