  • Today we had these two hillsides that were being overrun with blackberries! The homeowners started working at clearing the blackberries in the summer but after working at it for hours with minimal progress they realized they needed another and faster solution! Several months later they saw one of my posts and contacted me and we get in touch and were able to do exactly what they wanted and cut down all of the brambles!
    With the Stihl FS-240 Brush Cutter, we were able to mulch up all of the brambles on both hillsides giving the owners an opportunity to take action in their future plans for this area!

    Hi David! I can’t imagine what the people want to do with this land after the blackberry bushes have been removed. The ground is full of dips and the hillsides are steep. You even fell a couple times. You are doing a good job in clearing up the landscape!

      Hi Kristine! They want to get the area covered up so they blackberries don't grow back and at the same time they want some native plants planted so they grow instead of the blackberries. Thanks!

    One invasive plant that chokes all others out, should be considered a weed. Great job, please wear reflective orange on the job not all drivers have 20/20. Congratulations, Canada

      Thanks Beverly! In our state the blackberry is classified as a "Class C" invasive species, but I would honestly place it a class higher since it really does kill and choke out native plants.

    The worst plants are those people them self has brought to their gardens and then let them spread. I work with cow pastures and close to gardens there's always a lot of blackberry. They spread alot since the cows won't eat it or even walk through it.
    I take care of it the same way as you do. A blade and cut it from top down.

      It definitely is sad watching native plants being choked out by invasive species. I remember as a kid driving down roads and they used to be clear and it was all nice and tidy. But in the past decade the blackberries have just gone extremely rampant and started really expanding their territory.
      It’s great to hear you’re doing the same work! Thank you Chris!

    There’s David at the blackberry challenge! 😅 This was another big mess for you to clear up and at steep angles too. I wonder what the real time was…. Take care…👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

    How long will this keep the blackberries down? You need some spiked shoes or something for those steep angles

    • @golovinpropertyservices
      @golovinpropertyservices  Год назад

      It's still winter and the blackberries should be down for 2-4months depending on temperatures. If the temperatures fall down to freezing again they will have less chance of surviving.
      I wasn't actually anticipating the hill to be that steep, normally it's easy to move around but due to the area being wet it was slippery.

    Hi,another great video, what would you recommend for keeping them from re growing and tip would be much appreciated,and please keep video s coming,from Wales.

    • @golovinpropertyservices
      @golovinpropertyservices  Год назад

      The best method would be to spray them down after the initial cut and when they start sprouting slightly. That’s the simplest and easiest method that will allow you a 100% guarantee they don’t come back.
      Another option is to manually remove them. Or cover the area with some sort of fabric or cardboard.

    They will have to do some serious herbicide come spring growth. A harsh but necessary decision if the blackberry is to be eradicated.

    If they will weed rolls in the bushes when they start growing back they will be able to control them and also have the berries to eat or sell.

    Like to see all the very effective and efficient vertical cutter head movement. It’s very effective also when cutting tall grass. It’s not something discussed or shown in any OEM user’s guides though. Wonder why they only mention swinging the head back and forth?

    • @golovinpropertyservices
      @golovinpropertyservices  Год назад

      I have used the vertical cutting on tall grass before and it definitely has it’s benefits.
      Back and forth works great when the grass is shorter, probably no more then a foot tall. Any higher and I do a double back and forth motion so that once I’m closer to the ground the trimmer can mulch up the grass.
      The vertical motion isn’t as efficient for grass, but for thicker brush with a blade it definitely helps to chop things up.

    Another good one David. Can you show us how long, in real time, it takes to clear an area perhaps a 5' x 1' strip. It's pretty physical work and it would show how long you were working? How long did this job take.

    • @golovinpropertyservices
      @golovinpropertyservices  Год назад

      I think I could try show casing. This job took me about 5-6 hours. But the main reason being that my blades got dull and they weren’t cutting as efficiently.

      “Banging” mulched up the vines. Side to side doesn’t do anything with blackberries.
