  • It's no surprise to me that ancient Aboriginals who first inhabited the Grampians, believed the surreal landscapes and animated structures of sandstone were designed by a creator named Bunjil in a "dream-state". I have searched the planet for the last sixteen years in hopes of discovering the type of stone and setting which can only be conjured through intense imagination, or extremely vivid dreaming.
    In 2011, I discovered it.
Otherworldly is an understatement, and the whole place reminds me of Pangea. There is something incredibly hard to digest about the whole scene; it's a regular sensation to wonder if everything you experience out in the bush is actually happening, or if you are about to wake up in your bed on the other side of the planet... desperately trying to remember what just happened...if that electric blue sandstone with spider web quartz and lightning bolt-like rails were actually real... if the sun really looked like it was setting into an ocean of fire...and if the birds you heard actually exist.

this moment when dave says: blabla skin gone...blabla too weak... and then just climbs another v14 FA! classic!

He should have named it "A Fabrication of Our Imagination"

Yes because how the fuck do you rate that a 14 if you topped out on limited time and almost no rest days? Maybe 14 really isn't that high or maybe the V-rating system is just stupidly run-out to begin with.

***** or maybe he usually does a V14 faster. At one point in the video he says it might not even go down, and that he was harder than he though it would be. Also seems like he mainly focused on this line as much as possible. He has been setting standards forever now, and climbed a ton of 14s, and 15s.... so I'm sure he has a pretty good guess at the grade seeing as he worked so hard on it. Nalle was there and if it was anything easier I'm sure he would've repeated it as well and nobody would've made a big deal.

Besides being a gifted boulderer/climber, Dave seems to have a humility and generosity of spirit that seems so kind. I don't see someone like him becoming jaded/too cool, but only time will tell. Very refreshing; and the music during the first ascent was very warm and beautiful. Nice work;a magnificent line!

Yea I totally agree, he seems pretty down to earth. Also notice how he scrambles 3rd class up to the top for a true topout, where other high level climbers would probably not care so much.

That line would for sure be the gem of the boulder.

The edge of the flake right before those nice juggy looking things near the top just looks way too thin. It would basically add a second crux to the problem. Might be able to lunge past that part. But I think considering the limited time he had with all the rain, it made sense to go with the more solid line after passing the opening crux.

What a sick line that is!! For people who haven't climbed in the Grampians it is such great rock, fine grained but with great friction. I climbed for a couple of weeks and had skin left, it's usch a great place to climb.
