@@chxlsxasmilx oh yeah I've done that too. I'm currently just barely getting back into DBD after like a 5 month break where I was playing other stuff. But the break was needed and I'm glad I took it
Yeah people crap on the Jill but the fact he was rescued extremely unsafely by someone in the first game isn't getting talked about much at all. Sure that didn't immediately kill him but it could have. You don't do that. The unhooker has to protect the hook victim from being tunnelled but so many people just go 'I see hooked survivor, I unhook, I get points whee1111!!!!'. It should be totally possible to refuse unhooks if anti camp would otherwise trigger because that's a large source of tunnelling. Survivors being thrown off hook against their will. Aside from them though the others were great. For most of us that stuff does happen but it's not very often. Just a lot of people doing tome challenges and takes 10-20 minutes to do all the gens.
Well if he showed us the games where the team was good the killer didn't tunnel and nothing crazy happened it wouldn't be a very entertaining video. Might as well just watch his twitch vods at that point.
Even as a duo, sometimes you get with solo survivors and its so hard. I keep thinking about one game, me and my duo went against a Billy who grabbed a person off of a gen 15 seconds in who instantly dc'd. The other solo survivor tried to unhooked the bot straight away, got chainsawed down by Billy and killed himself on hook. Billy then came to me, I pointed at the dead body floating up into the air, Billy nodded and let me and my duo just do gens and escape. In endgame chat, we had a short talk about how we were all unhappy with that game. Billy felt with us for having such teammates, we felt with Billy for not even getting to do anything.
the flipside is every now and then you encounter a player were both of you are on the same wavelength and pull some insane teamwork off like a well timed bodyblock or an endgame rescue executed perfectly and it feels amazing
People like that Jill are the exact reason why some games I intentionally let some people live and kill the others. Even had someone rage text me afterwards because they stealthed the entire time, and hid in the corner when it was last 2 and he hadn't been hooked. Had a lovely time with that conversation
Sometimes I feel like doing that as Killer but I can’t be bothered extending the game by 5-10 mins looking for the stealthy player. I’ll just take my 3k-4k and leave. But if the last player was the one that put the most effort in and wasn’t toxic I’ll let them open gates/give hatch
That's so unnecessary. You're just as bad as the Jill. You can't see their POV so you don't even know what they're doing exactly. Also you don't know their thoughts, Jill was probably just trying to buy time for Bill. She can't see him. She knows he's not on a gate, but as far as she knows he might be heading to one. She might not know there's a hatch offering, that it still works on rpd or if he knows this. She might not even consider possibility of hatch.
@@Vgomes-go6htyou can never really know that as killer though. I try to choose the one who I think has been doing the most and has done the most in chase, I'm usually right basing off the blood points alone but not always. @@mooprph7198 If last 2 remaining and the killer has instadowns or you are injured with no way to heal, just leave. You can't bodyblock, nobody else in the map that could benefit from you buying time at the gate to help, no reason to stay. Giving hatch as an option for the other player is 100% the right play. With 3 or more, stay, maybe something can happen. Carefull of the instadowns though sometimes buying time at gate is all you can do. No sweat.
Man that game 7 is everything you want in the game, and the fact it was solo queue - where they had no idea what each other had or what the others were doing - and still had that much cohesion... It's a thing of beauty
Solo survivor has gotten so bad that as a killer main I feel bad for killing solos who tried their hardest to save their team when their team gave up or threw the match. It doesn't feel good to win that way.

That last match is exactly why I keep diving into SoloQ. When you have a match where the team just comes together it's an amazing feeling and I imagine EVERYONE has an incredible clutch victory story.
as a DBD Solo Survivor, you just gotta accept that things are not gonna go your way and just to do your best and have fun. It is just a game at the end of the day.
Sure but being the punching bag for literally everyone might just not be considered fun by many. Also if you dont take it serious at all you might end up as a so called "classic soloq teammate" So really awesome if you are able to do that but I dont think that should be the actual solution....
@@leonthegamer2839 it is not the actual solution for many people. survivors are currently playable only in teams, soloq hurts, unless you are high mmr.
@@sirjoesphjoestar8361 As a (presumably) high mmr soloq player I have to disagree. Soloq is basically the exact same bs at high mmr. Maybe I am just unlucky with the mmr system though... Some days it is actually playable but most of the time its not. Other than that I agree with every else you said. :)
@@leonthegamer2839 i play at kinda high mmr, and i can say, the survivors, while not perfect, are far better than low mmr. i would play against tunneling high mmr killer rather than team up with low mmr survivors anyday.
@@sirjoesphjoestar8361 hm I mean yeah maybe the number of times you get potato teammates is a bit lower but I got already matched with comp players (knightlight for example) while playing soloq. Like there is just no chance at all. I still get teammates that urbun evasion through the map at times. Teammates that let you die for no reason because they wanna get hatch or reset at the gate so the killer can push them out. Teammates that give up as soon as they see a nurse because the chances of winning against a high mmr nurse is even lower if you play soloq and so on. I am also pretty sure that otz played on high mmr as well. But again maybe matchmaking just messes with me. When I play killer it seems to work well for me most of the times.
Just making a wheel of pre-set communication phrases between survivors would be SUCH a game changer!!!! Just a simple "I'm ok!" "Need help" "just leave!" (and maybe a "on my way!" But that might be too op) Would improve QOL SO MUCH
Always in awe of how consistent you are in creating good content and you never fail to deliver. This video was just the best, 6 games that were very engaging to watch with neat explanations and then analysis at the intro and outro. Just the best 🙌
That Jill is everything wrong with DbD players. That's the point where you message the person and bullet-point list every stupid thing they did and then block them so you never have to play with them again. That Bill was 100% inventing brand new swear words because existing ones were not strong enough. E: Oh my god the Kate in that Demo match. If I was that Demo I'd be ugly-laughing at catching that Kate. Holy lord. And you know the Kate was salty as _hell_ afterwards, as though she didn't have herself to blame. She could've left, she could've destroyed the portal. She had options and she picked the dumbest possible one. E2: No, I don't blame that Adam for doing archives. It's a Billy, solo queue sucks against him - they did before the buff too but it's worse now - dude wanted to get _something_ out of that match.
Blocking a player doesn’t actually mean you won’t play with them again, it just blocks their communications in game. I do agree tho those players were pretty crazy.
Hey Otz! I did an experiment very similar (if not identical) to yours and got very similar results. However, I don't believe I'm among the "High MMR" players - I consider myself intermediate, I've been playing since 2020 - and my data has been collected since 2021 and recorded in an automated spreadsheet created by me. In it, I have a record of more than 600 Survivor games, and more than 500 Killer games (all games that I usually play alone, on each side). My Escape Rate hovers around 43%, while my Killer wins (3 or more kills) are above 76%. I always found this data very interesting but never found a place to publish it. I'm glad you're doing this now! These are really great conclusions that we can draw from these data analyses.
I love that you include fun and interesting games where it wasn't about you escaping in the end. Shows how one can have fun and 'win' a match in their own way with the right mindset. It isn't always about escaping. I really enjoyed every match in this video!
@@DowntownRB If you ever want to try some survivor builds based off of if Killers were Survivors have I got some for you! Or even Trapper as Killer Croc xD
The amount of effort and work you put into these analyses is extremely impressive, Otz. I hope everyone else appreciates you for that just as much as I do!
Something that was really cool about this experiment was seeing your improvement in chase! Seeing you make more plays and more of them being more successful in them too was very cool
One thing that I personally like to do whenever I play solo-queue (which is 85% of the time) is that I utilize a certain build structure. The build structure is one info perk, one selfish perk, one teambased perk, and then one late game perk. The logic for the first three can be easily described by how you want to use a perk. As a reference, I'll use Any Means Necessary. If I want to use it as an Info perk, I can use it to locate where my teammates are by the pallets dropping in the background. If I want to use it as a selfish or a teambased perk, I can use the pallet reset part of it for that element. This is how I normally make my builds, but a good one that I normally go for is "Trouble Shooter for info, No One Left Behind for endgame, Desperate Measures for teamplay, and Fast Track for selfish play"
Nice one until you get slugged or tunneled. Whenever my friends and I see a random getting downed within 30 seconds after the unhook we all say: "They game just teached you that you shouldnt play it without anti tunneling perk" . In a full swf your teammates can be your anti tunneling perk but in soloq you dont really have that option at all. But I still like your approach though. :)
@@leonthegamer2839 The funny thing is that I rarely get upset when I am tunnelled, as I am still wasting the killers time for my team. The build, specifically the structure, is meant for providing tools for whenever I have a problem that solo-queue can't instantly provide. So if I can't solve camping, I swap use an anti-camp perk for the selfish section. Same logic for anti-tunnel. The perks I mentioned are just my go-to build when I want to relax in my games, but I have used other perks with the structure.
@@silencedhero7953 Yeah I see that but unfortunately I see tunneling way too often up to a point were it starts to become quite upsetting. Especially against strong killers you cant actually buy a lot of time. If nurse, spirit, blight, wesker, pyramid head wants to tunnel there is very little you can do based on the killers power only. I mean you can always hope that they are not that good but thats about it. If I go for anti tunneling I dont have anything for camping and if I use something for camping I dont have anything against slugging and so on. I mean thats probably just the issue of using perks as a band aid fix but some gaming sessions are extremly frustrating. But again I do like your approach nonetheless. I just dont like that I am basically forced to run 2 fixed perks (info in form of kindered and one anti tunneling perk) it completly destroys the creativity. When I play with friends I really enjoy going for different perks because I know they can help if necessary.
Thank you otz sir🗿❤️ the video and you playing the games were really entertaining and it was enjoyable i watched till the end without skipping any part and i slept peacefully for real keep doing your thing you are amazing 👏
This experiment has one fatal flaw - MMR, you're a great player getting matched with people who have a low chance of constantly blowing themselves up, running into killer, showing you to killer on purpose etc. Weaker players like myself get matched with complete vegetables way more often.
@@TheOnlyToblin I think we all know it's not. Correct me if I'm wrong but one match you get a person clearly new to specific killer, next is seasoned pyramid head. At the same time your team of 4 randos consists of you, a great team player, a great chaser and that guy you wish disconnected because bot would be better.
@@Chodor101 Hence the "if" in my sentence. I play both sides pretty evenly and I see far more 3-4 man SWFs as a killer than I ever do as a survivor. I tend to end up with, at best, a duo. So yeah, soloQ is still quite a bit of a hit and miss, with mostly misses.
@@TheOnlyToblinIf the survivors are a bunch of vegetables and the killer is a vegetable as well then the killer has the upper hand. Low mmr is heavily dominated by the killers. I mean if survivors dont actually loop, dont hug structures and dont look behind them while the others are hiding edge map as soon as they hear a faint tr the killer doesnt really need to do anything except for just followowing them. I mean isnt that the main explaination why weaker killers still have decent kill rates overall?
Doesn't make sense considering it's easy to get into the top bracket of MMR. There are a ton of potatoes there. If you think high MMR is some sort of professional bracket, you're either naive or stupid. Do some research why don't you.
i’ve played solo q almost exclusively for 3k hours (on the SWITCH, mind you) and i agree with your friend! it’s really about playing with the right mindset (for me it’s focusing not on winning, but getting as many points as possible and/or doing goofy plays). and the times you DO get a competent solo q squad hit SO GOOD lmao. if solo q were truly that miserable for me i’d have quit a long time ago.
Since you started playing Deep Rock Galactic, the DRG community is basically the opposite of DBD solo queue. Everybody generally knows what to do, will work as a team, and supports each other with minimal communication. Some of it is indeed because it's PvE, but it also does a much better job of giving the players the tools to be able to just ping something and people will know what to do because it's better for both the individual and the team to work together. While still having tons of tricks that you naturally pick up on just by watching other more experienced people and seeing what they do without the consequences for mistakes or experimenting being instantly losing the game while being relentlessly BMed and abused. The DRG devs and the playerbase have done an amazing job fostering the mindset and creating an environment of working together and see it as a point of pride to be welcoming instead of abusive to more inexperienced players, which DBD could really take a lot of notes on, especially when it comes to tamping down ways for players to grief each other, since I caught some streams and I would disagree pretty heavily with a lot of the minor BM you called just little bits of goofing around and not toxic.
It's funny because in any game with a Solo Q mode (PvP or PvE) they've more or less fixed the issue of solo players being at a huge disadvantage. Literally all BHVR needs to do is add a chat wheel that has simple things like "I'm being chased!" or "The killer left me!" on it and boom, 90% of Solo Q issues are fixed. We don't even NEED VOIP. Just bare minimum communication with your fellow teammates goes such a long way, and it shows especially with DRG.
1:10:22 I still remember a match where I was going up against the most obvious basement trapper ever. He had both iron grasp and agitation, and I saw him setting up loads of traps by basement. Because of this I avoided being chased around basement which worked out pretty well for me, but then one of my teammates got in chase and ran straight towards the shack where basement was and the match snowballed from there
Let this Jill be a lesson to any and all survivors out there: camping in the exit gates literally helps no one. It only hurts. Your team and, with certain killers, even yourself. Just leave.
Actually there is one scenario in which Jills behaviour might have been helpful. If Bill didnt go for hatch but instead tried to open the other gate it would have been actually useful trying to by more time (similiar to what nea did against the demo) I really dont think that was her plan though just generally speaking. Also sometimes it can be really great to run towards the gate while the killer is right after you and then your teammates run out and try to escort you to the gate so you actually make it. However that one obviously depends on a lot of things but still.
I love how i follow otz content for like 4 years and I just realized i wasn't subscribed because of the "you are a good friend to me, i'll subscribe rn"
There's so much more communication that could happen with the hud. Such as locker icons for hiding teammates, an icon for plot twist, or the anti-facecamp bar showing up to for teammates to see.
Love not only your takes at the end but just how skilled you are. I have been playing for about... 2 weeks now and didn't think I would find the game as fun as I thought as I don't handle stuff with suspense (in this case the heart beating and chase music) all too well but surprisingly I can. Something I noticed and not sure if it's due to me still being new or not and how the match making works, but I've encountered that most players, new and experienced, tend to either focus on things that can harm the team's chances or actually do proper synergy even without coms. using myself as an example, I suffer a lot from just running straight but doing far worse with trying to look behind and running into stuff. I do manage to excel at focusing gens and hiding even in plain sight with most killers not noticing me or using the terrain to while hidden to scout out for the killer and rush to another gen. Um reason I bring all this up is that most or all players do tend to be either very focused on a single role or two (objective control and secondary rescuing people) or in the case of you are very versatile. problem is when your team doesn't have a certain or versatile player in the match is where it can go detrimental. One game I recall had two Dwight's and a Nea trying to distract me and rescuing but not waiting for me to leave the general area, resulting in the Fen Min they had to not only try to do gens by herself but had to try to bail out the other two (game ended with me letting the Fen go as she got off her hook when her and Nea were left so I took her to a gate and let her be the only survivor). So, there's definitely a lot of things that DBD does struggle with, especially since from what I encounter people either struggle to bait and loop or focus gens. One thing that I feel should be a feature added to the game would be to allow at least survivors see what perks they have since they can chat with one another, allow them to see what perks they are loaded out and see if anyone is willing to chat or choose what their approach is (as for the how will this feature present itself, have it be similar to the way perks are arranged in an actual match but smaller and over the heads of the survivors which will change with what they put in their load out). Though again play styles are another aspect that can make or break but least for versatile players this will allow them to build accordingly for the team. Also sorry for the wall of text just wanted to give a bit of insight even on a rookie's perspective to along with my own two cents on a feature that would be very useful if people pay it any attention. Anyway, sorry again and thank you to whoever read this, hope I made sense, and do have a splendiferous day/night yal.

@@aquila519i agree and same. being competitive and not wanting to get the worst case scenario for yourself still puts me in a disappointed mood and sometimes can get angry. however, one thing that never changed for me was being fine with dying for my teammates! i hated when teammates died for me when i would rather just take the death instead so they can live. even when playing with a friend or more, i always get upset BECAUSE they wouldn’t let me die for them. it really is a work in progress to care less about if you escape or not but the way for me to feel better is to feel like you’re sacrificing for a cause. if you have a chase for a gen or two or helped two people be able to heal and you still died, i’d be satisfied i saved them time before dying. last time i played, i played multiple soloq games with music in between yet im pretty sure (from my memory) that i died every single game. one can only take so much so i stopped but this is the only time i can guarantee “it gets better”.

Otz: Solo Queue may not be that bad.
First game he shows: tunneled to death
Second game: 3k due to tombstone and rancor and a very dumb teammate
The absolute state of solo queue, and a big reason why I still can't bring myself to play again.
This is solo q , perfect example .
tbf those two things can also happen in a swf (minus the jill)
Even as a duo, sometimes you get with solo survivors and its so hard. I keep thinking about one game, me and my duo went against a Billy who grabbed a person off of a gen 15 seconds in who instantly dc'd. The other solo survivor tried to unhooked the bot straight away, got chainsawed down by Billy and killed himself on hook. Billy then came to me, I pointed at the dead body floating up into the air, Billy nodded and let me and my duo just do gens and escape.
In endgame chat, we had a short talk about how we were all unhappy with that game. Billy felt with us for having such teammates, we felt with Billy for not even getting to do anything.
jeah duo is hard too i mean atleast you can tell one person what to do

Like game 7
This Gabriel on Midwich is the teammate we all wanna see. And tbh, the whole team was GREAT
People like that Jill are the exact reason why some games I intentionally let some people live and kill the others.
It's a thing of beauty
Solo survivor has gotten so bad that as a killer main I feel bad for killing solos who tried their hardest to save their team when their team gave up or threw the match. It doesn't feel good to win that way.

as a DBD Solo Survivor, you just gotta accept that things are not gonna go your way and just to do your best and have fun.
It is just a game at the end of the day.
Sure but being the punching bag for literally everyone might just not be considered fun by many.

@@leonthegamer2839 it is not the actual solution for many people. survivors are currently playable only in teams, soloq hurts, unless you are high mmr.

Teammates that let you die for no reason because they wanna get hatch or reset at the gate so the killer can push them out. Teammates that give up as soon as they see a nurse because the chances of winning against a high mmr nurse is even lower if you play soloq and so on.

Holy lord.

I write that down
Nice one until you get slugged or tunneled.
@@silencedhero7953
Yeah I see that but unfortunately I see tunneling way too often up to a point were it starts to become quite upsetting.
I LOVE playing against the pig, the traps give a good level of anxiety when yours is active and relief when you finally get the trap off

At least Karma not dissapointed us
that plague build should've been an absolute soloQ destroyer but you actually still got the 3 man out. insanely well done!
This experiment has one fatal flaw - MMR, you're a great player getting matched with people who have a low chance of constantly blowing themselves up, running into killer, showing you to killer on purpose etc.
Weaker players like myself get matched with complete vegetables way more often.
If MMR is working as intended, you're also up against vegetable killers who can't run a basic loop.
There are a ton of potatoes there.

i’ve played solo q almost exclusively for 3k hours (on the SWITCH, mind you) and i agree with your friend! it’s really about playing with the right mindset (for me it’s focusing not on winning, but getting as many points as possible and/or doing goofy plays). and the times you DO get a competent solo q squad hit SO GOOD lmao. if solo q were truly that miserable for me i’d have quit a long time ago.

Let this Jill be a lesson to any and all survivors out there: camping in the exit gates literally helps no one. It only hurts. Your team and, with certain killers, even yourself. Just leave.
Actually there is one scenario in which Jills behaviour might have been helpful. If Bill didnt go for hatch but instead tried to open the other gate it would have been actually useful trying to by more time (similiar to what nea did against the demo)
I really dont think that was her plan though just generally speaking.
Also sometimes it can be really great to run towards the gate while the killer is right after you and then your teammates run out and try to escort you to the gate so you actually make it. However that one obviously depends on a lot of things but still.
Yeah in some scenarios wasting the killer’s time this way or waiting to see if you can go back to help is a good thing imo. 😅

that dwight too!!! iq is above our comprehension
