  • War is hell, but it’s also pretty as hell in this 11-11 Memories Retold gameplay. DigixArt are working with Aardman Animations to show World War One from both sides of the fight. Here’s about ten minutes of this stunningly good looking war game to enjoy.
Memories Retold reminds me a bit of Valiant Hearts - you do light puzzling to push the story forwards. One of DigixArt’s co-founders worked on that game at Ubisoft, so it’s not too surprising. What is surprising is the look. The world is presented as an oil painting, with shader tech layering brushstrokes in real time and making it look like a Monet come to life. It’s a game you really have to drink in, so I’m going to step aside and let you watch.
Just a quick bit of setup: the story alternates between two soldiers. There’s Canadian war photographer Harry, played by Elijah Wood - he’s the wide-eyed young man talked into going to war by promises of glory. Then there’s Kurt, a German communications officer played by legendary German actor Sebastian Koch. He’s a pacifist who has signed up to look for a missing relative at the front.
If you have any questions about 11:11 Memories Retold, pop them in the comments and we will try to answer them. Do let us know if you want to see more of this game when it releases on November 9th, 2018. It’s on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
