Yes! I haven't seen the full video yet but YES, we need some honest reviews... I feel like everyone's review of every kind of product has been bought lately!
I can share her feelings with Arteza in a way... the TwiMarkers, which I too purchased with my own money as a Mother's Day Gift to myself...was not the nicest brush markers I've come across...
I feel like with Arteza at least. One, they are giving free supplies and sponsorships to channels that use a lot of supplies in that quality range and tend to focus more on quantity. These channels are also more illustrative and are run by younger adult artists. Not saying that these channels are less than other channels though, just that their audience is different and is looking more for cheap and plentiful supplies than small quality sets. I also feel that because they are either getting the sets for free or being paid to make the video that they aren't considering the quality FOR the price. The are viewing and reviewing the products in isolation.
Haha I have had some wild sponsorship offers, from sexy body pillows (I wanted one but didnt know how I could face doing a video!) to beauty products, to gambling apps. It's mad!!
My review of the review. I bought this set, and swatched them just today. I have worked with Holbein, W&N and Schminke, and I actually thought these were in between student grade and the artist grade gouache. I plan to use them mainly for practice, so I think they could be a great set for that, as they are affordable compared to say, Holbein. I actually liked the consistency and the colors, and they were quite opaque, as gouache is supposed to be. I think a true beginner or student would do well to get a smaller set of the primary colors in order to learn to mix their own colors, but this would be a fun set for anyone, because even professionals like to just goof off sometimes. Also, I am new to your channel so am not sure if you use gouache much, but it seems just from this video that you were using them more like you would a watercolor. By adding too much water it kind of defeats the purpose of the gouache, which is opacity, which is why they are used in illustrations so much. Used as a true gouache would be used, just adding enough water for a creamy consistency, you get their intended quality. Anyway, I do like them very much and am going to use them for practice, as I am not sure in lightfastness. Also, I could do without the pearlized ones, as I don’t think I will use them. I would have been happier to have those same colors non-pearlized. You are an adorable couple, btw.
Schmincke 's "sap green" is also more of a "grass green" for some reason. I always turn to "olive" when I need my poop green fix. One time I went to an art store looking for "sap green" in different supplies (LOL WHEN I SENT THEM TO YOU) and the worker scolded me about "sap green" being a made up color so there's no real consistent or official color. Fair enough, but the variety is ridiculous! Can we just agree sap green is a nice way to say "poop green"?!
@moon_spectre_ some colors go by pigment name and single pigment colors are generally the same. You know what to expect from Ultramarine and the pthalos. Lemon yellow is always the same etc

I really appreciate this kinda of video where u guys discuss the ethics of sponsorship, and I also super appreciate this kind of candid video reviewing something.
THANK YOU! u just earned not only a subscriber but a patreon. I’m new to gouache after working with watercolor only for a few months so I want to learn more about gouache I choose professional watercolor and 100% cotton paper to start watercolor as I saw such a difference. But was unsure if gouache quality was vastly different between high/lower end. So many other creators went so hard for arteza goauche comparing them to cheaper brands and even professional lines praising it so hard that I just gave up watching them. It’s infuriating for a creator to say “I’m an ambassador of arteza and received this free but it doesn’t influence my opinion at all.” That can never be true. I’d respect and buy from a company wya more id they sent their products to truly unbiased creators and said “give me the good and bad and then publish “ thank you for such a wonderful in-depth video and I’m so thrilled I found your channel. And so proud to go over and become a patron now as well!
Gouache is my favourite paint, Adam, you might like it more if you use it with Watercolour. You use the white Gouache with the different colours of Watercolour, you can do amazing shading, and opaquify the Watercolour. Basically, where ever you want the darkest part, paint the Watercolour, and then put the white Gouache on the other side. Then use water to bring them together, and blend them. I learned this technique in art school. I know my explanation is terrible, and I hope there is a tutorial on RUclips somewhere. I'll have to look it up. But this technique made me fall in love with Gouache. Anyway, I can't wait to eventually get my Arteza Gouache. I want this brand because the price is awesome.

Love this. I don't use gouache but I totally appreciated your honest conversation about product sponsorship. Happily watched ads for this. You guys are adorable, too.
I really appreciate how honest you are. It makes me feel like I can value your opinions a lot more, like when you started off the video about the colorblind glasses by complaining about how much they cost. It made it seem more genuine when you ended up really liking them.
To be completely honest over the past few years I’ve been on and off subscribed, ever since you guys have opened up more about the behind the scenes I don’t know what it is but your content is so much more real and genuine, I love being able to watch steph the artist and Adam the artist rather than just two artists and their quirky RUclips characters, keep up the good work, I love you guys :,)
What I wouldn't give to send these adorable artists a custom watercolor palette. I have a wall of professional tubes and I cant wait until they do more watercolor videos
Nice review, you guys always crack me up. I'm surprised Arteza didn't send you anything. When Arteza started sending free sets out, I contacted them to ask them for one (why not?) and they said they didn't send out free sets (cough, cough). So I bought a 24 set of gouache on Amazon for only $15 (I think it's way cheaper in the US than in the UK). I thought the paint wasn't bad at all, a step above student grade, but definitely not artist grade. I was able to paint something decent for my review video (not sponsored, hehe!). I got better results when I used a traditional brush rather than a waterbrush. That said, I still prefer the Winsor & Newton designer gouache, or better yet, the M. Graham gouache.
I have arteza products, and I enjoy them. I wouldn’t recommend them for professional originals to sell, and their pan set of watercolors seem to be better overall than the tubes, but yeah. Good quality and quantity for the price. Thanks for this review, I appreciate the perspective of using a popular brand without being given products by the brand.
Honestly, Arteza has some good stuff. I've tried their alcohol based markers, their colored pencils, some water brush markers and a few other small things like sketchbooks and eraser pencils. Are the supplies the best art products out there in terms of how they work? No, but they have some dang good quality stuff for an affordable price!
Thank you so much for your honest opinion on this!! I've heard so much about arteza but I've been so skeptical. I'm so used to my usual supply brands and I'm always weary investing in a different brand. I trust your opinions though!❤
I'd just watched two other Doodle Date videos back to back when this one went up, so Doodle Date marathon! XD I have the Arteza 72 tin of watercolour pencils and I do like those, especially all the colours (swatch heaven, especially as the colours often change significantly when water is added!) They say "expert" on the front, and I think that's pushing it, but they were decent value for money. In any case, honest reviews are always appreciated, as are all Doodle Date videos! You two always brighten my day :)
Wonderful video! I’ve never used Gouche and may someday! Try ARTEZA colored pencils and water color! I love your videos and I’m glad you still make them even if you’re not the most popular! I’ve been a fan for years and you guys are still my favorite art RUclipsrs!💖💜😊
I just wanted to mention that Adam is such an inspiring person: He's colorblind but still manages to draw beautiful colored artwork :D And Steph has always the best ideas for her cute characters. I love it~
Honestly love the unbiased review. Some of the RUclipsrs who "reviewed" them are completely bias and some never really used Gouache at all yet they are reviewing it, like gurl, seriously. There are some who did mentioned the cons of the product but since it was sent to them, they are still trying to be nice in the end. There are very few reviews that really dig deep into what they don't like and what they really like about this and you're one of them so I appreciate you guys!
Arteza is a lower end art brand in the US. They have kits with a lot of different types of art supplies which are great for kids who love art. As people get more experience they usually get better brands. It is a good starting point for trying out different things. The colors looked spot on to what we call them in the US. The lime looked like key lime pie filling, lilac looked like the blossoms on the lilac bushes. Thank you for keeping it real and not selling out for free stuff.
OMG!!! You two are the nicest people in the world. Even when you say something a little negative, you turn around and say something positive. So nice in this world of the internet where people say whatever they want. Love watching you guys.
Hello as I watched/heard the Behind The Canvas Podcast with Emily and had to share my experience. I purchased the 100pk of Arteza Premium TwiMarkers and treated myself to a Mother's Day Gift as I'm a Lettering Enthusiast...still struggling with the word Artist...and saw that they were claiming to be blendable and perfect for Watercolor Lettering/Techniques. Now I was sent by them the 24pk of the Real Brush Pens and the 6pk of Water Brushes last year and LOVED them...still do! So naturally I was all for spending some extra cash on some new brush markers. 100% regret it...just wanted to share my humble opinion as I didn't fare out too well with them! Okay...on to the rest of the video and your glorious accent!
Thank you for this fresh, honest review! I’ve been wondering about whether or not they would be right for me so thanks from saving me from spending money!
I chocked on my water “ do you think I would be using a bin lid if I was getting paid a thousand pound” lmfao it’s the new year and I want to teach myself how to sketch and do painting so I’m watching a lot of artsy videos and found you guys and I’m in love with you both 🤣 your personality’s are amazing and your content so far is killing me ! Thank you for the laughs ! Can’t wait to binge watch your videos ❤️
I’M SUCH A FANGIRL!!!!!! I really LOVE Arteza! There fine liners are actually really nice! There’s a highlighters yellow fine liners, and I LOVE using it for having neon coloured eyes in my drawings!
The Holbein colors Steph has (since the sets I found seem different and I wanted the same ones in the swatches): permanent white, jet black, rose, violet, cobalt blue, turquoise blue, cypress green, emerald green, leaf green, permanent yellow, permanent yellow orange, geranium (primary), lilac, turquoise green, and a brown that I THINK is burnt sienna.
I’m trying to make an effort to comment more and show my support for you guys! I love you Doodle Date 💖 I’ve been watching for I think about 3 years now~
Aw, you didn't say "HELLo ARt FRIENDS~" in the intro... or did I miss it??!😂 I love you guys so much lol. I wish they had sent these out to you! They're missing out! EVERYONE has reviewed these so it would've been fun if you had reviewed something else, but I know you guys took careful consideration while choosing. Those swatches look so pretty and neat! Maybe after this they'll send you guys supplies to review! Another lesser known student grade gouache that I'd like to see you review is the Miya Himi gouache. I feel like you'd love it Steph!
I would really like to see you two trying to use gouache in a more traditional way, without too much water. For some reason I feel like it gives you more freedom when there is a thiker layer of paint. Otherwise it feels like watercolour
I've also been hearing about their water color brush pens. I was hoping maybe you guys could eventually review those brush paint pens, because I remember you guys used I think- Kuratake ones before, and maybe it could be a nice comparison video/review video for those too. Hope you have a nice weekend/week Steph & Adam 😃
Couldn't wait for the brush nibs? Haha Neither could I! 😂 I love the colours. So bright and vibrant. But I warn you! Find a way to distinguish numbers 6 and 9. I mess up all the time and grab the wrong one by mistake.😅
I honestly got so confused for a second when I scrolled down and saw your subscriber count is under 1 million??? I've been watching you two for so long and you two really deserve so many more subscribers.
I love my arteza gouache just because i wanted to try it and it was good to practice with. I got the 12 set. But i have no idea how it compares to what real gouache would be like so I'm excited to see what you guys think.
I think I'm quite lucky at the moment. All the art supplies I have my eyes on are out of stock or otherwise unobtainable. And as I'm not supposed to be spending money right now that is a good thing. Lovely video as always. Three cheers for the Christmas tree. I didn't have one last year as I'm crashing at relatives and all (four) of mine are in storage. Living vicariously through you guys. 😀😀😀😀🌲
I JUST asked for those paints for my birthday next month! I’m so glad you made this review honest because everyone else seemed to have 100% positive reviews
I've been listening to you guys chat, I'm appreciating your morals on sponsorship and honesty. I'm wondering if you have an amazon wish list for art supplies/PO Box. I know I try out stuff all the time that aren't my jam but loads of people like and it would be cool if the art community could share supplies and pass them on to each other!

The lime looked like key lime pie filling, lilac looked like the blossoms on the lilac bushes. Thank you for keeping it real and not selling out for free stuff.
You're coupled with the fantabulous swatch queen Adam, what did you expect? XD
*whisper shouting* “this was SIXTY QUID”
What. A. Mood
OMG!!! You two are the nicest people in the world. Even when you say something a little negative, you turn around and say something positive. So nice in this world of the internet where people say whatever they want. Love watching you guys.
*"Do you think I would use a trash can lid if we're getting thousands?"*
😂
I appreciate this video soooo much!! Keep on going guys, you’re on the right track ❤️❤️
What Steph draws: cute little color study of a project she's working on.
What Adam draws: *THICC* parrot
He would not fit anywhere else :(
Hello as I watched/heard the Behind The Canvas Podcast with Emily and had to share my experience.
I recently tried their brush pens. And I kinda loved them
Ooooh!! Sounds interesting!!
Also Steph's hat + round glasses is such an iconic look
I love Holbein gouache, and I'm really pleased that this is a completely honest review.
The Holbein colors Steph has (since the sets I found seem different and I wanted the same ones in the swatches): permanent white, jet black, rose, violet, cobalt blue, turquoise blue, cypress green, emerald green, leaf green, permanent yellow, permanent yellow orange, geranium (primary), lilac, turquoise green, and a brown that I THINK is burnt sienna.
everyone’s reviews have been bribed by arteza and i’m glad that we have an ACTUALLY HONEST review
time to grab a chair and SPILL THE TEA ❤🍵 (excited for this video !!!)
We hope you enjoy it Jessica!!
I’m a gouache beginner and I have been using the 24 Arteza set a lot lately and I like it, so I was happy to see this video.
Loving your new facecam/bodycam set up guys. I just love seeing you guys be you.
Aww Brooke you sweetheart!! 💛
Sap green returns! Great video guys. Hope the paints will be well loved.
I’m trying to make an effort to comment more and show my support for you guys! I love you Doodle Date 💖 I’ve been watching for I think about 3 years now~
Your support is always super appreciated!
We're super lucky to have you! 💛
Ahh you guys! You deserve so much love and support 💖
Steph: “ohh hot pink”
Adam:“Hot pink like the hot mama who’s splotching them right now”
You guys are so adorable together!
Otherwise it feels like watercolour
the absolute OUTFIT COORDINATION!!!!! ITS ADORABLE
I always love being able to have a new video from you guys on Sunday, hope you guys are doing well ❤️
Right back at ya Lilly!
We hope you have an awesome Sunday!
Doodle Date Thanks! You too
YESSSSS MORE FOOD BASED ART SUPPLIES!!! bread erasers and potato stamps and carbohydrate wonderfulness😍💗
Unrlelated but I’m getting 80 ohuhu markers tomorrow ahh I’m gonna swatch them all
Couldn't wait for the brush nibs? Haha Neither could I! 😂 I love the colours. So bright and vibrant. But I warn you! Find a way to distinguish numbers 6 and 9. I mess up all the time and grab the wrong one by mistake.😅
Omg thats so much swatching! You're so lucky!
Blobfish and Cat Studios ik so excited I’ve saved for an age
I honestly got so confused for a second when I scrolled down and saw your subscriber count is under 1 million??? I've been watching you two for so long and you two really deserve so many more subscribers.
I love my arteza gouache just because i wanted to try it and it was good to practice with. I got the 12 set. But i have no idea how it compares to what real gouache would be like so I'm excited to see what you guys think.
So happy to see an honest arteza review we can trust!
*le gasp* Steph the gouache master is confused about gouache?!?
ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT...
It's so lovely to see Steph mention her game on the channel. I've been watching the progress on instagram and it's looking so adorable ♡♡♡
