Really wish this scoring system could be updated to a displacement or area type measurement. I have a really spindly horned buck on the wall in my shop that scores well, and I have an extremely heavy horned buck i killed hanging next to it that you would swear on your life would score way better but the spindly horned buck has him beat! Where as if it was some sort of an area or displacement measurement the heavy horned buck would score double what that spindly horned buck would! All about a true total amounts of bone on there head rather then a few tape measurements....
I despise the B&C scoring system. Drying period, and Deductions are B.S. What the deer was while living and breathing should be what the score is. Green Gross score, should be it's official numbers. Only thing I Agree with are having 2 categories. (Typical / Non typical)
I never even thought of it that way before, and you are absolutely right. the "living" animal is the measurement that should count, most definitely. good point.
I have a massive rack, multiple measuring tools, and a couple rolls of trophy tape... all sitting in the corner for like 2 years now un touched. Watched dozens of videos on how to score deer, and have still yet to figure out how to score that rack. What more do you want to know about scoring deer? Lol.
His total score is wrong. The antler they measured is 66 inches. That X2 is 132 inches of antler plus inside spread of 16 6/8 is 148 6/8. The old guy said it grossed 137 and netted 135. With 2 inches of deductions it would be 146 6/8. The antler was as follows: 24 4/8 main beam. 4 brown tine 7 g2 9 g3 6 g4 4 1/8 h1 3 6/8 h2 4 h3 3 3/8 h4 Equals 66 inches of antler on one side. That times 2 is 132. Plus Inside spread of 16 6/8 is 148 6/8. I do not get the old scorer's logic
Cant use fabric tapes for official measurement's as the fabric has the ability to stretch giving you a false reading. Hence the reason for the steel tape.
Jaden Yoder 150 inches is insane! My dad shot a 8pt buck that was actually pretty big. Just under 100 inches. I think he scored 97 3/8 iirc. (Scored at home, not official.
I found a buck skull on my property in WV. 123 inches... Is that good? (Not too familiar with deer hunting) I would be happy as hell if it would've been 140+ LOL! His age is I'd say about 4 - 4 1/2. c:
Good instructional video on how to score a deer. I just couldn't make it through the whole thing cause the constant smacking after every thing the gentleman that is scoring the deer says. Should probably spit the cough drop out before you do a video.
I'm sure you know what your talking about but this video was very poorly filmed, for us who don't know how to do this, we need to see exactly where you put the tape measure.
....because when give them all the common denominator, an eighth, you can quickly add all your scores instead of doing a conversion from half or quarter back to eighths.
Whoever decided to measure in eights should be put in prison for life this is not right. It sounds like the people who made this rule couldn’t add or subtract different denominator at all
How would you score a 9 pointer with 3 score-able points on one side and 4 score-able points on the other? Would the length of the of the extra point on the one side be a deduction? Please let me know. Thanks
LucasWerewolf it would be easier if you grew up around the metric system, learned metric system in school, and metric system was the only system you understood. In American most people don’t understand metric system because they only use the standard system, so it wouldn’t be easier for them with cm and mm.

The taller guy , the host, doesn’t have a functional right hand. I remember being amazed when I first saw home doing all the outdoors stuff he does with only one hand
7:43 When you ask a guy how the hunt went down and he responds with “ well i was in my spot he walked out and i shot him” is lying and probably killed the deer illegally 100% of the time. Still a gorgeous buck none the less
Jack B all the deductions and stuff. The antlers are only so many inches long. Two tines not being the exact same size down to the 1/8th of an inch so you subtract inches is kinda bs don’t you think?
I don't believe in deductions if a deer grew it measure it it counts ! Think of it this way if your pecker is 8inched long when hard and it bends to the left and the left side measures 7 1/2 on the left because of the bend it effing 8 inches it ain't no 7 1/2
This guy literally said 24 4/8. My man, that is 24 1/2. I get that everything has to be to the nearest 1/8th. But for real you couldn't just say half? Or the time he said 0/8ths. WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST GIVE US THE WHOLE NUMBER ALONE??? WE WOULD HAVE GOT THE POINT.
In the end, he is going to have to add/subtract all the fractions. In order to do that quickly/easily, they all have to have the same denominator (bottom number), so taking all measurements in increments of eights makes the math easier in the end.

Thank you. Love these older videos
Something my Dad always told me after shooting a buck that I thought was bigger than it was.
" you can't eat the antlers Ty"
Always nice to have a trophy lying around though
Can easily shoot yearlings not fun after u shoot them n doe for years u can eat trophy bucks not good as doe but can be eaten still ok
Can mount them sonny feel good your not shooting forks n fawns
Yeah this scoring is resulting in dumb shit happening.
You can sell them and buy food with it though 🤔
reminds me of doing taxes.
Great video! I’ve always wanted to know how to score a buck!
How to score a whitetail deer: ruclips.net/video/QbBLDosa5P4/видео.html Thanks Tony hope you also find this helpful

@@terrydonovan6888 You're entitled to your opinion just as he's entitled to his.

i find there is very little difference in the 2 scores, sometimes not even an inch on bucks in the 130 range.
Deductions are bullshit! If he grew it, score it.
I score mine by how many lbs of deer burger I get in my freezer. A nice rack to show off is a bonus.
Hell yea...boone & crockett or sci...eff off
That’s nice, why are you here then ?
I enjoyed this video and thought it was very interesting, educational and impressive..thank you my good men! 👍👍
Very informational thanks

Imagine having that one piece of the tine break off so it doesn’t score 185
WOW....
Does not matter. I have never seen anyone eat an antler.
Just a city slicker from LA that wants to know how to score deer
Dont give up. I am new to this as well.
What a great way to take the fun out of deer hunting.
I personally could careless about what my deer or your deer scores.
Why you here then??

I'd use a cloth/ fabric style tailors tape....just a tip
Cant use fabric tapes for official measurement's as the fabric has the ability to stretch giving you a false reading. Hence the reason for the steel tape.
I've never harvested a whitetail and measured it. I need more information now because this seems like someone made stuff up and ran with it.
The B&C measurement system is asinine. Don’t try and understand it just have an official measure the thing if you think it’s big enough.
Is a 150 whitetail buck good size? I hunt for meat not trophies but I still would like to know.
Jaden Yoder yeah 150 is a great buck. 120 is still a decent buck.

Correct, BC though does everything by 1/8 increments. Makes it easier to add at the end.
No, you’re the only one that doesn’t understand the logic behind recording all measurements in eighths.
Did you not hear the part where he said that deer scores are measured to the closest eighth of an inch?
Who shakes with their left hand??
Why don't people just use cm and mm ? Makes for a perfect measurement and clear for the records
So with non typical, net and gross are the same,is that the same with mulies and wt?

If that 4th point is over 1 inch: yes it is measured, recorded in column 1 or 2 and is also transferred to difference column
Austin... Yes it would be deducted
is 7&2/8" the same as 7&1/4"?
Yes
Hahahaha yup!
I was going to ask the same thing?
Yes, but you don't say it "1/4" when measuring deer.
that drives me nuts. he actually said "six and zero eighths".
In the beginning, you wrote down # of pts+ tip to tip. You dont add those #’s in too, do you?
No, the number of points, tip to tip spread and greatest spread are not added to the score. The inside spread is the only one that counts

It is
170 typical
185 non typical
160*
So if you have 5 tines on one side and 4 on the other you lose the inches the from the extra tine? why even measure it?
To get a gross score. After the takeaway is your net score.
