    I can picture them going over the battlefield after it was all over and picking up equipment off the fallen. "Look mum, body armour.... I'm gonna get promoted to Principes for sure now !"

    Good timing. I was just arguing with someone over roman legionaires and noticed there was almost nothing on the wikipedia page for the rorarii

    I've heard about it as a Pre-Marian unit from Rome 2: Total War
    So when can you talk about the "Evocati" that still serves in the legion?

    • @AncientHistoryGuy
      @AncientHistoryGuy  Год назад +1

      @@AncientHistoryGuy also how about the Hellenised armies of Egypt after Alexander or Pontic Legionary imitations?

      @AncientHistoryGuy  Год назад

      @@samym1694 Im focusing on this time frame in Historical Warfare at the moment, but gradually will be going up the centuries as time progresses, Im already looking at describing the various different legionary types and how they looked depending on where they were in the world during the early Empire, as well as the various imitation legions, plus Ancient Greeks own experimentation with more flexible units, Hemithorax, Thurospears, e.c.t

      I was thinking the same! Before this I was confused as Wikpedia says they were skirmishers

  • @youvebeengreeked
    @youvebeengreeked Год назад +4

    So Velites upfront, then Hastati, Principes and Triarii, THEN Rorarii?
    Equites on the wings.

    • @AncientHistoryGuy
      @AncientHistoryGuy  Год назад +4

      And then more skirmishers in the back to fill in any holes :)

    Why do you pronounce echelons with a hard ch resembling a k?

    • @Temedgin
      @Temedgin Год назад

      He misspronounces a couple of things. I'm guessing he does it for the same reason map makers create places that don't exist on their maps. It's a trap for people who steal a creators content & reproduce it.

      Me and Alex are from the southwest of England. Usually we talk with quite heavy emphasis on Rs even when there ain't any. That being said in comparison to most somerset/Wiltshire people we actually don't have that strong of an accent unless we are speaking to others in our local regions :)
