Floors parents being at this show….How proud they must be to see the positive and joyous effect their daughter and this incredible band has on thousands of people must be almost overwhelming for them.
    Sensory overload… Nightwish style.
They band that can call it “The Greatest Show on Earth” and deliver on all points both artistic and philosophical …just an incredible adventure in songwriting and performance

This composition by Nightwish is now part of music history. It is being taught and analyzed as a neoclassic in Universities across the globe. Symphonic Metal is a serious genre and with songwriters like Tuomas Holopainen, it has earned its position in modern music classification.

Tampere is where i was born for many ,many years ago. A beautiful town between two lakes. I saw Nightwish there 2022. Nokian areena. Floor was sick but she was fighting like hell on stage and did the show like only Floor can do. Great reaction again. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.❤

I saw a Dutch documentary about this show with Floor and her parents but can’t honestly remember her being sick.
I know that during a show in Buenos Aires she was sick but still performed. Her motto must be “The show must go on”!

@@Rackelhane oh sorry I read over the date, thinking you were referring to the concert shown in the video. I must say you were so lucky to get to see them life! They were here in Amsterdam in Dec. ‘23 but the concert was sold out by the time I knew about it. I did see Floor perform this year June as a Solo artist with the backing band from the tv show Beste Zangers that she seems to have a click with since the TV show. The show was near my hometown.

The part with Enter Sandman is all about the evolution of music: it starts with the hum of monks, Beethoven(?) and techno is played❤❤❤

To answer your question, no it wasn't Beethoven. There were pieces from Christian Petzold and J.S. Bach.

    Good job...
when Empuu played his Metallica riff and you noticed it, I got a very big smile on my face.
Since I drive to most European concerts with my camper van, I don't have to worry about a traffic jam after a concert and can soak up everything until the last moment. While everyone else is stuck in a traffic jam, I just have an after-show party in the van with a few friends in the parking lot to the music of Nightwish.

  • @rnowak85

Another great reaction! For me this is the best performance of this song. The outdoor stage with the catwalk out into the crowd, the fireworks, Floor's outfit, Troy's Irish Low Whistle, and the fact that this is Nightwish's home field (biggest city near Kitee) where they take it up a notch, just make it so much more epic. Yes you definitely heard Enter the Sandman. It was in a section where Tuomas gives a nod to the history of music. It includes snippets of the song Dies Irae, Minuet in G major by Christian Petzold, Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565 by Johann Sebastian Bach and Enter Sandman by Metallica, accompanied with a Tibetan chant.
One of my favorite parts of this song is the final two sections of the song ,The Understanding and Sea Worn Driftwood, which comprise the outro of the song and concert. The spoken word section by Professor Dawkins from his book Unweaving the Rainbow, is an incredibly uplifting and inspiring message on how rare and precious each life is. The orchestral music Tuomas has written here is stunning. It is like the soundtrack to the triumphant hero scene in a fantasy movie which fits perfectly with the idea of each of us being heros just for existing. Love the perfectly timed bow by the band to the climax of the music and then the music slowly fades to strings and the crash of waves against the shore. And then the final spoken word by Professor Dawkins reading a quote from Darwin's Origin of Species is the perfect ending to this incredibly uplifting and celebratory song.
There are a number of Nightwish songs you may want to do over the next few weeks that are part of any of the big concerts. For Tarja I would recommend Forever Yours. No live version so you have to use the studio audio only version, ruclips.net/video/d3H2nqOwBSw/видео.htmlsi=28EykgGTQffmzp4H. A gorgeous ballad that perfectly suits Tarja's voice. For Anette I would checkout The Crow, The Owl, and The Dove music video. ruclips.net/video/iyY5QMf41dk/видео.htmlsi=7KUIpJgNttFTh18A. A duet with Marko and the accompanying animated video is heart breakingly beautiful. Video was created by a fan as part of a contest by Nuclear Blast records. For Floor you should checkout Edema Ruh live from the Baltic Princess cruise. ruclips.net/video/g3fjBAhOXIM/видео.htmlsi=ehT7YhnxxIjh06S7. A beautiful song from Endless Forms Most Beautiful that has a great folky feel. This live performance was from a small acoustic set that started with Troy, Marko and Kai with Floor joining them. Song is inspired by the Patrick Rothfoss Kingkiller novels where he Edema Ruh are traveling troupes of performers who put on plays and concerts for the people. I think it is Tuomas explanation of how he see's Nightwish.

The most important moment in this video is afterwards when you see Marko walking out the runway with his arms extended. Watch it closely. He will never feel that moment of accomplishment and admiration again - and it is one reason why he said earlier this year that if Nightwish "took care of the business side of things", he would consider rejoining them in some capacity whether new music and/or touring. Let's hope that happens so he can possibly relive that moment once more.

My favorite Nightwish song and my favorite Nightwish performance! I think a natural follow-up to this one would be the "Floor Jansen in Dutch show Reunion (Tampere 2015)" documentary. It's somewhat centered around this concert.

Enter Sandman is not the only reference in that part. It is what draws people’s attention because it sounds so recognizable. But there is much more. In fact it is part of a short journey through the evolution of music. It starts with Minuet in G major by Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by snippets referencing Mozart, Bigband, Swing, Metal (yes, Metallica) and it then ends with some EDM beats. Since the song is all about evolution, Tuomas must have thought it would be appropriate to throw in some musical evolution as well. Great easter egg.

When I went to see them at Terminal 5 in NYC in 2022, I stayed until they went offstage and they turned the lights on.....
    and stayed on.
I had a 15 minute walk to the hotel I was staying at so I did make sure to leave with the last of the crowd and not by myself.

So great concert and best live of this. Yes...Emppu plays a shot part of Enter Sandman riff at the moment of the history line when they released it....there are other hints in the timeline too as well. Yes ... as a fan You MUST to know what NW originally was and also up to 5 /10 albums growing from zero to be already the leader of the genre in 2005. Only then you can understand it. Begin from 1993 with Plamen to teach Tuomas and Tarja.

For such a long song it goes really fast!! This is really the best performance , they need to put the beginning on a loop as I could listen forever. If you don`t have the BluRay ``Vehicle of Spirit`` I highly recommend it has both this concert and the Wembley concert. We should have summer festival`s like the ones in Europe with bands like Nightwish . I also think you need to do reactions to the Human Nature tour. Songs like Shoemaker and How`s the Heart, talk about goosebumps!!

Thx Nikki for reacting...you are the best...love your Nightwish Wednesdays...great final track for a epic concert...as you said the filming here and the production of their big shows in Wacken 2013,Tampere ,Buenos Aires and Wembley is outstanding.
The last 2 concerts I have been seeing Nightwish were in Bamberg and Stuttgart ...in Bamberg I left the concert while they startet to play TGSOE because I wanted to avoid the traffic driving home .
In Stuttgart a week later I stayed until the end and it is worth it .Getting chills every time during the song and at the end when they finally do AD Astra ...goosebumps every time
like somebody mentioned would be great if you could do a reaction to the Floor Jansen in Dutch show Reunion documentary ...keep on doing great reactions....

    Floor: enter LUCA
    Floor: enter Life
    Marco: enter Ionia
    Floor: enter history
    Floor: enter ratkind
    Emppu: Enter Sandman
    Human Nature: Enter music

No fireworks in the other versions of this song you watched because those shows were indoors. One of the reasons I love this version. As far as differences from Wembley, that was one. Also , Troy started with Irish Low Whistle as opposed to guitar with EBOW, and of course Richard Dawkins was at Wembley but not here.
The Wacken , Showtime Storytime DVD had the picture of the band you were referencing. Wembley and Tampere are both on the "Vehicle of Spirit" DVD.
I don't listen to this song very often either, I don't always have time for the whole thing. WE WERE HERE!!! 🤘🤘
I like to stay to the very end, don't ever want to leave early. Same with movies and sports.
Other Nightwish material? ok. A few days ago, the channel 'Tuonela Magazine' posted an interview with Tuomas on the upcoming album.
And when you do get to End of An Era, the show starts with "Dark Chest Of Wonders".

Great reaction Nikki - I like the Wembley and Buenos Aires versions, but I love the Tampere one. now, I want to "keep you fed" (😜 - see what I did here!?) - so here is a little background story for The Greatest Show On Earth copied from
@NickBR57
The band made many comments about the album and this track.
    Here's a selection:
Troy: At some point we ended up watching Richard Dawkins lectures on the internet. After a while I suggested, half in jest, that maybe we should ask Dawkins to be our special guest on the new album.
Tuomas: It was an amazing idea, and I immedia\tely started wondering if could really make it happen.
Jukka: We were naturally a bit sceptical, too - we had to try and ask him of course, but it was better not to have such high hopes. Dawkins had pretty much shied away from popular culture apart from one episode of The Simpsons.
Troy: I enthusiastically assured them that I can make this work, like "You'll see, guys". Well the next morning I wasn't feeling so confident any more and I rtemembered Tuomas and Jukka going "Told you so"
TUOMAS: Still, there was no way we could let it drop without at least trying. So we started thinking about a proper manner to approach Dawkins. We decided our best option would be to send him a hand-written, polite letter, where we would tell him about the band, the scientific themes on the forthcoming album and the fact that he had been a great inspiration
TROY: We got no reply, so we sent another letter. In the end, I guess we had a bit of luck, because it turned out Dawkins personal assistant knew the band and actually liked Nightwish. He suggested that Dawkins should take our inquiry seriously
TUOMAS: I was in Paris doing interviews for the Scrooge album. When I got back to the hotel in the evening. I noticed there was an email from Dawkins, something like, "1 went to the internet and browsed your band, and what I heard l liked very much. So I'd be happy to co-operate.
FLOOR: Tuomas sent us a triumphant message: "You won't believe what just
    M happened: Dawkins said yes!"
TROY: It was obvious from the start that Dawkins' appearance would attract a lot of attention - both positive and negative. His book God Delusion had created a worldwide controversy. after all.
JUKKA: We didn't invite Dawkins to be on our album to criticize religion but to speak as a scientist: an evolutionary biologist. Of course neither the fans nor anybody else outside the band knew it at that point.
TUOMAS: There has been a lot of unreasonable criticism hurled at him for all kinds of reasons. A lot of people seem to ignore the fact that Dawkins is also happy to listen to contrary opinions and is always open for new ideas. In that sense, he's like Esko Valtaoja, with whom we had the honour to work on Showtime, Storytime DVD.
I had endless possibilities in my hands for "The Greatest Show on Earth" What is the sound of crumpling continental plates that mountains are made of? Or the disintegration of radioactive components? Or the sound of space particles bombarding the earth? And how would I refer to immortal works of music composed by man? Well, I included shades of "Dies Irae" by Thomas Celano, "Toccata" and "Fuga" by Johann Sebastian Bach, banjo music from Western movies, "Rock around the Clock" by Bill Haley & His Comets, and "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. I was also thinking about borrowing "Sandstorm" by Darude, but in the end, we just went for an unrecognizable techno loop.
    Also Petzold and Bach.
    Recording - and Jukka Resigning:
MARCO: Kaitsu handled the drum parts admirably, so we could continue with the other instruments right away, This time we tried to concentrate on one song at a time and kept on working on it till we felt there was nothing more we could add.
TROY: And we didn't even have thunder. Rauhala does not have the best sound proofing in the world, so it would have been pretty challenging to mike the instruments if there had been rain and thunderclaps.
TUOMAS: I actually got off easier than I expected, because a lot of the demo keyboards from Hämeenlinna were good enough to be included on the album. The stuff in "Sea-Worn Driftwood", part five of "The Greatest Show on Earth", for example, was salvaged straight off the demo. In Hämeenlinna, I had explained to Tero that this passage would be about "whales singing and rats taking over the world". I had just come up with that improvised stuff, and it made it on the album
MARCO: Recording the vocals was teamwork in the best possible sense, no matter who was behind the mike. We kicked around suggestions and tried out all kinds of last minute ideas. Like, "Hey Floor, throw in some of that sweet upper octave of yours in the second verse...
    Yeah, that's a nice touch!"
FLOOR: Marco kept on surprising us. He might just suddenly say, "Wait, I have an idea!" Then he'd pull out his bass and introduce an excellent harmony
MARCO: It was great fun recording the vocals. I've never had the chance to impersonate a troglodyte in front of a microphone before, so creating gorilla sounds for "The Greatest Show on Earth" was pretty hilarious. I didn't want to undermine the majesty of the song in any way, but I didn't exactly do it with a straight face, either!
TROY: I recorded my own ape grunts at home. To get in character, I took off my shirt, banged my chest with my fists, and pretended I was an ancient Homo Erectus. I think my wife was a bit worried
MARCO: I cut my bass parts pretty quickly in about one and a half days. I even got a bit lazy towards the evening of the first day - if I had really pushed it, I might have been able to complete them in a single day.
    Notes:
The first part, "Four Point Six", is a reference to the age of our planet -in billions of years. The journey starts with a simple but persistent keyboard theme, interrupted by massive thunder claps - the origin of life that despite the murderous bombardment by asteroids, sprouts time and again and finally manages to grow permanent roots. The word "archaean" in the lyrics refers to the Archean Eon, the first of the geological eons of the world (Gaea).
The second part of the song chronicles the birth and the first on Earth. "Enter Luca" is a reference to an early life form, an acronym for the Last Universal Common Ancestor. We can make assumptions about the characteristics of Luca and other early life forms by reading the DNA of current organisms: "There's a writing in the garden, leading us to the mother of all."
Right from the beginning, one of the key characteristics of living cells has been the ability to sense their environment and react to their perceptions: "Ion channels welcoming the outside world."
In the third part, chronicling the age of man, there's a fascinating reminder: All of us current organisms are descendants of an
unbroken lineage of winners. "Not a single one of your fathers died young".
"Little Lucy of the Afar" refers to the famous fossil of Australopithecus Afarensis that was found in Afari, Ethiopia, a hominin that might have been the ancestor of man (genus Homo). In the long run, all species have the tendency to become extinct, and a fitting vision of the future of mankind is presented in the song, "One day'Il cease to be" On the other hand, man had earlier had "a dream to understand" and "[given] birth to poetry" .
He wanted to leave his mark stating "We were here!" In the fourth part, man strives to understand it all, and Richard Dawkins takes up the story once again with a surprising claim:"We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. The explanation folows shortly."Most people are never going die, because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been herein my place, but who will in fact never see the light of day, outnumber the sand grains of Sahara."
In the fifth and final part, Dawkins recites the concuding words of The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin: "From so simple a beginning, endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved."
FLOOR: I felt real good after the final rehearsals [for EFMB] in a New York studio. There were obviously many challenging parts in the set - I'd have to be extra careful in the beginning of "The Greatest Show on Earth", for example because some of the phones rise from the back of the throat but "operatic vocals are produced in the front of the mouth.
The We Were Here is familiar to you from Alpenglow earlier in the album. Tuomas deliberately cross references in songs to give fans a sort of anchor (I don't recall his exact words).

You can listen to this over-and-over and miss things. Two Johann Sebastian Bach pieces back to back, the Enter Sandman piece by Metallic played by Empuu. Also watch the screen where they've shown old footage with people dancing to the music and the robot "dancing" to the song (or at least moving to it). Also that Troy sings on this song also. That Marco, Troy, and Floor make the animal guttural sounds.

It's Enter Sandman because we are going through time. In the end we are going through time using music (hence Bach, Enter Sandman, EDM). What is also kinda cool is that you hear throughout the song:
    - Enter LUCA (last universal common ancestor)
    - Enter Life
    - Enter the god of gaps
    - Enter Ionia (philosophy)
    - Enter Ratkind
    - Enter Sandman (by playing the tune)

In most countries you cannot fire fireworks over people anymore due to possibly catching hot ash in the eye. The most common place is over water, but sometimes you see it over a field.

  • @NickBR57

Yes, Enter Sandman. Lots of other music too.
Note that fireworks versus Richard Dawkins ate not the only differences with the Wembley performance. Here we get recorded cello and Troy on Irish Low Whistle where Wembley gives us Troy with guitar and eBow. They are very different sounds.
    ----------
Troy: At some point we ended up watching Richard Dawkins lectures on the internet. After a while I suggested, half in jest, that maybe we should ask Dawkins to be our special guest on the new album.
Tuomas: It was an amazing idea, and I immediately started wondering if we could really make it happen.
Well the next morning I wasn't feeling so confident any more and I remembered Tuomas and Jukka going "Told you so"
TUOMAS: Still, there was no way we could let it drop without at least trying.
FLOOR: Tuomas sent us a triumphant message: "You won't believe what just
    happened: Dawkins said yes!"
MARCO: Kaitsu handled the drum parts admirably, so we could continue with the other instruments right away, This time we tried to concentrate on one song at a
time and kept on working on it till we felt there was nothing more we could add.
Note that this piano intro is classic minimalism. It sounds repetitive but is in fact very slowly changing.
In some ways it reminds me of Spiegel im Spiegel.
There were obviously many challenging parts in the set - I'd have to be extra careful in the beginning of "The Greatest Show on Earth", for example because some of the phones rise from the back of the throat but "operatic vocals are produced in the front of the mouth

There is a paid crew of about 50+ people that set things up, transport, operate things, etc. - HOWEVER - they hire people at every venue who assist at getting things set up who are familiar with the venue site, the legal issue (fire code, number of people in enclosed areas, emergency services, etc). All of this is planned in advance. The traveling crew (like all bands) was unemployed during COVID and had no income. Unlike most bands, Nightwish allowed their crew to get together and put out an album of NW songs sang the way the crew wanted under the name Crewish to generate income for themselves and the band promoted it for them. Didn't hear of other bands doing that for their crews.

Another great reaction. Thank you. I have a suggestion. You should also listen and react to Human Nature, their previous album and especially to Noise which I think is their best music video. They have also created great lyric videos for all the album tracks and all of them should be new to you. If you are going to react to their new album, I think it would be best to start from the previous one. After all, their 3 last albums are supposed to be a trilogy. The Endless Forms Most Beautiful album is the first part, Human Nature is the second and Yesterwynde is the last chapter of that trilogy.

I’d never leave a gig until it was over. I understand why some people might leave if it is disappointing, but otherwise, no. People who leave because of the babysitter need to book their babysitter for later. I’ve never been at a gig where I thought, “This is boring - I think I’ll leave early.”, perhaps because I only go and see bands that I want to see.

Yes, you heard 2 riffs from Emppu of "Enter Sandman". Right before that if you listen you will hear a little keyboard part from Bach's "Toccata en Fugue in D minor". Tuomas' tribute to the evolution of music from classical to metal. Brilliantly done by the Maestro. Get a note pad and jot down ideas you want to comment about. It depends on the band. Usually I stay till they leave the stage. Maybe check out some individual live performances like this one.

He was in a Celtic folk band called Iona for about 12 years just before he first started playing with Nightwish in 2007 ( He was also a much in demand session musician with a resume that reads like a " Who's Who " of 80s & 90s music )

Nightwish Wednesday became a thing on this channel cause fans of them really wanted me to listen to them, and suggested certain concerts. This time it was between End of an Era and Tampere and most people said Tampere. But End of an Era will be the next live show I do. I do need to hear Tarja with them! But very next will be song reviews/premieres for the new album. So lots of new (and new to me) stuff coming up. ☺️
