    When I was a young mom I was friends with other young moms. I hated cleaning my house and so did my friend. We made a deal that once a week we would spend one hour cleaning my house together and then go to her house and clean for one hour. She did the tasks that she liked and I did the tasks that I liked. After a while each home got spotless and we carried on the same routine for over a year. Such a great idea born out of desperation. Asking for help is so important.

    I'm still a hot mess, but the giant wall planner is a MUST for our household. We are a one-car family, 3 people working multiple jobs + school stuff so we have to know where people need to be and when. This is a game changer! I love saying "put it on the calendar" so I don't have to remember things too so it eases my mental burdens.

    I know I'm late to the video but still wanted to share that "trading services with a friend" was a huge game changer for me. My mom friend and I came to realize that, since our kids were in the same swim group anyways it didn't make much sense to go separately so once a week I clean her house for 2 hours and she takes my kids. The next week we switch. Not having children around is a great break and we get so much done, it's fabulous! plus coffee break after is already a set date 😊

    Tips for making a routine. Don't get discouraged when you write the "perfect" routine out, because you won't be able to keep it. Instead spend a couple of weeks writing down what you usually do as you do it and you will already see a natural rhythm in your day. And also breaking down the steps of one project helps too. Like if I put "laundry" on my list that's really 3-4 steps. 1. Sort and wash. 2. Switch to the dryer or hang to dry. 3. Pull it out and stack the ones that go on the hanger and the rest in the basket. And 4. Fold and pit it away or hang it up. On a regular day "Load 1" (is always clothes) happens as soon as I walk out of my bedroom, which means put it in the wash. "Switch laundry" to the dryer happens right after breakfast because that's a natural break in our events of the day and that's that's the wash finishes. I already know that I have to hang up some and put some in the dryer, so that's what happens. After the dryer stops I'm usually doing our morning pick up so I neatly stack clothes that need to be hung on my bed. With the laundry basket of laundry next to it. And "fold laundry" I put it away during our afternoon nap time or right before bed. Either way it has to be put away before I turn in for the night. And realizing that there's steps to some daily chores helps to break it down further into manageable bites to get the job done. I used to always forget the laundry in the washer, or the dryer (and not put it on to dry😅), or kick the clothes off the bed because I didn't want to deal with it. So it's definitely a habit that needs to be formed. And give yourself grace, motherhood is tough. (And to add if I do a load 2 I start as soon as I get the first wash out, but it's usually stuff I don't have to fold or hang. Like towels or sheets that have to go back to their racks or bed. Since we only keep one set for each person).

    These 5 things are really the secrets to overcoming a slob status. And FlyLady started it all for me, too. I think everyone else has copied her methods. Even her “Do it now!” motto, which I have taped over my computer desk since 2007! (But I still struggle with my routines.)

    You go, girl! Everything you said is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. We had family over for a BBQ yesterday and we were actually sitting around waiting for them to show up. The house was already clean and tidy, we'd prepped all the food (except what needed to be grilled) the day before and we were so relaxed and everyone had a great time. Thanks to you, I have a set of routines that make everything so easy. Putting my entire weekly plan on one page, plus menus, was a game changer for me (I really tried the control journal but it was just too overwhelming for me). I look at my list each morning, realize it really isn't that much to do and then I know I have the rest of the day to do as I please with no guilt. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    I already have some of my Christmas shopping done :) Getting ready months in advance for the holidays has been my thing for many years. It helps me greatly to actually enjoy the time with family and friends. And a bonus is it spreads the cost out over several months. If Christmas is at my house, I start buying gifts and non perishable foods 3 to 4 months in advance, and keep collecting as time goes by. By Christmas, no charges on my credit card. Thanks for sharing. You look like you are back in your reno'd home? 😘💐🍂🍃✝💗🇺🇸

    Steph, first of all, please don’t ever stop making videos! I , no word of lie, have past 42, planners, calendars, journals etc. I’m embarrassed to say this!!!! I keep trying all different ones with hopes, that one of them would eventually work! When I got to that number, I stopped counting because I couldn’t even believe that I had that many. I actually have past 42! I wouldn’t dare finish counting them out! But the truth is….. I don’t even make it off the first page! And I tried thinking of how I could add a spot for habits….. couldn’t think where to place it! 😂. And as for that self care thing!!!! Lol! Honey it’s way too late for that! I never thought about the word self before, honest. I had 8 children with 5 living. A little guy with Down syndrome and he was born with 3 holes in his heart, fluid on his brain, spinal cord injury and is learning to walk but will always need assistance. He’s the love of my life!!! His name is Nicholas! Back in 2013, I had a emotional, physical and mental breakdown . I ended up being diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety and was told that my Serotonin Level bottomed out. Then found out I had the breakdown , lost my homestead, found out my husband is a narcissist, my mama died, my set of twin girls-only one survived. Lost my marriage and the girl I thought was one of my closest friends and she ended up hanging with my husband and so lost my husband and marriage of I believe 30 yrs. Lost my vehicle which I couldn’t drive until I kinda had to learn parts of that over. My baby boy 6 weeks old died a week before Christmas and went through a funeral and that was traumatic. And mento pause all within a few years of each other. Wow please please forgive me… all I wanted was to know how to I guess, start over. Steph, no stop overs for you, when God calls you home honey, ur goin straight up for puttin up with this one! lol 😂.

    Your weekly planner sheet has been a total lifesaver this summer. I was in a car wreck and got a nasty concussion. I wasn’t able to go to work or even remember why I walked into a room. That sheet helped me ask for help because I could plainly see what needed doing. I’m recovering nicely and still love having everything on one page. Is there a changeable version of the sheet? I want to add bathrooms to my Mondays. So far, I just draw a bubble and write it in but your font is so pretty. 💚 I love the peek into the house. Beautiful door choice.

He is a psychologist from Quebec and he made a video on the big five personality traits and one of them correspond as what you called naturally organise and it’s consciensosité in French or conscience in English. It’s a continuum so you can be high on a trait and low on an other trait. Nothing wrong but différent so the routines you propose is a good way to progress on conscience traits but no more shame or guilt to be what we are just accept and move on taking ways to get better on what we want!so thank’s for the five ways to progress

    For those with older kids, Instead of doing a wall calendar, I highly recommend just using a calendar that can be accessed by multiple people. I have 1 calendar that is synced between all of our phones. It takes a bit of training at first to make sure they are putting the events on that particular calendar and everyone sees it, but it isnt complicated after that. They want to make plans with friends, sorry, we have chiropractor appointments that day. What about this other day, we are free then. 9 times out of 10 the other kids have no clue and my kids wind up going back and forth with the parents. They know where other family members are and can readily tell other parents (we are a two household family) if there are plans or when they are scheduled for various appointments. We do a check in on schedule when they get home for the week to make sure everything is entered or if there are questions or needs for vehicles to be available at x point in time and such.

    For me this prep ahead of time is soo important. I'm always late bc every single day I'm running like a mad woman serching for keys. • @debbiep7419
      @debbiep7419 Год назад +9

      There's no shame in being disorganized. We were all there once. And if we find ourselves there again, we just jump back in to get back on track. Start with just a few things and add more once you've mastered a few. I was the same as you with keys and that's actually where I started improving. Choose a HOME for your keys today and discipline yourself to always put them there as soon as you walk in the house (and if that home doesn't work for you, choose a new one and try again). It'll take some practice but you will get there. As soon as your kids get home from school, check their uniforms and start laundry immediately if needed. Set a timer to remind you to take them from the washer and hang them to dry so they are ready for the next day. Timers and alarms really helped me as I would get distracted and forget to do things (I even name my alarms so I remember what they were set for). You can do this!

So next yr, I paid extra for one extra white uniform skirt and one more colored uniform set. Now I do school uniform plus docks etc once a week. And that's all. No scrambling in middle of the week to wash dry and iron.

    Steph, I also use the Flylady system and it has made keeping my home clean an tidy soooo simple. I have often thought it could help me with getting my eating on track. Would you have a recommendation on how to adding healthy eating habits into the system?

      Hi Mary, I think it could too, adding in meal planning and meal prep helps me to avoid ordering pizza all the time, if that counts!

      @@TheSecretSlob Love that. I can see where I could add those into my plan day and meal prep on Sunday in order to have healthy options available during the week to choose from. Thanks so much for your help as always. I got started a few years back on Flylady after seeing one of your videos, so thank you for that too!!!!!

      @@marysusa6985 One thing I'd suggest is to figure out which days you'll already finding it easiest to cook, and adding some extra meal prep there. This could mean doubling the recipe to make a whole extra meal for dinner later in the week (yes, people really can eat the same thing a couple of days later- and if they complain, they can be invited to take over the cooking 😉). Or cook one extra element of the meal to use in a different way later - brown a lot of ground beef to use for chili tonight, and save a couple of portions to freeze for later use in spaghetti sauce, lasagna or chili again. Baked chicken breast on salad tonight, but served again after soccer practice with rice and some kind of canned / jarred sauce. Or you could even make two meals at the same time - throw the ingredients for split pea or some other minimal ingredient soup into the crock pot to simmer, while you make tonight's meal. By the time you've eaten and go to clean up the kitchen, the soup is ready to be served into containers for take to work lunch, and the pot is ready to wash up with everything else. Or make a quick quiche (frozen pie crust or no crust) and throw it in the oven while you prep tonight's more elaborate meal, knowing that all you need is a bagged salad or some frozen veg to turn it into tomorrow's dinner.

    With the help if my fiance I just decluttered ALL of my papers that I had collected over the past 10 years. 3 bags of trash! From old bank statements to insurance papers. Although I felt good initially, I ended up having two panic attacks and a night without any sleep because my mother has always told me to "collect everything official". I think it will be a great decision in the long run but I didn't expect it to scare me to an extend where I get panic attacks on possibly throwing something important away...

    • @pjp9383
      @pjp9383 Год назад

      Hi Jill. I have both been the friend who helps, and the friend who needs the help. I still struggle at times with letting people see the reality of how I live, but whenever I've reached the point of reaching out, I've never regretted it. And I've never judged the friends who have asked me.
      One idea I have seen someone else suggest elsewhere is the idea of trading off with a friend. Setting aside a day and time to spend one hour at your place cleaning together, and then another hour at their place. Each person takes care of the chores they prefer to do, and you not only have company and encouragement, you also have an instant accountability buddy! You could try looking into the idea of "body doubling" for more info about why this works. There are even websites like Focusmate that pair you up with a virtual body double, like on a Zoom call, where you each quietly work on your own tasks, but have a check in at beginning and end of session to help keep you accountable. (Free for up to 3 sessions a week - you can get a lot done in 3 hours over the course of a week!)
