- President Biden held a news conference Friday after visiting the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse site and meeting with local officials on recovery efforts. Mr. Biden said every effort will be made to rebuild the bridge as soon as possible.

The fed is going to front the money to the state of MD to allow the bridge and port to be reopened, and the tax payer will be the recipient of any lawsuits that results to repay it

Maybe they should build a tunnel instead of a bridge.
I believe they originally considered that in the 70s when the bridge was built. Too much hazardous materials are trucked through Baltimore (i-95 corridor) so they cant use a tunnel. Needs to be a bridge or trucks have to go the long way around the Beltway to get where they are going.
No way to build a tunnel in the shipping channels. They should have built a second bridge for a backup. I use that Key bridge every day to get to my workplace. Now I have to leave 1:30 hours early to go to work because heavy traffic jams are everywhere and so crazy.

No bridge there anymore. It was never needed to start with. It saves 30 minutes travel time to not many. An 10 to 15 minutes to people going through Baltimore one way or the other.
