    Gibson worship reminds me of Rolex worship. You can get a similar watch with a great Seagull movement on Aliexpress for like $80. Epiphone is like Tudor. I am liking the 50s Epiphone Les Paul but trying to find a light one.

      Save your money. Epiphones are worse crap than Gibsons.

      Rolex, anyone who buys one can show off and people will be like oooo that is expensive, what time is it? and the time will be off because it isnt accurate. But at least it is an EASY SHOW OFF... Buy a $10,000 Guitar and... you cant show it off because in order to do so, you gotta be good at playing.. HAHAHAHAHA thats why those dentists and lawyers dont mention their gibsons when you visit, but they will be glad to show you their rolex

    Like any other big company it's brand recognition. You would think with modern guitar making with c&c machines and a lot of the actual building being mechanized you would that prices wouldn't be so high on standard issue production line guitars .Nice AAA woods are expensive to the likes of me and you because we could be doing a home build and our one piece of quilted maple for the top is gonna cost us more because we are only buying one piece of wood from a specialist supplier, where as a company that are making guitars are buying in bulk and the cost comes down substantially. The bulk of the human labour is the finishing process and after doing some guitar builds I have to say it takes a lot of practice to get to right especially with nitro finishes ( I prefer oil finish it's feels nicer in the hand). I saw a Gibson custom shop guitar about 6 years ago with an oil finish and it was about 6 grand lol. I think without feeling guilty about spending out on a guitar, if I had cash to spare and was getting paid a lot more I would happily spend about 1250 on a Les Paul standard about 1000 on a studio. But 45 year old me in this reality has just purchased the orange blast Harley Benton telecaster for 158 and I may replace the tuners and is perfectly happy with it after a setup it sounds amazing.
    I do setups and guitar repairs and have worked on a good range of different priced guitars and I would say fenders and Gibson's new out of the box from your average guitar shop need a fair bit of work you would think the premium price tag would come with a premium setup. Epiphone guitars are fantastic they come pretty good out of the box.

      @guitarhobbywithdannythemedic  2 года назад

      I looked at the premium woods offering from Precision Guitars and it would make a ton of sense to just use those and save tons of cash over buy something from gibson, and then one can also apply a proper finish to it too..

      @@guitarhobbywithdannythemedic the bill for tools is an eye opener, a good band saw is a must , orbital sander quite cheap, drum sander is definitely a good investment, router, grinder and fapping disks for carving, some good saws , files, japanese rasp file, files, planes. Fret wire bending jig can be made your self plenty of plans on line and many other things I have forgotten.
      Lucky for me I had a pal that was a woodworker that made furniture when I done my builds who let me use his work shop under his supervision. To be honest there are so many guitar kit makers that can put a kit together for you with the woods you want and all you need to do is finishing so if I was to do some more that's the way I would go nowadays. I found one in the UK last year that do your neck and body and I think my dream bulid was walnut body and neck with a flamed sycamore top and a flamed sycamore veneer on the headstock.
      As I remember it would of cost me about 500 ish for it unsealed sanded up to 250 grit.

    Nice looking guitar. I like the flat black that Speedball gives you. I think I like the silver sharpie the best. It should give you a nice contrast, but really any of those would, honestly. The comment about how tribal guitarists can get is true, but that's true in every hobby. People want that sense of belonging to a very exlcusive club... Have a good day Danny!

    I just love the Gibson bashing. I agree with it all. Charging hand made prices for CNC made guitars is wrong as wrong can be, and sheople keep buying them anyway. I understand the psychology behind it but don't agree with the ethics of using psychology against consumers.

    Tribalism has been around since the beginning of time. Pick a side and get a sense of belonging. Sadly it’s what holds us as a civilization back. Marketing and capitalism is what’s used to take full advantage of this. Most people who achieve financial success will reward themselves with something of high stature. I didn’t say high value. It’s a badge of validation. Whether or not they can play is another issue lol. I totally agree with you but there it is. Human nature.

    You're right in that the extra parts are minimal in cost. And while it's technically not a hard thing to do adding binding (gluing, filling gaps, masking and then scraping after painting), from a manufacturing point of view there's still extra work in adding binding. The real question is "Is it worth an extra $1000"? I doubt it, but there is extra cost and skill involved in adding it.
    Even adding a flamed top there's extra cost compared to a solid colour. You need to book match it by cutting it down the centre, re-milling that piece, gluing. Then there's the painting and extra steps to bring the grain out. But again, I doubt it involves $1000 worth of materials and labour. But then again, how many Gibson flame top LPs were made that weren't book matched? Plenty.
    BTW Danny. Before putting your scribble on your headstock with the sharpies, do it on a test piece first and spray some clear over it to make sure the paint doesn't run or smudge the sharpie.

    The Gibson pricing problem is they are charging small uneconomic builder prices even though they are a large builder that has the benefit of economy of scale. Gibson though are much cheaper than Fender. Strats etc. have bolt-ons, pick guards etc. to save on build costs not to make them easier to work on.

    • @guitarhobbywithdannythemedic
      @guitarhobbywithdannythemedic  2 года назад +1

      so true, I wish gibson would be transparent, and show us exactly how much they are profiting.. I highly suspect that their cost to make a 2800 LPS is really like around $350 each.
