California allows any color Byrna. I'm in los Angeles and ordered Black and have the email confirmation that black is acceptable in my area cause I asked upon my purchase. Max and pepper projectiles are not allowed.
I work as Armed Security in CA and the Byrna site allows me to buy Pepperball and CS rounds because I emailed them my guard card and also my chemical card as well to show them proof that I can use those. When I go to my account on the Byrna page, I click the CA certified Byrna products and it shows me the different kinds of kits to allow me to buy
I love that Byrna worked with the State of California to allow residents to take the BSIS Chemical Agent Certification exam so we could also use the Pepperball and Max rounds for self defense. Hopefully I'll never need them, but if the situation comes up when defending my home and family, at least the option will be there. Although after talking to a Lieutenant at my local police station, he recommended not using Pepperballs rounds inside the house as the powder is almost impossible to clean up, especially out of carpet and upholstery which means you'll be smelling it for months even if you deep clean with a vacuum I might stick with a 7 round magazine of Kinetic rounds in the house.

Not quite right for Massachusetts. It’s true that pepper and Max balls can’t be shipped there, but they are able to be used as long as you are over 18yo. You could also carry it, open or concealed, without a license. The Byrna would be legal but neither the OC/CS nor the OC only rounds are legal- While AK allows OC/CS, the state law says must be a"container" (meaning an aerosol can as the statute specifically mentions guns and grenades which dispense chemical agents as being illegal for civilians) of 150 cc (5 oz) or less of chemical, unless used by law enforcement or a bank.
