I was chartering a bareboat cat. These line of videos by Joe Fox were very helpful in refreshing my memory and teaching catamaran tips, use and management. Thx Joe
all these videos of all channels on the subject perform the manouvers in ideal conditions. please show as how to enter or leave a narrow fairway with the wind blowing 25 knots perpendicular to the fairway.
The easier analogy for beginners in terms of how to use/treat controls is to relate to a supermarket shopping cart. The movements are identical. Left forward, right back, cart turns right, etc.
As mentioned in this video when docking at low speeds it is always recommended to remove the steering from the mix as you will always get more manoeuvrability on a cat from throttles alone.
We had an interesting problems a few weeks ago. One of the engines failed at a very critical time whilst maneuvering to moor in a super tight space... we could not get it restarted. On a 42foot cat I was struggling to get it to move in anyway other than turn on itself, the wind was doing the rest. In the end there was only one way for it: getting towed out of trouble. Have you had any experience of this? The wheel was not helpful at all and the engine just made us turn... I suppose a bow thruster would've helped?
Fantastic video! At what point after leaving the dock do you unlock the wheel and use it for steering? Do you just use the two engines the entire way out of the marina? Same question when arriving - at what point do you decide to lock the wheel and steer with the engines?
Great question. The answer is definitely different for everyone and can depend on how busy the mooring field is. Generally, as soon as you are off the dock and you have positioned the vessel in the direction you wish to go then unlock the wheel. Visa versa when you are coming back in, lock the wheel and then get into position for docking using just the two engines.
Another great video. The biggest challenge that I have is berthing in strong wind/current. Also a video on anchoring using shore lines would be useful. Have you got plans to release a video on either of these?
Hi Miles, we have a lot of content lined up but when the conditions are right we will give this a go. Our biggest concern in strong winds is that the drone won't work out so it may be hard to explain.
@@TMGYachts I hadn't thought of the drone issue in strong winds. Your instructional videos are the best I have seen on the internet - really appreciate you taking the time to create these.
Hi Mario, you do use the wheel a lot of the time (outside of docking) just not at low speeds in these manoeuvres. The engines alone are far more effective and responsive in these instances.
Hi Gregory, this will be determined by a number of things such as location, use, layout, options, demand based on how many are for sale at the time and so much more. If you would like to talk more about pricing please reach out to us at tmg@themultihullgroup.com
Are you using feathering props providing more or less equal thrust in forward and reverse or can you match the revs even with fixed props without having more forward than backward thrust? Thx 👍
Hi There, On this boat, we have folding props. Thrust is close to the same when comparing folding and fix props and I find that the benefits of folding props in relation to speed when sailing far outweigh any negatives.
Why did you keep changing clothes??? jk Another way I have had a twin screw manuever explained, it's like pushing a cart in a store. If you push your right forward and pull back on your left the the front of the cart will go left, and vice versa.
No, we will presume that we do not have a Bow Thruster and only one screw. Why would you keep the stern tied when it is the only place you have any control?? Use the bow or the midships (Spring) cleat. Pull forward, pivot on the rope and the stern steps away from the dock. Back away and then go on your way.

Glad it was helpful! Joe
REALLY like the "thumbs" tip. This would be required for my spouse. Lol.
Nice to see Mr. & Mrs. Fox at it again;)
Have watched several videos on this topic and yours is far the best - the drone shots really help. Can't wait for the next one.
Thanks!
This was an excellent training video
Super helpful. Love it.

Excellent training from an excellent instructor!!! Joe, best trainer for cat sailing and maneuvering.
Fantastic video, simple, clear and very well presented. Looking forward to the next one.
Thank you Mark. It will be coming out very shortly!
That was impressively helpful to understand this concept. Well done.
Brilliant explanation - this should help me leave Lefkas Marina without any embarrassment!!
Great. Thanks for refresher. Clear and complete.
Always easy with no wind!
This is fantastic because I’m going to the virgin islands and planning a bareboat on a catamaran
great video. Love the thumb on the throttle trick.
We are glad you liked it!
Very nice and helpful video - thanks a lot. Keep going on!
Excellent video! thanks a lot for making it so clear and easy! I agree wih other viewers here: by far the best video founded on the subject!
Thank you!
Thanks much, as a new Catamaran owner and still a bit nervous this came in very helpful!
We are so happy we could help!
very very informative demo - thanks
Nice video for beginners, the next step is to make a video using the throttles together with the steering.
As mentioned in this video when docking at low speeds it is always recommended to remove the steering from the mix as you will always get more manoeuvrability on a cat from throttles alone.
Can you do a video leaving a slip with the catamaran, in a confined marina?
Fantastic video! Thank you!! Really looking forward to part 2.
Thanks Francis. It is in the making!
Thanks. You make it look so easy! I think I can do it after seeing this video!
When I want to learn to sail, I'm coming to you!
Awesome demonstration!!!! Thank you!!
Awesome video!!
Thanks again!
great tips 🤙
Glad you think so!
Great videos thanks
1 question if it was very windy would you try go in a marine like in ur video

Excellent!!!!
nice chanel ! thanks
Genuis!
Perfect video.Thanks a lot body⛵️
Great content, can I just ask before you lock off the wheel, are the rudders aligned straight? I'm assuming they are but you don't say so.
Is there any limitations of speed that you can engage the engines fore or aft?
Great video, amazing editing, explanations, everything. This is very helpful and we are looking forward to the next parts.
Thank you so much! We are glad you're enjoying it!
nice. can I buy a catamaran in Miami form tmg? or any tmg agent in Miami ?
Hi there, TMG is only the Lagoon dealer for Australians. You will need to get in touch with your local dealer in Miami.
Great video, thank you.
So basically while on engine you never use wheel? I know some people do in some situations..
Hi Mario, you do use the wheel a lot of the time (outside of docking) just not at low speeds in these manoeuvres. The engines alone are far more effective and responsive in these instances.
Ok, so now I just need a catamaran :)
How much is say a 2015 lagoon 42 these days price wise!?

@@TMGYachts I'm look for a crazy starter price like near the 20s or under so a much older boat!!!!.....

A sixpence?
but no tips for docking???

Please! STOP killing 2 birds with 1 stone!
Boy you got thursters.... 🫢🧐 why don't you talk about that ? Lol talking about (throttle)
This catamaran doesn't have thrusters. However due to the fact that there are two engines the throttles are used to spin the boat.
