    The pursuit of creating timeless images with whatever camera I have access to has been a driving force on my photography journey.
    In this video I make strret images with the Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS point & shoot digi cam. This camera was released in 2010... over 13 years ago!
    The big selling points? Extremely compact. A 14Mp sensor resolution, lens focal range 28-112mm.
    Overall, I my user experience for street was just ok. Though it was very discreet and compact, the ergonomic were not well designed. No option to shoot RAW was disappointing. The image render time was below average at 1 second per exposure, shooting multiple exposures was out of the question. I was surprised that I enjoyed using the zoom feature. I found that I rather enjoyed 50mm and roughly 90 mm for street.
    Not surprised by any of these findings. But I did love experimenting with a new cam, 13 years old or not.
    Have you shot with an old DigiCam before? Let me know below.

    What was the last DigiCam you used?

      I picked up the Canon S95. That's a fantastic camera. There's a customizable ring control around the lens for shutter speed and a foam on the back for aperture control.
      I've picked up a ton of digicams lately and this one has the best balance between simple starter plus some advanced features. It's slim and well designed.

    Hey Ta, Great video as always. Love the back to basics approach you are exploring here, the camera (regardless of make, model) is just a tool and you show that brilliantly here. Creative ideas and vision are king. Great content as always, keep it up Bro!

    Another cool video sir. Enjoy the way these videos are filmed and how they seem to capture the essence of TO (and greater) by focusing on the neighborhood shots instead of the well known locations. I've always liked how working with older photog equipment can be so creatively stimulating - I picked up a AE-1 in Victoria a few years back and had a blast shooting a few rolls on it, until I got them developed and realized it must have a light leak somewhere because every frame had this horizontal line in the same spot haha.

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto  Год назад

      Cheers. I appreciate you taking the time to watch 🙏🏽. Toronto has a lot of great spots, so I just try my best to document what interests me. BTW, that AE-1 is a classic, light leaks are fixable as I'm sure you know. Do you enjoy 35mm? Colour or BW? 🫡

    • @ST-oe5yf
      @ST-oe5yf Год назад

      @@tahaphoto For sure, I tried to fix it with some gaffer tape but either didn't identify the leak source properly/tape it well or maybe it's not a leak and just something scratching the film as it rolls by the aperture? Always loved 35mm, mostly color (portra, ektar) but finding it a little too expensive and time consuming these days (hard to justify $2/photo). What camera do you find yourself using the most? GR ii?

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto  Год назад

      I hear you. Film is costly but I've tried to keep costs down recently experimenting with BW w/ Nikon Lite Touch AF . But RICOH GR II is my main stay. I will be finally upgrading this winter Ricoh GR3 X. Can't wait

    I think there is a "CDK"- hack that enables raw shooting. The jpegs from these cameras are horrible when it comes to dynamic range.

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, there's a hack to set up RAW image shooting . But that's not what I wanted this camera for. Just wanted the vibes it brings (small jpegs and all)👍🏽

    I have 3 Canon Powershots from 2003, 2008 and 2010. My current favorite is the Canon Powershot S95... a great little camera with a lot of features but easy to carry around and shoot stuff with.

    Another great video. Shots were well-composed and interesting. Rain shots were inspirational. Never really bought into the digicam hype but I keep looking for “the one” that will hook me. No luck so far. I use an Olympus EM10 with 7Artisans 18mm 6.3 lens as a substitute and I understand the appeal with limitations and keeping things simple and compact. Did some double exposures in camera and opened up a whole new world. I do appreciate your content. What do you use for editing? Do you ever shoot RAW at all? Do you prefer in-camera editing?

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto  Год назад +1

      I appreciate the kind words. I agree with you about not buying into the hype of digicams. My search always started and ended with camera body size, ergonomics . Your open mind brought you to experimenting with in-camera dbl-exposures. Such a treat, eh? When editing i use Lightroom. I have a few presets as my starting point. I shoot RAW for all my commercial work, the past 2yrs RAW + JPEG on my Ricoh GR II, since I love the option to making "recipes". Honestly, my photography keeps evolving and I credit shooting film and lower res jpegs as a main factor. I just stopped caring about gear a long time ago. I wanna make beautiful, timeless work but I want to be present in the process. Compact cameras fill that void for me. "Shoot your best with less!" 🤫😄 Great chatting with you!!

    Cool, but this is not a digicam. Well, technically it IS a digital camera but yeah. The term "digicam" these days refers to 6-10 megapixel point and shoot cameras with CCD sensors made between 2003-2010. Personally, I would look for the SD900, 950 or 990 if you want the more modern SD line. It's the G7, G9 and G10 in the SD body. They also have larger sensors and better lenses than the 1xxxx series. I have the 950 and it's awesome. Photos are pretty nice though and the video is well made!
