  • In late 2001, as part of a project for the Clark County Historical Society, Wittenberg History Professor Dr. Tom Taylor sat down with Rev. John Morrett as he shared his story of survival during World War II. Captured in May 1942, he was one of an estimated 80,000 prisoners of war forced to make the 65-mile “Bataan Death March.” Thereafter he survived two and a half years in four different Japanese prison camps and then managed to escape from a transport ship after it was torpedoed on September 7, 1944. His inspirational story of survival against all odds was shared during a Speaker Series program at the Heritage Center on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Although the Rev. John Morrett passed away in 2011, the program included portions of the interview he gave around 2000 about his experience. This is the first segment shared from that interview.
