I’m with Isabella: there’s just not enough of a fanbase for pearl jewelry for their claim of the popularity of their products.
The whole shipping thing is a whole parade of logistics snafus waiting to happen AND the carbon footprint! Ay-yi-yi!

When I went to Hawaii in the early 80's, there were booths selling these "oysters" with pearls. You purchased an "oyster" in a can and the person working the booth would open the "oyster" in front of you and you could then make an additional purchase to have your pearl placed in a necklace. It's been around in one form or another for a long time.

This shit just boils my blood. Going after vulnerable people who need money. My mum was a single mum - taking care of three kids with a low income job. She’s pretty naive when it comes to online stuff (as most middle aged people are) and got sucked into these. She was just trying to support her kids. Threw one of those consulting parties and was so excited. It never went anywhere and I never heard her speak about it again. The money spent gone, and left her probably feeling more hopeless than she did before. It really breaks my heart thinking about it now. I didn’t know what it was then but I do now - these damn leeches using people who just needed a community or a career they could be proud of, or even just a few extra dollars a week. Mlm’s are the lowest of the low next to text n call scams.

I got shucked into one of these {see what I did there?!} and ordered a piece of jewelry from the woman in this video, Megan, the pastor’s wife. She worked for a different pearl mlm when I ordered a few years ago. She has since bounced from multiple mlm’s for the past several years. Pearls, ring bombs, hair products, and so on. Anyway, I got a “rare” blueish-green colored pearl and set it in a piece of expensive jewelry, which was required with her former company. The pearl turned black within a couple days of receiving and she quit responding to my messages. Lesson learned…these “businesses” are sketchy as sh*t!

You have to slog through months or even years of streaming with barely any viewers and even fewer chatters. And that's for the people doing it because they genuinely enjoy it! Now imagine trying to do it just to make money, and not because it's fun! You can't expect that to NOT be really really difficult for people!

I smell that dead animal and preservative smell regularly at work (teach and work in a biology lab). That smell (chemicals) lingers on your fabric and skin, so I immediately separate my work clothes and shower when I get home...imagine not having any protection and all your blankets, soft sofa, and clothes smelling like dead oysters. When I work with these chemicals or dead critters, I wear gloves and facemask in a room with surfaces you can wipe down that filters air away from me. It's not the same as the fresh oysters you can get at a restaurant - even if this is an incredible "business opportunity" to make a ton of money, bringing those chemicals into your home makes it not worth it.

One day my doorbell rang, 2 people at my door telling me that I apply for the job, yes, but why are you at my door? I've seen one of these Pearl Parties in person. Some lady set up shop on the sand/ rock area under the boardwalk on my local beach.
She had a full camera an ring light up , a table an then a box of pirate themed EVERYTHING for her stream. It looked like she raided a Halloween costume store! It was ridiculous!
So when she started shucking these clams from a bucket under the table you could see they are just sealed bags with a bit of formilin and anouther container FULL of ridiculously "collored" pearls also stashed under the table. She had a "pirate pearl" bell she would ring out on any "rare" colors/size like a maniac. She sounded like that maniac creepy over the top happy you see in child TV shows.
When she ended the video/stream I came to investigate and OMFG the smell of those opened clams! I pointed that out an one of her excuses she told me "Oh thats to kill off any perisites that can chew up the pearls an shell". .....like wut?

Since the “oysters” are already dead & just vacuum-sealed, there’s no pressure holding it together. You could open it with the back edge of a butter knife. I’d be shocked if their “shucking knife” has more edge than a butter knife. Because it’s not needed, and like you said, for liability issues.

What I can see from this is it’s a TikTok trend. If someone wants to work with formaldehyde or acetone, they can buy a bushel of 100 topneck clams for $32, do the work themselves, and sell the experience for $5, maybe $10 on TikTok and eventually make the money back without the huge MLM expectations.
You’d profiting off the trend which is more about running an actual business than being with an MLM.
Paying $160 for a starter kit of 15 oysters and someone expecting to make a decent return on that is ridiculous to me. Like no why would I want to do that.
