Friday Morning turned out to be a lot bigger than originally forecasted with waves estimated to be at least 40 feet cresting the North Shore by 2am at the height of this swell. Fast Forward to 7am and thousands laid eyes on what turned out to be the biggest Swell the Hawaiian Islands has seen since the last Eddie Aikau Big Wave Competition in January 2023.

Waimea may be out shadowed by bigger waves than her these days, but the fact that nobody seems able to turn steep and deep shows the intensity of the Bay!
Yes. Still, it’s odd the great majority of rides are straight off- (not just those on the shoulder).
How very few waves a rider sets an edge. (?)

i guess so. good way to put it. heavy but ain't all that to watch except for an occasional interesting ride. balls out regardless. props to anyone out there. crowded too. gnarly picking off bombs in the midst of a pack.

Lots and lots of folks out there. Love to see good paddle in days. Isn't it crazy though to see Waimea has kind of like the Intermediate size waves anymore with jaws and some of the outer Reef stuff. RLTW 3/75

prob one of the best waves to surf when its really really really crowded
And the only wave where you can drop in and not catch cracks.
Even nowadays nobody takes of Waimea like Da Bull did.

I remember in the 70's how big we thought Waimea Bay was. I body surfed Waimae 7 foot shore break in tge early 80's. Now we see Cloud break... NAZARÉ!!!

Eddie would go..somewhere else without the crowds and epic dropins every wave. Eddie would go to Jaws now. Maybe thats where he was paddling to when he disappeared in the ocean. Looks like Waikiki more than wiamea now.
Surfboard leashes, leg ropes, and kook straps kept many from swimming to the beach.
