This is really intresting to see, what type of engineering degree do you have? Just curious. I always wondered why in some manufacturing there are things that cause issues but really dont get fixed. For example I have a friend who Has been a SUBARU mecanic for 30 years and he always says that the factory gaskets suck. So he never puts the original gasket on because they are missing some some type of expansion goove or the mterial is, different something along those linescant remember the exact observation/issue. Do engineers ever get feedback from the user or how does that translate in to "Somthing that could be changed" like in your drawing package?
I'm a mechanical engineer in Canada That's a great question. I've never worked in the automotive industry, but I have worked in a medium volume production environment. Often there is a "pre-production" stage for products, where things like functionality, manufacturability, and servicability are assessed. If a problem is not adressed and makes it into production, it becomes very difficult and expensive to fix. Because of this, unless a problem is safety or reliability critical, it often will just be ignored until a new production run starts. Safety stuff is typically when you see vehicle recalls As for commication, I think any healthy production environment SHOULD have two way communication, however I'm sure in larger production environments there are many filters between the users and the engineers. In smaller R&D environments like where I work now, the engineering team works directly with the technicians so they get direct feedback on their parts. I have the pleasure of building my own assemblies before handing it off to the technicians, so I find out when stuff doesn't work first hand.
