I can see this takes inspiration from Punch-Out style combat as a source point, and in this I can see the makings of the gameplay that would become more refined sword-action games like Die By The Sword & Dragon Quest Swords.
This game is so much fun , especially with 2 players. It's pretty long or feels that way . Played this in arcade all the time, about to load up MAME lol.
The bad thing about this game is that you can always DEFEND with shield to avoid being hit. They should have made the enemies able to crush the defence if you keep shielding, with a 1.5 seconds delayed warning, and then attack your for 1.5x the damage. So you need to keep moving your position instead of just keep shielding.
Good game overall, last boss was somewhat of a marathon, the time it was health bar was blue till it started changing must be unerving to anyone playing at the time and be suprised if they weren't thinking 'I'm I actually making any damage?' I'll be searching for full gameplay of this as it looks fun with some good designs.

I honestly wish that the Scarecrow Sword did something special for actually keeping it through the entire game. Even the swordsmith lady who gives you the sword, says you must defeat him with that sword, but it does so little damage even at max power. Quite unfortunately if you ask me. Though least with some of the boss fights, such as Goat Redstill/Satan Goat, Captain Bakslay, and Nausizz AKA the Devil, being some of the best combat and huge skill gap for those compared to the other enemies. All the gameplay I've seen, I don't know how these players tend to get lucky with the enemies not blocking as much or using special blocks to block all attacks.

You make this game looks easy but it's not. Enemies are fast (tho sometimes predictable), you'll need pretty good reflexes just to get anywhere.
