literally every time i see a good review i don’t trust it and look to see if it says ad/sponsorship anywhere and 90% of the time it does. i’m not saying every add is untrustworthy but the way tiktok is formatted and the wa they make these tiktoks makes it seem like just some girl in her bedroom trying makeup and loving it when really it’s an ad and it feels just so deceiving

i will say- when mascara ads are on tv - most of the time there is “lash enhancement added” or “individual lashes added” listed underneath so you know the image shown isn’t JUST the mascara. I wish she had mentioned something like “this mascara looks really good with false lashes” or something to that effect.
thats what i was thinking, if she had said "im wearing some fake lashes, this mascara is good for blending my natural lashes with fakes one etc" she wouldnt be in this drama. but instead she went to the comments to say its just her natural lashes like gurl tell the truth.

I always thought this but I saw a make up artist on tiktok who was a mua for maybeline I think, and she said they have to sign a clause saying that there isn’t any false lashes added 🤔

I’m personally a brown skin girl and I usually watch brown skin beauty influencers bc of similar skin tones and the concept of colour theory etc..BUT Soph is one of the few influencers I watch bc she really is as honest as it gets and ultimately being honest gets you far, I’ve listened to her advice many a time and I don’t regret it BECAUSE she’s honest! so thank you Soph! ❤

Well done on sticking to what you believe in and having morals and care for your audience. These people forget that due to their job they are often given hundreds of products for free whilst someone who works hard like myself, will still save up and research a makeup product for hours, sometimes days to splurge on before purchasing. Knowing even after all that research it might still be money down the drain. To think people have turned to lie or exaggerate products in their own favour is not nice to know. To me, I know that some people will make something viral just to make it viral and push how 'good' it really is because we as an audience would love to believe something can make us look so flawless. I have always watched you but now have so much respect for you also. Thank you for always being honest.

I literally just came to this video after watching Steph's newest upload 🥰 I love them both! I went from watching the bigger creators that everyone thinks of when you say "beauty gurus" to finding smaller creators who are so much more genuine and relatable and it's been amazing watching them all grow these last few years because they truly are great and honest reviewers. I know no amount of money will change Soph or Steph for that matter as a person you can tell they are just genuinely themselves and have integrity. We appreciate an honest relatable creator 💜

To follow on from my first comment, I also can 100% see the false lash band. I understand people have their reasons but to reply to people in her comments and lie repeatedly was what shocked me the most. She should have just owned it and apologised and it wouldn’t have been this bad!

I love how Soph is like the only person I’ve ever seen who does that test with the makeup sprays. It’s really cool to see which ones actually set your makeup rather than someone just testing it and talking about it in a speed review type of video.
And one of the other problems with TikTok and any short form reviews, it’s way to short to fully explain how a product looks and wears. Take the kvd good apple balm foundation, it might look amazing at first but every single RUclipsr who tried it didn’t like it because they just saw “wow this is beautiful” but nothing about how it looked at the end of the day or even how it looked after an hour. It is really frustrating how many people and brands still try to sell mascara with false lashes though, I think the average person doesn’t have the time or skill to wear lashes so it’s super annoying to see a mascara look amazing on an ad, but when you try it it barely does anything since the ad was using falsies. Even if they do disclose that, it doesn’t do a great job at showing what the actual product is supposed to do but that’s just the short version of my thoughts on TikTok influencers and mascara
And if I can offer a suggestion for a smaller and trustworthy creator, Kelly Gooch is one of my favorites for the last couple years (that sounds crazy but I’m sure I found her in 2021) she got me hooked on Sigma eyeshadows and now I have four palettes but they’re so good, no regrets here
That's how I feel about Robert welsh. He's always honest about everything, so when he says something is good or shit I believe him.
