PTL for this detailed tutorial! The instructions included with these units left out some key details, like configure the units to communicate BEFORE mounting them up in the air 🤦🏼‍♂️
Thanks again for this! Very detailed and helpful.

Dude, I really want to thank you for this video. I've just set up these babies in a remote area, and there was nothing to guide me but the name of the device. I don't think I could have made it without you...

Hi Chris, Fantastic video! I just bought these NanoStation locoM5s, for my in-laws, who live in the country. We are now able to send internet from the main house to the barn/shop, some 50 yards aways! I also placed a small NetGear router and gave them wi-fi! This was my first time doing these long antenna wi-fi devices and I'm blown away at how great they work! Many thanks!

How did you configure the remote router (is it also WIFI AP) to redistribute the signal to local clients in the guest building? Do you assign it a static IP or allow it to receive an IP under DHCP? does it need to mirror the SSID of the source network or have its own SSID? any other config settings? thanks

Hello Chris, I just wanted to say a very big "thank you" to you for this video. The IT support firm we use were restricted from visiting my home during Covid and we have waited ages to have the Nanostations set up. I found your video and managed to do the whole job myself which they told me I would need their help for. If you live locally to me I would buy you a bottle of Scotch! Thanks again.

Your videos have been invaluable to me as someone who is new to the Ubiquiti line of products. I had been running Apple Airport networks for the last 8 years upgrading their products along the way. They worked fine until they didn't. Once I started getting all of "the internet of things" devices online, the network just started to fall flat on its face. As of two weeks ago, I'd never heard of Ubiquiti. Now I'm running a Unifi AC AP Pro, EdgeRouter POE-5, Unifi Switch 8-150W, and a NanoStation M5 Loco.

Thank you so much for this. Very clear. I was able to get my M2 bridge up and running in no time. For users totally new to this like me, if you notice a very low "airMax Capacity", you may want to look at the video mentioned which describes how to use "AirView" to locate a better wifi channel. By changing my channel, I was able to go from airMax Capacity 20% to 40%.

Hi Chris - I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you. I just successfully created a NS M5 Wireless Bridge. So excited. I need to get WiFi to the front gate of my property, no electricity there, which is 3/4 of a mile with a clear line of sight from my house. First step tested. Next an access point. Then a solar setup (those videos were great too). I think that this all might do the trick. Also, giving up on my current router. Have Ubiquity equipment on the way so that I can setup and manage a wireless mesh. Thanks again. Scott.

+Crosstalk Solutions... Chris, do you have any experience with the signal having to penetrate walls? I'm curious as I am going to do some testing between two aluminum structures that are about 35' distance. Fiber was cost prohibitive in this instance, which is why I selected these.

You will probably not have great luck trying to penetrate walls with a wireless bridge. If possible - get up onto the roof to get clear line of sight.

In lieu of these point to point wireless videos, can I request a short video describing the differences between all the "Airmax" products? Ubiquity's product page has a total of 30 "Airmax" branded devices. Obviously some are point to multi-point and some point to point but what about the other 20 devices? They seem a bit redundant with some of their offerings. Thanks for these videos!

+Adeel Ahmed The NanoStation says it goes up to 15km, but if you are actually connecting sites that are that far (or even over 10km), I would probably recommend their higher-end equipment instead.

    • @TheGdhungana
      @TheGdhungana 8 лет назад +1

+Anthoni Regis If you are using M2 to connect sites which are 500 meters apart then you better don't use it. Though in an ideal environment, it can go upto 1km as well. But, you are more likely to encounter interference. So, go for M5. You would get a solid connectivity. I have once connected 25km using M5 and still got 5 Mpbs throughput.

I have a Hikvision 16ch NVR and 6 cameras setup and working well on cables. I setup the M5's to add a camera remotely. I have no picture. I have the AP M5 plugged into the power injector POE port, the LAN port from the injector is plugged into Uplink on the switch and Port 1 from the switch runs to port 8 of the NVR. On the Station side I have the cable from the M5 running to the POE port of the injector, the LAN port to the switch (they say any port is fine for the TPlink TL-SF1005P) then the camera plugged in there as well. Any pointers would be appreciated. Cheers

Hi Chris I have a problem we set up a Nano station M5 some 4 years ago at our local church after following your excellent tutorials. The system has worked perfectly with an Access point connected to our US-8-60W switch to provide wi-fi. The LAN cable was inadvertently removed from port 1 on the switch which dropped the connection to our remote internet router. We quickly put the LAN cable back into port 1, but, there is no connection to the internet. There is no LED showing green on port 1 either. Is there a simple solution, or do we have to go through the whole setup procedure again which seems a little long winded. I would greatly appreciate your input and hopefully I can rest easy again.

Hi. Great video. I’m in process of starting a security camera project that will require 25 IP cameras in a residential complex. The complex contain 15-17 buildings and there are trees in between the buildings. We’re planning to install a pole that is atleast 15-20 ft tall for the antennas. We were originally planning to install the ubiquiti Ns-5ac but after watching the video makes me want to change the design. What do you suggest? The cameras will be connected to a standard poe switch and up linked to the antenna on the roof. Would the m5 work? The main clubhouse where we will making it the primary location is located on one side and we want all the antennas to connect back to the clubhouse. Please let me know your professional opinion on this! Thank you

Aloha Chris. Thanks for the video. I can get to the login screen of the M5, but when I put in the credentials, country, click the acknowledgement checkbox, and click the login button, the browser times out with an error that the address can't be reached. Any attempt to access the login page again fails unless the Nanostation is reset. I've tried this on Windows 10 with three different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, and Opera), with and with virus software (Avast) and Windows firewall, as well as on Ubuntu with Firefox. It's driving me nuts. Any ideas?

Hey Chris, I have two Nanobeam AC's coming in the mail tomorrow and after watching your video I know it will be a breeze to setup!
I do have a couple questions though. The Nanobeam's each come with a POE injector and the units themselves only have one ethernet port. So, after everything is configured, should I still be using the POE injectors on both the Access Point and the Station?
I'm guessing it depends on how much power your switch or router has on whether or not you would need them? Would it hurt to use the POE injector if it wasn't needed? Thanks!

Great Video! In your experience, do the units have to 100% aligned to see each other or is there a bit of tolerance on the alignment?

Great video ... did anyone have issues when using an AT&T Uverse service ... seems it doesn't like the last step.

Excellent channel! I have 2 nsm5’s point to point.
Im sending internet from one location to another. At the receiving end I’m running the 2nd nsm5 directly into my old linksys G router so i have wifi at my location. I followed this video exactly. My problem is that I cannot access my antennas via the ubiquiti app on my iphone. They are both set to static ips .10 and .11 per the video. What am i doing wrong? Thanks

Hey Chris, I know this is an old video, but it is still helping people. Do you have any videos that go in detail on the signal ratings on the dashboard, what they mean, and how to improve the link?
I have my link up and running, all seems fine, but I’m wondering if it could be better, optimized? Thanks from Oklahoma

Thanks for the great vid. I have two NSM5 stations which I'd like to to set up a private network for transfering video files to a number of devices.
I don't need any internet access. Can I do this without using a router and simply connect devices to the SSID of the stations? Do I need to use the router mode?

Will you see signal strength on the back of the station or just the access point? I have the power and lan light on the station, but have signal strength on the access point.

...best, most complete and informative videos on the topic. Helped me set up bridges for several remote projects. Thanks, you are an oasis in a sea of barely intelligible, low information, bad music content on the topic!

I have a question, does this installation work above the house, especially in severe storms?

Excellent video - keep up the great work. Couple things.. 1) do you use anything in particular to optimally angle the antennas to each other say they are at different elevations or you just kind of look and gauge it? 2) I notice you didn't set the Station to WDS was that an oversight or it doesn't make a difference?

Chris, GREAT VIDEO! thank you! However, who could I hire if I chose too? You mention what you would do for your customers. Who could/would do the installation?

Hi Chris, Thanks for the laymen's terms allowing us to understand. I am brand new to this so bare with me. ! I can get a location to install a modem to connect to the internet but it is 5,000-6,000 feet line of site to my house where i can not get service. What setup and equipment would you recommend so i can connect my laptop, phones etc wirelessly at the house end? Thanks william

Great video!!! Worked perfect. I was able to connect a remote dvr to my network that is about 1000' away. Is it possible to connect a second station to the same access point using the M5's? If so, would the configuration be the same just a different IP for the second station?
Thanks so much for the awesome instructions.

Quick question. Does the range affect the signal strenght? Let's say i want to have a connection of 200mg/s in a building on my property. I want to renovate a shed in a man"cave" that is 50feet away, will I get 200mg/s at both end ?
Also can I set up a second rooter in the second building?

What is the difference between the M2 & M5? Which one is better to extend the internet from one house to another house across the street?
