Channel Chasers Was Ahead of Its Time

- Channel Chasers "future scenes" take place in 2024 so what better time to rewatch the special and see if it still holds up? Today I'll rewatch The Fairly Odd Parents Channel Chaser Movie and see if it's just nostalgia or if it was really ahead of it's time.
What this movie taught me was definitely enjoy life while you can,and enjoy your loved ones, pets and friends, before they are taken away forever.
Amen brother/sister! I ended up having to put down my 1st ever dog 10 months back and oh man do I wish I did more to enjoy the time I had had with her when I had the chance!
The dictator channel was a reference to the history channel running mostly ww2 documentaries at the time.
Yup. And Vicky there was a play on the Fuhrer of Germany (check out the colors of the “V” flag). I could tell right there.
That's pretty cool!
The late 90's to late 2010's were obsessed with Hitler.
Now it's aliens.
There was even a joke at the time calling the History Channel the "Hitler Channel".
Funnily enough, Poof in the _New Wish_ (now as Peri) finally made a comeback on the same day as Timmy's kids found their dad's time capsule at the end of _Channel Chasers,_ which the episode's original airing was exactly 20 years ago.
Coincidence? I think not.
Really that's Pretty Fricken Rad!!!
The swearing outburst makes this video even funnier
well at this point has it been confirmed that New Wish does indeed take place 20 years after the original series so that end scene with adult Timmy opening his time capsule probably took place at the exact same time as when Dav Dimmadome met poof and got him as his fairy godparent
@@Django_Palstra So, then how are Cosmo & Wanda both in Dimmsdale & Dimmadelphia as both Hazel's and Timmy's Kids God Parents?
Timmy pulled a ben 10 and had to revive the universe. Although he took his time. And Cosmo and Wanda were retired for 10000 years. (Which helps the revived universe theory) We probably don't have the cc ending
We might have one of the other two endings with the live action movies ending being the better of the two
I still feel like to this day Channel Chasers was the perfect series finale for the show
i don't

i love video essays where the video just explains the movie beat by beat
Right lol? I thought this would be about how it’s “ahead of its time”
Was expecting a discussion but got a recap.
Yeah, 20 seconds in, he's just describing the episode, until the last 30 seconds, he gives his thoughts, which are basically "It's a good movie!"
Maybe he's George Wood's kid.
Statistically the recap is the part people like to watch. People click off as soon as the analysis starts every time so I made them shorter. Hope to expand them in the future
@@JustJustin.the title was very misleading, I thought it was going to somehow be similar to today's TV landscape
@@AggressivelyAverage I was kinda looking for an analysis
@@AggressivelyAverage Well shorter shouldnt equal to 1% of your video
3:30 Cosmo's smartest idea, and Wanda shuts it down
This should have been the season finale and Vicky being permanently fired, and maybe his parents be more better parents
no it shouldn't have been, it's fun to explain to people that Channel Chasers isn't even a season finale
I cried at the scene where his parents tell him they love him in every tv channel, got a tear just from rewatching that bit
You know there's one major plot hole that no one ever brings up in the special. Why did Timmy just wish for the remote to be out of Vicki's possession?
I think Timmy can't do that because it would give away he has fairies. The act can't be too obvious.
@@kappadarwin9476 Oh right.
I never thought about this. I don’t know. They’re able to wish them away when they’re both in Timmy’s possession so that’s weird.
Couldn’t he wish for Vicky to forget the situation entirely?

I thought this was gonna be an essay about the movie, but it's just a summary
This special had a really sentimental and emotional feel to it. Even as an adult, you remember what it was like as a kid and the fear of growing up. Change is scary. It always is. It also made such hilarious, nostalgic references to other shows and movies.
This just reminded me how bad Timmy's parents are and that he shouldn't respect or trust them ever again
Yet he was the one tormenting them?
@@gdash1996 I wonder why
3:30. Back when Cosmo still had good ideas

I forgot how fucked up the original Fairly Oddparents was
Not really.
Unrelated, but I find it really funny that so many people see this as the canon ending of FOP when it's not even a season finale.
I remember at one point thinking it was a finale of some sort (I suppose it could be a Mandela effect type of thing...)
@@shoyru266 combination of mandela effect and years of people saying it should've been the series finale

@@Trynt33 Channel Chasers was not the last episode produced for season 4 (far from it in fact), in actuality it was School's Out!: The Musical.

I remember watching this 20 years ago. Thanks for making. I especially always loved the Tom and Jerry parody and I find it a funny coincidence the fact that Tara Strong actually voiced a mouse in a Tom and Jerry movie not too long before this.
I mean Timmy wasnt attacking the city, he was just flying around the city

Born in 2004 and you already feel old. I must be ancient 😭

This is the ending of Fairly Odd Parents and I think everyone can agree with that.
No I can't, as not only does ending it here rob me of dozens of my favorite episodes, but's not even a season finale.
this movie had a great reference to an old anime dubbed in America @6:55 - This show is a parody of the Japanese cartoon Mach Go Go Go, known more popularly as Speed Racer, which involved a young race car driver and his family and his girlfriend. The absurd danger of the racing is parodied, as well as the main character's gadget-enhanced race car, and his relationship with a mysterious rival racer. Peter Fernandez (January 29, 1927, - July 15, 2010 (age 83 years) was an American actor, voice director, and writer. Despite a career extending from the 1930s, he is probably best known for his roles in the 1967 anime Speed Racer. Fernandez co-wrote the scripts, was the voice director, and translated the English-language version of the theme song.
This should've been the series finale. Considering that they would later be jumping the shark in later episodes leading to the shows downfall
@@OniGama567 no it shouldnt of, and i think it got better over time
Can we talk about the animation 20 years ago and the animation is around the same as it id today
This isnt a video essay, it's a synopsis with commentary.
Channel Chasers was definitely the greatest special they ever made. It hit way too hard
“Video essay or plot summary”
*plot summary*
As much as I liked this special (and I still do) I'll never understand why Mrs. Turner kept glaring at Mr. Turner every time he laughs at Tootie's alias, Deep-Toot. She's a total killjoy.
Because a toot can also mean a fart, so it's probably just within dad joke territory
@@Trynt33 That was pretty funny, NGL. And Mrs. Turner's a definite wet blanket.
8:11 This was foreshadowing, because it was revealed in an episode that Timmy made a wish to keep him from aging
This special encapsulates what tv was like in it's era, before streaming, before recording tv was widely available. Every show felt distinct, and often had enough of an episode count that any time you tuned in it was at least different. These days with streaming there are a lot of shorter run shows, that you're expected to enjoy in full, often focus tested and dialed in for a specific appeal, with standardized tools leaving a lot of it looking the same. You're never forced to watch an anime import because it's the only thing on, or flip to the network you love, only to see it's their "for very little" programing block.
Make no mistake things are better now, but the way we consume media effects the way it is shaped. You can make a fine Pizza for a single person, small enough to still be healthy, but I'll always prefer a single slice of a full pie.
20 years…?
Yeah brother. We gettin old.
Yep damn
I remember this Special and i loved it, it was awesome. The first few seasons of this show are underrated.
no they're not lmao
This was always one of my favorite episodes from any show I watched as a kid. Absolute banger and goated with the sauce
5:41 I noticed you didn't catch this reference. It's _Space Ghost._ The classic show, not the Adult Swim era stuff.
You also didn't mention how Maho Mushi was a reference to anime in general, but especially _Dragon Ball_ and its World Martial Arts Tournament arcs.
If I had a nickel for every time Timmy s**t himself I would have 2 nickles, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Great combo of drama, character development, and comedy relief
i actually watched this ep like an hour ago lol
Lifetime FOP fan. I loved this. Saw it a few times. Truly incredible.
Fun fact: in the time capsule scene, they made the future kid have both Tootie's features and Trixie's, as a result of shipping wars in the fandom making both incredibly popular and polarizing.
Channel Chasers is GOAT'd, I will not be taking questions
🔥 🔥 🔥
People really don't know what "ahead of it's time" means anymore, huh?
Imagine they had smart tvs in the show and Smartphones with Internet Connection, that would be ahead of the time
I had a CCs plug and play as a kid. It was also fun. This special is much better than the Timmy/Jimmy power hour
the line "they're fucking around in Santa's workshop" made me laugh so fucking hard 💀
I kinda want them to make a Channel Chasers 2 for A New Wish
Was I doing something _Aggressively Average_ related?
That part when he looks at the old photo use to really get to me as a kid 😢
That’s the part i remember most
Plot twist: timmy did not marry trixie OR tootie.
I mean, really stop and think about it. Would timmy REALLY want to marry an unlikable rich snooty asshole who is always rejecting him, or someone else who comes off as more of a creepy stalker who can’t seem to take a hint that he is not interested in her? If you answered neither of the two, congratulations!
You're Right his Wife is Chole!!!
How about his whole harem instead.
@@darkdragon7210 plus, when you think about it, if Timmy DID marry Tootie, would that make Vicky his sister-in-law? Because that would be even worse.
@@maxmeidl4909 When did Timmy marry Tootie?

“AHHHH OOHH EEEHHH”
I've always loved the Terminator reference when adult Timmy arrives in the present ever since I watched the first movie during one of its free periods here on RUclips. Every time I rewatch this on Netflix now it's available, I always geek out.
The fact this was suppose to be the series finale but it wasn’t because nickelodeon refused to end it still pisses me off. This was the perfect end
"vicky thats wrong" I mean he calls her evil for a reason 😂😂😂😂
Channel Chasers is the canon end of the timeline (a distinct concept from the canon end of _the show,_ I mean the Adult Timmy depicted at the end _is_ Timmy's true future, a well-adjusted adult with kids of his own). Later seasons with Kid Timmy also "really happened" (although things get _murky_ after Poof came onto the scene), but any other depictions of _Adult_ Timmy (like Grow Up Timmy Turner) are just... _not_ the real future.
how do you know that they're not the real futures?
@@Spacething7474 Well for one thing, Fairy Timmy doesn't show up in A New Wish.
@@shadowslayer205 no version of timmy has shown up in a new wish
10000 year retirement explanation needs the Timmy fairy . So maybe we get a blend of cc and the live action movie endings to try and help explain
I have to love that the episode that parodies and pays homage to classic T.V. programs is also one of the episodes with the strongest emotional storylines in the series.
why rewatch when bro rewatched it for us 😭👏
6:16 i seriously never saw the original scene before this video
“That’s still attempted murder”
I forgot about this. Holy shit I remember this now. It's been many years.
I remember watching the opening of this as a kid, i never got to watch it
Thanks a lot for showing me what i missed
It was such a treat to see so many different artsyles and cartoons paid homage to in it.
I listened to the whole recap expecting an analysis after and then the video ended. You may need to look up the definition of the phrase "ahead of its time".
Crazy that I still remember watching the premiere on TV. Kinda meta how the parodies pay homage to kids shows before it & now here we are 20yrs later feeling nostalgia for an excellent TV movie for one of our childhood shows
I enjoyed “Channel Chasers” a lot as a kid.
Same. I remember thinking it was a big deal when it came out
You think that Timmy actually does remember his faries and only lets robo Vicky babysit in hopes of his children gaining Fairy god parents?
Who knows
Maybe Timmy is a fairy now
I wanna see Timmy’s kids in a new wish.
Fun fact, snoop dogg voices the dog in the Scooby-Doo parody
It was Kevin Richardson the same voice actor as the dad’s boss and future AJ.
The name snooper dog is a reference to snoop though
11:16 according to archive websites, this was a segment of a show that featured hand puppets using gavels and mallets to beat each other over the head of as slapstick comedy. It earned many many many parodies on youtube, including one where the main victim of the slapstick finally fights back.
Favorite episode of all time. Easy.
You know for the first time in YEARS I threw Fairly Odd Parents on while eating the other day, and this was the episode I chose for nostalgia
I’ve been binging it too! The theme of Timmy losing his fairies always reminds me of my praying mantids and other pets that I’ve had to say goodbye to.
I love how they actually gave Vicky Piccolo Jr.’s cape 😂
somehow i didn't even notice this entire video was taking place on a TV until the very end
Funny how we both made channel chasers videos 😭
I watched this online a few weeks ago after Grey D posted that it's the 20th anniversary.
I tried to think of parallels between its dystopian future & our actual future.
The one thing that turned out well is that we'd have a maniac in charge & our infrastructure would be dumpy.
There's a reason why so many fans consider this the series finale.
Which is hilarious considering that it wasn't even the season finale.
@@Spacething7474 True.
Adult Timmy had me like GYATT damn and still do
I heard it was going to be the series finale.
Well the New Wish series actually follows the ending's timeline.
Confirmed by the creator of the series.
@electrobob992 Well except for the fact this came out before Poof/Peri existed, and also I believe the whole time stop thing Timmy started so I dunno
You heard wrong Evan, it wasn't even the season finale.
10000 year retirement can still be done if we got Timmy as a fairy.
First time I ever felt a “tingle” was when I saw Vicky get older with her remote on that game show. I was like 6-8.
I still don't get how or why would people like Timmy get amnesia after reaching age 16-18? I never got childhood amnesia while growing up. And my earliest memory is still at 2 years old in 1997.
This is THE best Nickeolodean movie. It's too bad Butch Hartman had to go and dig this show into a deep grave instead of this being the end.
DEEPTOOT is the real hero imo
For anyone wondering this just a recap video.
Curious how these videos basically became the substitution of forums
This is basically the spider verse movies except this one movie split in 3 parts
Honestly considering that the "New Wish" happens exactly at the moment when the "Bad" Future was supposed to be, I personally wouldn't mind a SEQUEL of this story.
Here's an example - Vicky Tyrant (from the Bad Future) could suspect the Agent she sent after Timmy (And the Agent turned out to be Future Timmy and he was a Double Agent)
and looked at the screen where she saw the event of what happened then and when she saw that her younger "I" lost and her reality could be erased, she most likely could find
a way to go to no time place and wait there and prepare her revenge where she could then unite with the current version of Vicky (New Wish) for Revenge on Timmy and his family
and Hazel and her family and friends.
Personally, I want to see the moment when adult Timmy (when he gets his memory of fairies back) and Hazel were thinking about what wish
Timmy would make and it was in that meme pose that Peter B. Parker and Miles Moralis were in in Into the Spider-Verse when they were thinking
about how to get into the villain's lab.
Maybe this universe uses a mix of the cc end most things. And the live action movie ending for the 10000 year retirement explanation.
The TMNT Parody (Karate Cows) was done in 2004, at the same time as TMNT 2003 when that was airing on 4Kids since Paramount didn't really own half of Mirage yet nor the TMNT Franchise until 2012, making this parody age really poorly.
I completely forgot that Vicky straight up took a picture of Timmy in his underwear. Vicky really is an evil babysitter.
is Deeptoot a reference to agent deep throat from watergate? that's fuckin genius
Micro-Atom battle was why I interest in Ant-man's thing...
14:25 not true by a LONG shot.
13:51 if only
20 YEARS?!
I was eight when this aired! God I’m ancient!
Wait, one of his kids has black hair....DOES THAT MEAN HE AND TOOTIE GOT MARRIED??? OML 😭
I still consider either JTPH 3, wishology, or meet the oddparents a better finale instead of this.
It was their best episode tbh
