I just arrived to Portugal as you are leaving. Your videos have given me so many suggestions of places to visit...I want to see it all! I am amazed at how much is packed into this little country.

He's a very wise man in a very clever disguise. 🤣 It was so much fun getting to show them Portugal and those moments you have in these wonderful places are to be cherished. The Portuguese people you find in the markets here are really what make this such a special place. 😁 More videos with Gazza to come! 😁
Thanks for the tip, Jose. It has been under construction for quite some time. The few times we visited it wasn't accessible but we are really looking forward to exploring it next time in Porto. We've heard it is amazing! 👍😊 ~ Lee
@@FrugalTravellers Oh yes, we visited it more than a few times during our stay in Porto and it's really great. It seems that there will be several new restaurants opening up on the upper level, but most of those were still finishing up construction.
Frugal musician tip... carry cutlery AND a roll of freezer bags for when buffet food gets left over at the end of the night and the hosts encourage you to take some home!
Thank you for your lovely comment, Cindy! Definitely aim to go to Alcobaça on market day as it's a great experience. I wasn't too sure about the colour of that tee shirt, as you might have noticed that I prefer dark blue or black tops, but it was the only colour in Decathlon Alcobaça when I bought it in January 😊😉 Im thinking it's a definite inclusion for our travels in the Middle East! ~ Mandy 😀😁

We love the markets here in Portugal - homegrown produce that's so fresh and delicious. It's yet another reason we love this beautiful country! 🇵🇹❤ ~ Mandy 😀😁
Very nice video about Alcobaça. There's a porrtuguese song wich lyrics are "Quem passa por Alcobaça, não passa sem lá voltar" (who cames in Alcobaça, has to come back") and that make senses because it's a friendly place with an important monastery from the XII century founded in the times of first portuguese king, Afonso Henriques. Cheers.
Hi Luís. I love the sentiment of those lyrics and understand where they are coming from. It's such a charming place and the monastery is spectacular. I love the view over the city from the castle above. Such a beautiful place. 😊
I have a kidney problem and need to drink a lot of mineral water and need to pee a lot, but i dont use the pay public toilets, i go to any supermarket and use theirs (very clean) and free and you dont need to buy nothing. Continente, Lidl, Aldi, Auchan or Pingo Doce all have toilets for free.
@@arturjcrebelo3275 That's such a great tip... thank you for sharing! It's important to note that not all supermarkets have free public toilets... ie the Lidl at Sete Rios train & metro station doesn't, nor does the Pingo Doce in the centre of Caldas da Rainha. Apart from that, yes... supermarket toilets are the way to go, and supermarket restaurants are great value! ~ Mandy

My water bottle started leaking in Lisbon, so the hotel clerk directed us to the Decathlon only a few blocks away. The bottle I bought there for €6 costs $12.99 on their US website! They also have the most amazing system to check out, just put all your items in the bin and all the RFID tags are read at once.
What a great bargain! I didn't know they had that system for reading the tags. That's amazing! We are very impressed with the products they have and have used them many times over the years! A great place to stock up in Europe. 👍😊 ~ Lee
@@FrugalTravellers Decathlon doesn't have a great presence here in the US so it was the first time we could visit one of their stores, which was adjacent to the El Corte Ingles. We met a Canadian couple on the train to Porto a couple of days later. They'd spent a month in Italy and he quickly started talking about how European technology in most retail outlets is way ahead of us over here, and he started out by raving over how quickly he checked out items at a "sporting goods store in Rome last week." I said "Decathlon?" and he said "Yeah, how do you know about them?" 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks, Clement. I'd say about a year to get to a reasonable conversational level. I think it helped a lot that my Spanish was at an advanced level as there are many similarities with the grammar. Keep at it if you are learning. It's well worth the effort. 👍Lee
Which city or town in Portugal was your favorite....meaning if you were to move back to Portugal and settle down, where would you? BTW have fun on your new adventure....
One the best and very close to Lisbon is Mafra, fill at last to me all the boxes. First you pay for your rent half of the price in Lisbon. It's a very clean with lots of green spaces and very, very safe. Close of great beaches like Ericeira, Foz do Lisandro and even Cascais. With the biggest market in Portugal (very cheap lat time there i live in Odivelas is not so close, i buy 2 kg of big Oranges for 1€) it's called Feira da Malveira. With great highways to every corner of the country A21, A8 and A16 highways, close by the biggest airport in Portugal, if you want to visit your country in less than 30 minutes by car of Lisbon and without traffic jams.
