Girl I absolutely adore you!!!! However, using Kat Von D products when she is obviously problematic af was not the move. She may be Mexican but she's white passing and I feel like you could've used this video to promote brown, indigenous, and afro latina owned makeup products. I guess this also applies to beauty blender especially since they had issues with including darker shades of foundation for darker complexions.

Alot of them are not educated on the matter especially the older generation but is a slow process that I'm happy to still be around to witness. Monica, Amara la negra, and many others are using their platforms to broaden the conversation not only amongst Dominicans, but also other races oblivious to our ancenstry too❤❤❤.
joaaz true, I’m Haitian and it’s crazy how we’re the only black ones when literally Monica is my complexion lol and so are her ancestors. Why would that be hard to acknowledge and except?! Lol but I get it.
I’ve been told by a Dominican who is my shade that neither of us are black and he’ll never identify with being black. When I asked him if he considers me black he said no, you’re Latino, like me. He thinks our entire island is Latino and black doesn’t exist.... not making this up. 🤷🏿♂️
A lot of us (from Hispaniola) think that Black is only referred to those who are African American and actually from the United States. Black is really anyone who is a descendant of Africa. That’s us!

This is so helpful because I've been trying to find some black Spanish speakers (just because I like to see representations of myself🤷🏿♀️) on RUclips to watch because I'm learning Spanish. Please do more of these.

I loved this video. I’m half Italian half Dominican but was raised by the Dominican side of my family. I’m so proud to see Dominican women succeeding. I miss hearing the accent every day and this video made me feel connected to those roots again. Please do more in Spanish so it helps me remember our language even if I don’t get to speak it very often. 🙌🏼

Love seeing all the comments of people trying to learn Spanish. There’s so many people of different backgrounds learning Spanish on RUclips with no background in Spanish and they are such inspirations for some of my friends that are learning Spanish.
I am also so here for the Latin community finally breaking down barriers and giving dark skinned Latinos the place they deserve. Thank god for people like J Balvin, Ozuna, Cardi B, Bad Bunny, Natti Natasha that are big names now and show they don’t give an eff if you’re dark skinned, gay, trans etc and are paving the way for change in representation in the Hispanic community.

Kat Von D being a dumpster fire aside, I kinda wish Monica featured some other Latinx brands. Off the top of my head, Tata Harper's founder is from Colombia, there's Melt Cosmetics, Besame...
Just saying, there's a lot of options out there besides Kat if you're looking to support Latinx brands.

@@crystalnoir1513 That's the point. Everyone has heard of Kat Von D by now, even if not everyone knows that she's an anti semite, has a history of dating nazi sympathizers, married to a man with a swastika tattoo who blamed his teenage daughter for being raped by his adult friends, and is antivax.
It would have been great to shout out and lift up some smaller Latinx beauty brands that aren't run by people with problematic views.
Sometimes it is difficult or impossible to separate the brand from the person and you don't (or shouldn't) support people who are problematic just because they share a common heritage.
