Targeting call is stupid, what else do you want the defense to do, ask the runner to please sit down after breaking 2 tackles?
Targeting is a necessary penalty the refs just in the NFL call it too much and in college at lower levels miss it, before it players would constantly give each other concussions or even kill each other
sandvich48 the targeting call is necessary so people don't get away by hitting them so hard and getting a concussion by the player by getting hit in the head. I think it should stay.
+Ilvg200 you are right to an extent but in cases such as in this film...what do you expect the defender to do? Is it targeting for making a play? Is it targeting for beng the one defender who is meant to stop that one receiver? When I think of targeting I think about a player purposely going straight for another players head or something but when you see certain replays in general you gotta cry foul when refs call a targeting for a guy who did a normal tackle.

FSU gets the most Targeting calls ever, and a shit ton of them arent even targeting (see 1:06 for an example. I think that one was overturned though, I cant remember. 15 yard penalty still was put).

the CNtaco I didn't. Was it a good game? I haven't really been home since my birthday although I found some time in between going out to put this together. lol If we beat Alabama, I can't even imagine what I would do. There's a chance I might have to work during the game and that's something that will make me cry because I've been looking forward to this game since it was planned back in 2014.

As a defensive player he did everything right, no hit to the head, the receiver turned his head upfield, yet he still gets a flag. Let them hit, you wear pads for a reason

+JustBombsProductions Yeah when I search for a player ( mainly NFL) I see you a lot. Can't lie I get a little disappointed when I don't. Lol. but that's a good problem to have. this year is different because my wife has gotten into Fantasy football with me so I need to show her highlights of these players and most other highlights do the quick screen cuts and barely show the play. also I like the view that's close to what you see when you watch a game and yours always do.

Tyler Mitchell That's great. I like college football more than the NFL because LA didn't really have a team in my lifetime, but now we do! The Rams left when I was too young to even understand football. USC has basically served as my NFL team although I followed the Steelers because Polamalu was my favorite Trojan. Ball carriers lower their shoulders when they see a big hit coming resulting in the defender hitting them up high which triggers targeting calls... absolute bullshit. How is given defender supposed to lower their tackle zone in that split second? I get the whole protect the players idea but I've seen 8+ "targeting" calls this season that have killed the spirit of football. Enough is enough
So where's the issue with brain injuries again? A good hit is a good hit. That's all it's become. In 30 years of college ball, I've seen way more missed tackles than good hits.

Why do Refs just throw flags because they see a big hit? It pisses me off. If it qualifies as legal then its legal. Don't throw the flag because it was a monster hit. I hate referees
why was there a flag on the 3rd hit? the central Florida vs Florida state? that looked pretty clean to me, shoulder to chest yet the commentators said there were flags everywhere. Were the flags on the hit, if so, did the refs look at the hit and redact the flags?

He didn't have full possession of the ball
see and I complain about high school football rules in HS that wouldn't be a flag because the ball touched his hands and he was going for ball that's why college players and coaches get mad because their making football so soft college should be all about hard head hits

1. He didn't lead with his head
2. He didn't hit the other player's head
3. The other player made the catch and made a "ball carrying motion" (turning and taking a step) so there for he is a live player and not a "defenseless player"

About half of these good hits, the other ones are very dangerous hits that should never occur. Don't hit what you can't see.
