imo she's being dishonest with the private eye story. It's very easy to find out where someone lives. She knew the whole time and probably secretly visited his residence before, but then one day she saw the wife and baby and flipped.

@@rock_stocks_on_the_blocks Nah. I know a woman who was in love with a married man. He told her his marriage was failing and wanted to leave his wife. Of course she fell hook line and sinker for it. They had an affair. He was still with his wife. She was still sleeping with him, on the promise that he'd leave his wife "soon". I can't even tell you how many decades he kept telling her this. And he was still with his wife. Anyway he started chatting to a friend of mine and she got jealous. When my friend went to get her car someone had scratched "Slag" on the back of her car, which in turn made her partner think she had an affair... When you cling to someone who you believe will make your life happy, you want it. It doesn't matter what you tell them, they won't listen to you because love is more important.

    • @Faircafe98
      @Faircafe98 7 дней назад

She was desperate. Why would you want to marry a man that was sick in hospital? At least give him time to recover before love bombing him. She said at the end that she wonders whether she can still be a mother. Whatever happened to adoption? I hope she gets therapy and learns how to love herself and make healthier decisions. Plus one of the major red flags was that she was with her first boyfriend since she was 18 and he dumped her in her 30s. All of the red flags were there but she never learnt her lesson. 😢

The one thing these shows are missing are psychologists to explain to us why people choose to be in these kind of situations and where it stems from, cause as an adult this makes no sense no matter how you look at it.
Edit: I care more about the victim’s mentality more than that of the perpetrator simply because it’s easy or more likely we will be victims than actually acting out as ‘evil’ people. I want preventative measures because I don’t see myself inflicting pain on others easier then pain being inflicted on me. I was not trying to victim blame with my initial comment.

Maybe Dr. Todd Grande will dissect and analyze this case on his Podcast and RUclips channel. Netflix took a sensationalist take. In realty, if one were to dig deeper into the psyche of this woman and her childhood traumas, you'd see a pattern or explanation as to why someone would go 10 years dating someone they've never met in person. It's obsession. Insecure attachment issues at best. This woman isn't right.

What her cousin did was evil but there were plenty of red flags. Sometimes people see what they want to see. At the beginning of the documentary Kirat tries to come across as secure but it is obvious that the pressure of getting married and having children affected her judgement. I thought it was odd that she spend so many years on and off with a boyfriend who got "cold feet" about getting married. "Bobby" also had commitment issues. Two divorces in a span of about three years is not a good track record. Not to mention the outlandish excuses for not seeing her in person or on a video call.

There was clearly childhood trauma which the parents are partially to be blamed for by putting indirect pressure for her to get married. Within the family there are jealous cousins and other family members who probably wanted her not to get married. It's not like she was a loser she had a life and things going on. @@rock_stocks_on_the_blocks well, think about it. What reason did Kirat have to not believe it? She knew her cousin (Simran) was real. She knew Simran‘s bf JJ was real. It’s not far fetched to think he would add her. Bobby and Kirat were friends at first and you don’t need an ID check for an internet acquaintance you talk to occasionally. She met him at that party in Brighton. So she knew he existed. They didn’t get together until way after three years (or even more?!) of knowing each other as friends. She had no reason to believe he’s not real. This whole witness protection thing is sus but if you think you’ve known someone for so long, you don’t get suspicious easily. I understand it’s rather hard to put yourself in her shoes but think of all the victims of love scammers and other catfishers (yk this phenomenon has its own tv show). They all fell for it. Add the pressure to marry from her community. Maybe she was lonely. Probably more gullible than many other people would be but that’s nothing you can blame her for. And back then, catfishing wasn’t as well known and ultimately it’s not her fault someone so cruel betrayed her like that.

    1) the fake profile was based on a real person she had met and had connections too
    2) the messaging all started with very normal and believable things for some time before getting quite outlandish
    3) most normal people would not dream that another human being would go through such extraordinary lengths to dupe them, i.e making up to 30 different characters, all to corroborate the lie

Ok, let's assume for a second that hypothetically Bobby was a real man and not her disturbed cousin. He would still be a twice divorced cheater who fathered a child with another woman while in a long distance relationship with Kirat. Why would you settle for someone so inadequate that is cheating and lying when you aren't even married. The catfish wasn't the main problem, her extremely low self esteem and inability to take action was. That is what really trapped her, not the cousin with the 60 (!) fake accounts. Not all humans can defy tradition, I get it. But after maximum 2 years of online relationship and Bobby not coming to ask the blessing and permission from her parents, she should have dumped him. She was decent looking, with a job, educated and nice parents, why not just let go of the online loser and ask from your parents to find a nice man in arranged marriage and be happy? I agree with the comment that said that deep down she didn't want true intimacy.

Claiming that he was a doctor, that he got shot, that he was in witness protection, that he was in the hospital and the fake profiles that go with these lies - his "doctor" and "witness protection agent" DMing her on FB
...so I don't think the brightest people are recommending this.
The "unreal plot twist" is literally that it was her jealous cousin behind the account.
She figured that out in a week after hiring a private investigator...
So why didn't she do that for 10 years? It honestly makes me believe this was a hoax between her and the cousin to get famous.

I think its horrible to see how many insensitive and cruel people are in this comment section. Yes she was a grown woman who can make her own decisions but she was a victim! You have no idea how it is to live in a society who measures your success by your family status. Getting married and having children is a big deal in her community. People are constantly in your throat judging you. That defines your idea of a success a lot. Leaving that all behind usually means losing your family in the process and most people are afraid to do that and dont even know how. Plus she was in an on and off relationship previously to this whole thing for a long time. Obviously this wouldnt happen to a person who is emotionally stable, and by that i dont mean shes crazy or stupid. She couldnt even talk about these things to her mother and must have felt enormous cultural pressure. If you're under that kind of pressure most of the time you dont see the red flags, especially not if you dont have anyone in your life who ever guided you in terms of relationships or love. This was back in 2011, catfishing and all these crimes was just in the making. Please have some empathy, dont judge a person if you dont know their circumstances. Its all logical to you until you are in that same mental space. My heart goes out to her, I hope she will find true love in her life.

It's really difficult to feel sympathetic towards someone who considers themselves such a victim in this when she had the ability to stop it at any time. I do pity her for obvious reasons, but her participation in this is 100% what made it grow to such proportions. I realize she has to live with her choices as well, but there has to be something deeply rooted in her that is very wrong to waste years of her life on a fictional fantasy that even a child would most likely not believe in after so much time has passed.

Simran's identity was concealed. The irony. And she denies it? Insane. I watched this because, this week, a guy from Ireland, was jailed for 20 years for causing the suicide of a child in America by catfishing and for abusing hundreds of others. The child's father killed himself 18 months later, not knowing why she did it.
    1. The mother, sweet and lovely as she is, horrified me when she said that people in her community would look down on her if Kirat didn't marry. Leave that community.
If Kirat wants a child, maybe she can have her eggs frozen.
The real Bobby and his family are victims too, but Kiran was the target. Please do not allow that freak any further negative power over you.
I hope cat fishing becomes a criminal offence.
May you continue to thrive. X
