Guys... it mirrors This Will Be The Day
Does it? Or does it temper "This Will Be the Day" This Will Be the Day is largely a celebration of what's in store as warriors are born from the small and helpless children. While this intro seems to be a tempered realization that the day they've waited for (changing the status quo) won't actually be coming. As such, trust to the bonds made and push forward with the strength you have.
And it's the least catchy RWBY theme by far! The openings got worse and worse after Volume 4

What callbacks? I figured out one potentially likely one, but any others I could figure out seem too vague and generic to be specifically referencing This Will Be The Day.

I'm honestly not, I'm just genuinely curious about what others found but I'm not very good at conveying emotional implications through text alone.
You know it’s been now six years since I followed RWBY as a series. This openings already seeing the characters grow up and age the same age I am is so breathetaking. It’s like when a show that I follow does that to me it’s like I grow up with it. Seeing the new character designs was both nostalgic and make me realize oh my God, I’m a full grown young adult, while the main characters are all young adults like me now. This is my favorite intro it feels like a breathe of fresh air over how well this series progressed for me.

I love this song, it just feels so genuinely different from all the other themes. Every other theme except Let's Just Live has a very similar music style, but I really like how upbeat this one feels in comparison.

It's like we've gone back to the naive optimism of This Will Be the Day. That scares me for our characters, but I wouldn't mind a return to Time to Say Goodbye or When It Falls.

After everything that's happened, I think a bit of optimism is deserved.
They're essentially just making up their plan as they go along now, have no clue as to how they're going to even potentially accomplish their end goal, and are stuck without their best hope for making an effective plan because he's locked himself away, most likely in a heavy state of depression and grief due to his own personal failures caused by a fate which was unfairly thrust upon him.
After dealing with all that for a whole volume I think it's time for a bright spot in their story.

I love how this song is an inverse version of 'This Will Be the Day.' The first opening talks about rising and achieving your dreams while this one says that the day they waited for won't come, but the will still will be able to achieve what matters most if they trust love and believe in themselves, and even going as far to say that just believing alone is all that is needed for them to have a good life. This show has come so far, and I look forward to seeing what other meanings 'Trust Love/Open Up Your eyes' has for the volume!
When they cycled through designs in the intro I got chill because i have been watching this show for literally half my life and it felt like I grew with these characters
If they have a volume ten, they will probably change it again. It seems to be on a three volume cycle, but who know, they may break it later.

I’m really loving how whimsical this opening is! It reminds me of how the first two volumes of RWBY were.
Well Monty/Miles/Kerry always did said yes the story is going to be dark at times but it’ll never lose that fun fantasy aspect.

How are the lyrics of RWBY always so relatable?
I started watching S4 just as my father died... RWBY helped me put that trauma in perspective. Now I'm dealing with people in growth phases that don't quite match mine and are bound to hurt and leave me no matter what I do, but at least are growing positively, so I'll "trust love". I love this show so much because it's always spoken to my current pains.

Just by this I can tell that Volume 7 is going to be my favorite volume!
So between "But in time through love your power will shine" and "when we trust in love and we opwn up our eyes" this whole love thing is in reference to silver eyes right? As well it talks about a "romantic life" and a "world full of charm" well we've heard that imagery in This Will Be The Day (I don't remember if that's its name or not) "You want a romantic life, a fairytale that's full of charm" which was how Ruby saw the life of a huntsman (romanticised as a great hero to conquer the evil), but now she's living as a huntress and she knows it's not like that. As well we hear about "Hoping that a lightning bolt, is gonna save you from this gravity" well again in This Will Be The Day they proclaim that "We are lightning" so is this a slight at the rest of the civillians that are just waiting for someone to rescue them instead of rising up?
I dunno that's just what I came up with while listening to it on repeat haha

Also what do you think about the new character designs? Personally I think Nora looks cute, yang doesn't seem too different from just a new fire dress, and I can always appreciate them thighs of Blakes. But besides from that, not the biggest fan of the new designs.
Tbh I like Weiss and Blake's a lot it's just I wish Blake's hair was a it more curly at the bottom like how it was in the promo poster as opposed to it being straight, her hair always seemed a bit esvey to me do it's something to get used to, I like yangs bomber but that's just about it, I like Ruby's except the hair really but Ren looks cool, I liked how Nora looked before and Jaune looks the same
Jaune does definitely not look the same! But yeah, I don't think any of the new designs are bad. Just prefer the old ones. Blake with short hair is definitely gonna take a looooong time to get used to for me, but hopefully I'll get used to it someday. It gives her a more cute vibe, which is completely different from how I saw her, but I'm curious as to wether or not they have reasons to change their looks, or was it just done on a whim completely outside of any story revelation.
To me, the most world moving change was Jaune. I just could not believe it when I saw the intro.
Tbh I'd even prefer Blake if her hair was more of a sexy slick almost bowl cup, you know how you'd see the bad ass female assassins wear it and they have like a long bang or something, something like fiora from league of legends
Ryan W that would actually be pretty interesting to see. Personally, I would like to see someone make a artwork where she has cinders hair style. Someone's probably already made that, just can't find it. I think if anyone would be able to rock that sexy assassin hair style it would be yang. There's so many different hair styles I'd like to see on so many characters. I'm a bit of a character design fanatic you see.

That bit right there gives me chills. The way Casey and the band are harmonizing has me shook. It radiates with energy from Queen's "Somebody to Love" where Roger just fucking nails the high note before the bridge and the band just goes full harmony. Or like the part right after the bridge in Welcome to the Black Parade.
I love this opening, and its probably my favorite out of any of them. PURELY for the way the melody just harmonizes

I don't know about y'all but I really dig the Noire feel of Mantle... The worldbuilding in this first episode is already more than last volume and it just looks so good, can't wait to see what Atlas will look like... Also everything else in this episode is a way better start than the previous volumes wich didn't really hit you in the face with new stuff or excitement, I hardly remember the first episode of the last 4 volumes... I remember volume 2 opened with the food fight and volume 1 introduced Ruby and the main badies in a cool way but other than that the best thing I remember was that Volume 4 started with a calm after the storm that I liked but then Volume 5 is just a blur and Volume 6 was ok but didn't get me until the last 3 episodes and that Apathy side plot
