The soundtrack for this movie is so iconic. I can't get over just how good the guitar sounds and really just emphasizes the moment. Top 5 favorite movie of all time

I think I saw it as a double with Robocop 2, and the previous week or two I saw Total Recall. Lots of crazy movies out that year... And yeah, where the heck did all the years go...

I always loved the way Randy Quaid made everyone help push the car out. It was a slight mystery as to how the car was ready to run in the race until he reveals at that point that it was his engine he gave and how he cared about helping Cole. Showed class and compassion.
Honestly, I saw it more as Tim(Randy's character) returning the favor to Cole and Harry for helping him get his team established and making it a winner. That and I think he wanted to make his driver Russ earn his win too because why not? He's paying him, so might as well see what he's made of when it the pressure's on.

@@christianrobertsracing1 Some trivia: [... I was in rehab around 1989. Fuck all the action acting shit, this movie always gets me in the feels, everytime I watch this I wish I was a NASCAR driver! Number #1 Tom Cruise movie
My favorite scene of the movie is when Cole "drops the hammer" when testing rowdy's car. That car just barks then roars away at what sounds like 8500 rpm. Goose bumps. Can't wait for next track day
I love the freeze frame at the end. The music puts it over the top. Tom Cruise and Robert Duvall were great together in this movie and played off of each other really well. It's a shame they did not do other projects.
"I'm through it, Harry!" - So true, and a great double entendre! I love these classics because the messages were simple, but true: you don't overcome your fears unless you're willing to face them head on. And once you do, you change. No matter how talented or successful you are, we all crash at some point and have to face our fears and failings. But the only way to really lose is to give up; if you can stay resilient, you can get through it.
I still love the meaning of the beginning of this scene. It relates to things in normal life as well. When he is racing slow at the start and staying in last is because he is scrared. Then a wreck happens just like the one that got him horribly hurt. And in that second he had two choices, lift off and give up,or floor it and get past it.Not only the wreck but also his mental struggles.Once he got past the wreck he was also cured of his fear and came back to life with himself and his driving. This can relate to other peoples normal problems. There is always that wreck we are trying to avoid thats holding us back. But it can be overcome so never give up.
Good movies aren't just about what's happening on the screen. Those events on the screen are metaphors for life, and good art affirms the virtues we need to live a happy life.
What makes this scene even better it's not just Cole facing his fears here, it's Harry too. He too was dealing with his past demons of Daytona during this race. Why else would he tell Cole to blow the motor when the accelerator stuck and then begged him to stop trying to pass Russ during the final laps? He was afraid he'd end up like his last driver and tried to get him to not risk his life. Like Harry did with Cole earlier, Cole made Harry face his fears when he needed to the most and see it through no matter what. As far as I'm concerned, it's beautiful symbolism.

In the 90s the race cars sounded the best. I remember as a kid loved going to my local track Martinsville speedway when nascar came to town. Glad I got to also meet some of the greats like Dale Earnhardt,Neil Bonnett, Jeff Gordon,Rusty Wallace.
I was at Daytona can barely remember it was very young one of coolest memories I have I saw real thing one best movies ever seen it's time for Days of Thunder 2
My fav Tom Cruise movie and my favourite scene, especially from 1:26 onwards, when Cole drives through the crash. Talk about 'feel the fear and do it anyways'! That's where he gets his courage back and then the music hits, and "I'm through Harry...haha I'm outta here!". Freaking awesome :) High concept movie making at it's best!
Kings Dominion (theme park in northern Virginia) in the 90s had a Days of Thunder motion ride where you buckled into a padded seat and the seat emulated the race car during this scene. It was in an auditorium with a big screen and sound just like a theatre. It was awesome.
This movie is probably my all-time favorite simply because I grew up with it and it has a strong Nostalgia feeling and the number of one-liners this movie has I still say to this day and they always crack me up
Keep in mind, the Daytona 500 is the season opener of the NASCAR season, so the fact he wins is like a "Happily ever after" ending, in that we see him return to form and then we can imagine whether he returns to form and wins the Winston Cup or he falls short, the ultimate conclusion is the for the viewer. Also, 2 years after this movie in the Hooters 500, the final race of the 1992 season, the eventual champion Alan Kulwicki needed his pit crew to push his car out for the final leg of the race because his 1st gear gave out.
I can say that I am a Days of Thunder fan when I was 12 years old. I am a fan of the sport of motorsport and this is my favorite spoiled movie and I have it in all three Video formats; VHS, DVD, BLU RAY, I even have the video game in NES NINTENDO
Loved this movie when I was a kid (I used to watch NASCAR all the time with my grandfather). I even own the Days of Thunder NES game (it still works). One of Tom Cruise's best movies.
Robert Duval is such an amazing actor, his reaction when Cole wins is amazing, also everytime i watch this movie, not only does Robert remind me of my grandfather he looks like him too.
When I look back on it, Cole's last lap pass was just a basic mix-up move, but it remains the most epic one i've seen. Definitely didn't think that much when I first saw this movie some 20 years ago.
We had Maverick in 2022 and it was amazing. It still had the magic of the first Top Gun. If they did a sequel to Days of Thunder today, why not? Hell, Duvall is still around. All of the cast is still going. Days of Thunder has been seen a billion times by countless people. God I've watched it at least a hundred in my life. It's a classic. I think it would work if it was done right like Maverick.
As a 41 year old I remember watching this with my best friends who are no longer amongst us. When I watch this on RUclips I'm ten again and my friends that I can no longer see are watching this with me.
When I'm sometimes late for work, I think about the scene, "Cole you'll be at max speed when the green flag drops," when I find that open lane on the free way and fly past everyone.
9:24 “Now can you walk or do I have to carry you? Where to? Victory lane.. Walk? Hell.. I’llraceyourASS!” Cole and Harry foot race to victory lane , end credits roll!
They could put this in the movie theatre’s in 2020 and it would still produce monster numbers. Movies like this never die!

“This guy’s goin down”
- Cole Trickle
I get goosebumps everytime he gets through the crash and starts kickin ass!
I was at Daytona can barely remember it was very young one of coolest memories I have I saw real thing one best movies ever seen it's time for Days of Thunder 2
I love how the motor exhaust sounds in this race
because it's real
They're the actual audio from the cars so it's real
Love that movie that is the best movie ever 🏁👍 I was 8 years old when i seen this and i was hooked on and say to my self i will have a car now 🏁👍
My fav Tom Cruise movie and my favourite scene, especially from 1:26 onwards, when Cole drives through the crash. Talk about 'feel the fear and do it anyways'! That's where he gets his courage back and then the music hits, and "I'm through Harry...haha I'm outta here!". Freaking awesome :) High concept movie making at it's best!
Sinceramente uns dos melhores filmes de corrida que eu já vi!
Excelente filme e sem exagero!
Nota 10
I saw this at the theaters & it's hard to believe it's already been 30 years. Wow how time flies just like those race cars there.
Same here my mom took me to see it when I was 3. I was Instantly hooked and became a nascar fan to this day
Kings Dominion (theme park in northern Virginia) in the 90s had a Days of Thunder motion ride where you buckled into a padded seat and the seat emulated the race car during this scene. It was in an auditorium with a big screen and sound just like a theatre. It was awesome.
Greatest movie of all-time. Greatest ending to a movie of all-time.
"Walk, I'll race you there"
The freeze frame at the end is iconic
2020 and still one of the best movies!
This movie made me feel the same way I felt when I watched Cars from Pixar when I was a child... I love it
This music score to this movie is incredible. Hans Zimmer played a blinder
Robert Duval is such an amazing actor, his reaction when Cole wins is amazing, also everytime i watch this movie, not only does Robert remind me of my grandfather he looks like him too.
They need to make a remaster for this masterpiece like Top Gun.
At 7:56, man I love that part of the music. It has an incredible feeling to it.
9:04 “I really can’t” ... nothing but heart and passion there
Saw this for the first time..phenomenal job boys!!!
does anyone still watch this every week or two cause if so me too! same goosebumps from day 1

Who else cried a little when he won
Kenneth Veach me
I cried and cheered
I always did, and when he made the recovery in the earlier race
I’m ballin
F*vk yeah
I still do
Damn, I love this movie
When I look back on it, Cole's last lap pass was just a basic mix-up move, but it remains the most epic one i've seen.
Definitely didn't think that much when I first saw this movie some 20 years ago.
Still one of the best movies ever made
The management at NASCAR needs to go back and watch this video. Maybe then they will understand why attendance is dropping.
I mean, alot of people died after this movie came out, changing the game.
Maybe you need to stop living in the past
I agree
@@JJA1987 maybe you need to stop acting like a dick
You mean to say Hans Zimmer no longer does the soundtrack for NASCAR?
We had Maverick in 2022 and it was amazing. It still had the magic of the first Top Gun. If they did a sequel to Days of Thunder today, why not? Hell, Duvall is still around. All of the cast is still going. Days of Thunder has been seen a billion times by countless people. God I've watched it at least a hundred in my life. It's a classic. I think it would work if it was done right like Maverick.
Thank you bro my favorite movie of all time.
Same!😁😀😃
As a 41 year old I remember watching this with my best friends who are no longer amongst us. When I watch this on RUclips I'm ten again and my friends that I can no longer see are watching this with me.
7:50 and 9:50 are the best scenes in the world. Any movie. Period, they always make me smile:))
Best movie ever made, no contest!
When I'm sometimes late for work, I think about the scene, "Cole you'll be at max speed when the green flag drops," when I find that open lane on the free way and fly past everyone.
I miss these kind of feel good movies. They just knew how to film action back then. The music, the cut, the emotions, the cars. Just perfect.
9:24
“Now can you walk or do I have to carry you?
Where to?
Victory lane..
Walk? Hell..
I’llraceyourASS!”
Cole and Harry foot race to victory lane , end credits roll!
Days Of Thunder is one of the nostalgic movies
"THIS ONE'S FOR YOU HARRY!"
He's going high.
*blocks high lane*
*Cole goes low*
He's going low!
*Cole puts Russ in the wall*
SON OF A BITCH!!
I can't believe Miss this movie in 90s I was a kid too young man !
AMAZING DRIVE BY COLE TRICKLE
I’ve watched this scene about 200 times and it still gives me goosebumps every single time! PLEASE RERELEASE IT IN THEATERS
“I’m gonna draft him Harry. Make him pull me around the track”. “Ya..ok cole, you don’t have to tell me that. You can just do that”
