I own the blue dial 38mm AT and have owned multiple Datejusts in the past. The only advantage the Rolex DJ has over the AT is the bracelet. The lack of micro-adjustments in the AT is a massive shortcoming. But the Omega wins in everything else. The AT also comes out ahead in that it looks much better on a strap than the DJ.
Nice video. Love that white dial. I honestly think if this model’s case was about 1.5mm thinner and the bracelet had an on the fly adjustment, it would be pretty much perfect.
Try it, using the half link I have the perfect fit. Never too lose or too tight. The old quartz (before that dumbed down the markers) was thinner, cheaper and the perfect go to watch. I even wear it over the aqua terra skyfall (nicer but flashy when the occasional calls fir it )
I agree 100%. with both points, but mainly wanting it thinner. I've tried the white dial on three times now, and each time it's the thickness that puts me off. I like a thin watch, or a watch that wears thin anyway. I have the new Speedmaster and, on paper, it's a bit thick (but not really for a chronograph), however it doesn't wear thick at all.
The more I find out about the AT the more I like it, despite the garden fence dial. My preference would be for the 41 mm though... it has the independently adjustable hour hand found in the Rolex and Tudor GMT models but without the professional watch styling. An excellent review, thank you 😊
I heard something the other day that I think is becoming true... Rolex is no longer a retail brand. They have become aspirational and now pick who their customer is, and who it is not. I can afford a Rolex even with the crazy secondary-market prices, and I still go with Omega. Seamaster, Speedmaster, and have an Aqua Terra on order in white/siler with the tan leather strap. And I have an order in for a new Seamaster 300 in the green dial and all of that for less than a Submariner. Four great watches and none of the Rolex BS.
Omega will never surpass Rolex in sales, value retention or prestige. Rolex makes iconic watches that are timeless, and don't need to make 200 different models to see what is the flavor of the month. If you don't want to deal with the wait list or paying gray Market prices, go and buy a Santos de Cartier. Which are more iconic, versatile and elegant than Omega.
Agreed that it's 12.4mm. I have the 38mm AT and have measured with my digital calipers. It also wears a bit thinner than 12.4 because it has a slightly domed crystal. At the edge of the crystal it measures about 11.8mm thick.
Of all the valid reasons you mentioned, I think the biggest difference that cannot be overstated is Omega's 6 o'clock beautiful date window compared to the Rolex 3 o'clock date with that tumor of a cyclops. I've had a number of Rolexes with cyclops date windows and they just are an eye sore for me. They drive me crazy because they are only functional if you are holding your watch at a direct awkward angle for you to perfectly see the date. You can't just simply glance at your watch and read the time and date in one quick shot.
The Omega A T is a very nice watch. Whichever size you pick, you'll like it. I chose the slightly larger 41mm watch with the white dial and rubber strap. I thought that was the best option.
@@modmod392 they do it on the larger world timer but not on the standard large and midsize options. I’m also not a fan of the bracelet, don’t like polished centre links or butterfly clasps. It’s so close to being in my collection if those points were improved.

YES finally! Its about time someone that did a video on this. There are way too many touting the Aqua Terra as an Explorer Alternative which it clearly is not since it has at date complication. An alternative to the Date Just though? Absolutely. I currently own the black dial version of this watch unfortunately leather and rubber strap options don't offer an option for a smaller wrist so I went with the bracelet.....and yes anything is a more interesting choice than a Rolex. I swear they are now the watch for rich people that don't know or care about watches the just want something flashy on their wrist.
Gorgeous, bit flashy for me - getting the Railmaster in next couple of weeks. Date just looks like an old man's watch to me - & I'm over 50!! Good video thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
I have the current Railmaster, which is a 40mm version of the Aqua Terra done full casual (all brushed, nothing polished, dial that isn't flashy, etc). I did not like the bracelet. It doesn't have microadjusts, only half links, and I'm exactly between sizes. I can make the bracelet either a bit too tight or a bit too loose. So I put a nice sailcloth strap on it and love it now as a casual watch. Super under the radar. Only a watch guy would know what it is and what's under the hood. The Aqua Terra in general is great, albeit with that bracelet issue. It has one huge benefit over the Rolex - you can actually buy one. If you've got the cash, you can get whichever one you want, probably same day.
If it helps, I learned that the "half links" for the 38 mm Aqua Terra are actually a bit over half the size of the full links, and once I learned this I was able to get a combination that fit me perfectly. Before I realized that my previous sizing attempts ended up either too loose or too tight. Not sure if this is also the case for the Railmaster bracelet's half links.
I wear my Diver 300 daily for work and normal day. It’s versatile and easy to fit the outfits. The bracelet buckle has micro adjustable option which AT doesn’t offer. Both are the great watches and I am going to collect the AT Worldtimer too.
I bought the small second on rubber and its one of the best cross watches between sport/boat/dress ever made! The aqua terra is better than any Rolex because ROLEX has turned its brand into a snob infested oh look at my 15k submariner that i don’t even like but have because it’s the cool thing these days watch! That’s why omega is just BETTER
The design and colour combination on that white Aqua Terra is perfect. Just wish it was 40 or 41mm. Their other white 41mm isn't the same. It has orange colour in the mix which gives a whole different vibe.
I really can’t decide between the Datejust and this exact same configuration Aqua Terra. The white dial and the leather strap makes the Aqua Terra look pretty dressy and nice imo.
I love the design and I've owned an 8900 version. But why don't they lume the minute hand properly? It gets lost among the indices in the current, just-the-tip design.
To be clear, I’ve never thought about being noticed, receiving or looking for compliments, it was just what I observed. It’s interesting though how many people assumed that. Maybe think on that a bit and what it might say about your thought process. I’ve never looked for compliments on anything, including my career as a musician. In fact, as an introverted person, any interaction like that makes me very uncomfortable and usually I don’t know the proper way to respond so it is often awkward. If a compliment was given about my watch my reflex was usually immediately covering it with my other hand and mumbling some kind of “thanks”. I even said it was a fake once.
PSA: If you buy this piece with any other strap and decide you want the gray strap also, Omega sells it on their site…..for $610 !!! - So yeah, maybe shop Watch Gecko and buy a few 19mm and save.
The Aqua Terra costs more than the 300M at MSRP. That makes no sense to me and I think that should be reversed. Anyone find that the Aqua Terra’s higher price is justified compared to the 300M? If so I’d love to know your thoughts.
Better movement (supposedly), rhodium plated hands and indices could be the two major factors. Saw them side by side at an AD. The AT screams luxury. Much more versatile. Lives up to the 'one and done' formula.
If you compare 41 mm size for size, with Aqua Terra you also get 60 hours of power reserve and more importantly quick hour hand set function which makes it a good travel watch unlike Datejust.
yup own the blue dial :) and own your 19mm sailcloth bought just for this watch, but too long! if you bring out a shorter 19mm sporty strap id be the first to buy! keep up the good work

@@rebeccawarren2976 looking forward to mine! On hindsight, I guess I should've just picked one up on Chronext. Not to mention its a couple of hundred bucks cheaper there.
It's nice in 38mm, but then you lose the hour jump of the 41mm. The AT is certainly "sportier". "Youthful" is perhaps an appropriate choice of words. With the average age of a Rolex owner now past the regular age of retirement, they really need that ugly cyclops at every opportunity. ;-) Personally, I feel the Globemaster 39mm is a little more akin to the DJ, and benefits from the 8900 movement to boot. A little more expensive, and one might say a little more "staid", but if you're going up against the quintessential "old man" watch, maybe not a bad thing.
Aqua terra is not a sleeper, it just another one of the 200 models that Omega has to put out there to find out what the flavor of the month. Rolex surpasses Omega in sales, value retention, iconic recognition, and prestige. For that matter, so does Cartier also.
Omega lost its spot to Cartier- its going to keep losing market to TUDOR/BREITLING in the future for pricing itself out and making watches that are too thick. Omega aqua terra was an amazing alternative but now its priced itself out by a lot.
Tudor is (over confidently) adopting the same Rolex sales strategy. “We look for ppl who own multiple Tudors bf offering the BB Chrono”. Wha!? Ok..No Thx.
Beautiful, but I have to say (unless I’m crazy) your lighting on this is quite misleading. It looks like the dial is a cream/beige color and the indices are also different than the actual watch when looked up online. Everything is far more white & gray. Still gorgeous, but doesn’t seem quite like what’s being shown here. Please correct me if I’m mistaken. Excellent vid otherwise!
So, how it's going, rolex owners throw away their watches and ran to the omega stores to buy aqua terra? It's a good watch but OMG! Rolex killer! it's not serious😂
I own and am wearing an Aqua Terra Master Chronometer and previously owned a Datejust which I also wore all the time. Unfortunately no matter how many positives you point out for the Omega, the case and bracelet of the Rolex is so much better that after a few months of wearing, the Omega can’t compare with the Rolex’s overwhelming superior quality of stainless steel and other visible material. Wish this weren’t the case, honestly. But when I wore the Rolex I often received compliments, even before they knew it was a Rolex, but I’ve been wearing my Omega for over two years and have yet to get a compliment, never got even one. And the bracelet looks beat. So no matter the effort, Omega will always be an also-ran compared to Rolex unless they develop much better materials, especially the stainless steel.
I hear you, but perhaps it had more to do with the particular dial and colorway on each than the brand. Also, the only person who comments on my watch is my wife, and even then it’s only when I ask her! But trust me, I’m not defending Omega, because I love Rolex too.
As an owner of a 39mm globe master I understand where you’re coming from. I chose mine for the all satin bracelet, the dial design and the movement. But with ownership you start seeing misperfections in the way the bracelet wears, don’t taper and hug the wrist enough the way that a Rolex bracelet does. Plus the movement on the 38 mm is the inferior 8800 compared to the more advanced 8900 while Rolex uses their flagship movement also in the 36mm watches. Omega can do way better if only they understand what needs to be done regarding dimensions designs and wearability, instead they release monstrous unwearable 44mm seamaster chronogrraphs
I don't know where you took the watches you compared, however I got my 38mm Aqua Terra face to face with a 39mm Explorer and I can agree win you only with the bracelet part. Rolex's one has that something more that makes it feel more solid, but for sure it doesn't justify the price difference. On the other hand I find the finishing of the case of a better quality in the Seamaster, compared to the Oyster case, especially in the quality of the polished sections. In the Aqua Terra you can see your reflection clearly without distorptions everywhere, while in the Rolex you can do it only in the center section of the case, moving to the lugs it looses quality quickly and you can't see yourself anymore. I don't even comment the compliments part: clearly you are just a Rolex fanboy and not a watch enthusiast, I even doubt you have ever owned and Omega at this point.
@@williamcoolidge9884 I've got a 6.5 inch wrist and looks perfectly fine to me, they are a little on the long side but it's a pilots watch, the iwc mark 18 has longer lugs.

This could be The perfect watch. It's a bit thick, but still...
My only negative is the bracelet with No micro-adjustment ! 🤨
I have the 38 in silver dial and it is actually 12mm thick. I dont know why so many sites get this wrong
@@TurnRiver They are quoting the 41mm thickness for the 8900 movement. The 38mm and 41mm AT's are not the same thickness. The 38mm is very reasonable. It's unfortunate that this misinformation gets out there because the 38mm is not too thick.
@@williamcoolidge9884 I've tried it on (several times), and I actually think it's a bit too thick (for my tastes). Otherwise it literally would be a perfect daily watch for me.
It seems you have to wait even for Omega these days. A very popular watch dealer from London told me i will have to wait up to 12 weeks before i put my hands on my brand new Aqua Terra 38.
That doesn't tally with my experience. We filmed this at a Fraser Hart store where all the Omegas in the video are in stock and ready to purchase. I'd try a few other dealers if I were you! - James
Just happened to me. This exact white dial 38mm was out of stock across 5 ADs in my country. I ordered the watch and paid for it but I have to wait 8-12 weeks.
@@Nahduge I collected my Omega in late October, I had to wait but it's absolutely a perfect every day watch.
@@rebeccawarren2976 looking forward to mine! On hindsight, I guess I should've just picked one up on Chronext. Not to mention its a couple of hundred bucks cheaper there.
@@rebeccawarren2976 by the way, how many weeks did you end up waiting?
It's nice in 38mm, but then you lose the hour jump of the 41mm. The AT is certainly "sportier". "Youthful" is perhaps an appropriate choice of words.
With the average age of a Rolex owner now past the regular age of retirement, they really need that ugly cyclops at every opportunity. ;-)
Personally, I feel the Globemaster 39mm is a little more akin to the DJ, and benefits from the 8900 movement to boot. A little more expensive, and one might say a little more "staid", but if you're going up against the quintessential "old man" watch, maybe not a bad thing.
Great video!
Aqua terra is not a sleeper, it just another one of the 200 models that Omega has to put out there to find out what the flavor of the month. Rolex surpasses Omega in sales, value retention, iconic recognition, and prestige. For that matter, so does Cartier also.
To kill a Rolex, it needs to be thinner.
Thickness 13,5 mm! Thirteen and half millimeters!?!? Does it have a built-in nuclear power plant?
Lmao true that. It's a simple three hander, at this price point it should be 10-11mm.
It is 12.4mm with a domed crystal. It does not wear thick.
I prefer Omega over Rolex
I would say it's more similar to an Explorer than Datejust.
Really? The Explorer has no date and a 3/6/9 numerals on the dial, brushed case and bracelet..... I think the AT is much closer to the Datejust.
Omega lost its spot to Cartier- its going to keep losing market to TUDOR/BREITLING in the future for pricing itself out and making watches that are too thick. Omega aqua terra was an amazing alternative but now its priced itself out by a lot.
The number one reason the AT is better: it doesn’t have an ugly cyclops on the crystal. 😅
Beautiful 🥰
Love love love this watch.
Tudor is (over confidently) adopting the same Rolex sales strategy. “We look for ppl who own multiple Tudors bf offering the BB Chrono”. Wha!? Ok..No Thx.
Omega always Omega
Beautiful, but I have to say (unless I’m crazy) your lighting on this is quite misleading. It looks like the dial is a cream/beige color and the indices are also different than the actual watch when looked up online. Everything is far more white & gray. Still gorgeous, but doesn’t seem quite like what’s being shown here. Please correct me if I’m mistaken. Excellent vid otherwise!
You're right, but where we shot this the lighting was very yellow. - James
38mm is not my wrist
Ive got both. Both great watches, but Rolex is Rolex, the King. Aqua Terra second best.
Datejust killer?? Lol I strongly disagree.
What gives the Rolex the edge in your opinion? - James
I sold my two Datejusts and still own (and wear) my 38mm AT. Omega for the kill!
So, how it's going, rolex owners throw away their watches and ran to the omega stores to buy aqua terra? It's a good watch but OMG! Rolex killer! it's not serious😂
this looks like a Grand Seiko
If you want compliments then stop relying on your wristwatch to get them!
If you’re wearing luxury watches for compliments, then stop it cuz one day you’ll get one and find the watch missing on your wrist buddy ;)
The aqua terra is overpriced imo, the Longines spirit is just as good but costs a lot less.
The lugs on the Longines Spirit are insanely long. It looks completely weird on wrist. I've tried it.
@@williamcoolidge9884 I've got a 6.5 inch wrist and looks perfectly fine to me, they are a little on the long side but it's a pilots watch, the iwc mark 18 has longer lugs.
Come on man they are not in the same league
@@Marco-kn8rg only the movement on the omega is better.
Cartier best Omega in sales, let alone try and compete with Rolex.
You must be struggling with content to bring another lame click bait video.
The movement is a big crap
This Omega looks like a wannabe Rolex Date just
Thickness is not 13.2 cm its 12.2 cm, but love the review..
