How I made this doghouse for my husky for under $100!

  • Check out how I created this simple DIY custom dog house for my Siberian Husky Ghost for under $100! He does not like the water, and I wanted a cool place for him to be able to get out of the sun while we are hanging out down by the pool.
    I am not an expert woodworker by any means, but I am extremely satisfied with the way that this build came out. The only thing I have left to do is stain, or paint and seal it. I am not quite sure how I want to finish it yet. If you have any suggestions please leave them in the comment section.
    Material List

    Wooden Siding (the 4 sides of the house)
    Scrap Poplar (to frame the windows/Doors)

    My big pup likes a ton of room. He loves having space. He’s a 100 lb German Shepherd and I’m going to measure his XXL crate and make his future home that size with your instructions. Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve looked all over the place online for a house big enough for him and everything is way overpriced and not wide or tall enough for him to walk into. After seeing him ignore his igloo shaped home, I’m now going to fly to Home Depot and finally make him a custom home! Our dogs deserve a safe and comfy home too!! ♥️🐶🐶♥️

    • @thewoodworkinghusky3284
      @thewoodworkinghusky3284  3 года назад

      The angle was kind of arbitrary! When I was designing it, I just picked something that I thought looked nice. I believe the front legs were about 3" taller (don't quote me on that, I can't find the sketch I had for this), but what was important was the back was slightly taller than Ghost!

    Hi there! Love this house! How did you determine the angles for the 4 vertical side pieces? You mentioned 2 were longer and 2 were shorter. I have a Ryobi Compound Saw as well and beveled my ends but now the roof placement doesn’t match the angles (if that makes sense). Any suggestions?

    • @inspectrgajit
      @inspectrgajit Год назад

      Just cut all of the angles at the same time at 5 to 10 degrees, then you'll just have to play with the length of your short sides until the line up to the back slope. Use a 2x4 clamped between the front to back to find your proper height and angle of slope!

  • @mark.brewster
    @mark.brewster 3 года назад +1

    How were you able to figure out which angle to cut the wood that holds up the roof? Is there a calculation or did you eyeball it. Since the back legs are shorter than the front legs.

    • @thewoodworkinghusky3284
      @thewoodworkinghusky3284  3 года назад +1

      I created it in Sketchup first - What I did was measured the high part of the angle, and the low end of the angle, connected it with a straight line, and cut it with the circular saw. Rinse and Repeat for the other legs.

    first you need like $1,000 for just the tools before you can spend $100 on the materials

      I used the tools I had at my disposal, you can definitely use minimal tools for this (hand saw, hammer, nails) no problem.

    • @thewoodworkinghusky3284
      @thewoodworkinghusky3284  3 года назад +2

      Fair point - under $100 in materials. However this could be done with at least a drill, and hand tools. Would definitely take longer to do, but can still be done! Best part about this hobby - more than one way to do something!

    Two mistakes the house needs 4 legs to be little in air for the house to be dry not get wet in rain and no need of windows because wind will go in house if you add some plastic seetru in windows its ok all outher is perfect

    • @thewoodworkinghusky3284
      @thewoodworkinghusky3284  3 года назад +2

      Yeah I definitely should have left a bigger gap between the bottom of the legs and the floor so water doesn't get soaked up and rot the wood - I definitely could have done the windows differently, but I like how they came out aesthetically with them being open!
