Surely it would be absurdly narrow minded to dismiss the offerings of firms such as WPL, Fayee, MN and several others as fundamentally unimprovable dross, good only for their bodyshells at best. It seems to me that the meteoric rise in quality, willingness to listen to and act upon customer feedback and sensible price policy demonstrated by these companies have effectively created a new bracket between toy and hobby grade. Yes, the RTR version of a particular model might be toy grade, but the parts are right there to build a hobby grade product at a very competitive price. It´s up to the hobby grade guys to react with better parts support, a more interesting range of products and fairer prices, or to ignore the upstarts and wait to see what happens. Well done, Phil - that was a great use of some down-time. What a lovely place - thanks for showing it to us.
Del, we can always rely on you to put a very well written reply together. There are lots of people out there that are very quick to jump on these models as cheap toy junk. The very people that will happily pay twice the cost of this model for bolt on shiny parts for their $500 truck that have no functional use what so ever. These do break, but you can fix them, the same as 99% of all other hobby grade RC's out there, the difference with these though, it will cost you a few £/$'s rather than 10's/100's of £/$ to fix. The place was so nice, I only had an hr or so to spare, but easily could have spent all day there!
@@TomleyRC You found tie to shoot all the footage needed to pt together a very good-looking video. I greatly enjoyed the views of the live axle moving relative to the chassis.
absolutely, with a few inexpensive upgrades these are very good. haven't done video of my MN-D90 yet, Fayee rims/tires are wider slightly shorter, oil shocks, 16 turns 2 mm solder each front rim, B-36 gearbox. does near as well as my budget beast C-14.
i totally agree with you, its a really good rc for beginners as well. Those who are just learning how to mod their rc can definitely benefit from these models, it's cheap not only the rc itself but the parts as well and im pretty sure with the right modifications and parts you can get a pretty good rc car that is maybe almost as good as some stock hobby grade rc in terms of performance.
Recommendations: if you buy this truck immediately purchase two other things with it. A jug of plasti-dip (the dipping variety, not the spray on) and a tube of marine grease. As soon as you get this RC take ALL electronics out except for motor and plasti-dip them 2 or 3 coats; this will waterproof the electrics and is much more cost effective then conformal coating. Next pull apart the front and rear diff, pack em with marine grease. May as well hit all the bearings with a low-viscosity oil while you're in there. Final tip would be to wrap the vent-holes on the motor with gauze. This will still allow water in but it should keep all of the big particles of mud/dirt out, allowing the motor to last significantly longer with semi-amphibious runs. At this point you should not only have an EXTREMELY water resistant rig (I hesitate to say anything is waterPROOF) but you will also have a much better understanding of how your truck works and goes together; if you don't already.
this is exactly what I wanted to see... the Mn-99 in a real trail environment.. live how good it is stock... so glad I bought one, just not had the chance to test it so good job and the camera angle under the chassis was amazing idea, seeing the suspension working... big thumbs up 👍 mate
Cheers dude, I made the little review, but what it really needed was a good test. This terrain is what it's made for. (Oil suspension would make this even better).
I’ve just ordered one of these to inspect the underside of my home, I live in a park home which is about 50cm off the ground so makes inspecting for rot/leakes hard work ! I plan to fit a fpv camera, upgrade the lighting and use an old smart phone to video the floor oh and also...I really like it !!
I bought 2 of these for my kids. One of each of the two colours. These are great value for money. Picked them up for £35 each and they both came with 2 batteries. They surprised me with how capable they are. They're a good size for running indoors as well as outside. Only issue we've had is with the return spring on the trigger of one of the transmitters that kept binding up. It was an easy fix though.
I've just pulled the trigger on the 99s with 3 batteries for 59 quid off ebay. To be fair at that price I wasn't expecting much, however after looking at your videos it seems pretty capable. Plenty of upgrades too. I had the Tamiya stuff back in the day. Brat, Hornet and Hotshot so it was nice to see your bargain collection of classics. Thanks for making my mind up on this one.
