The problem is car manufacturers don't make a lot of money from bare bone models. They would rather produce more higher-end models to increase their profit margin. Also, with more and more stringent safety regulations, ICE vehicles are getting more expensive year over year. Meanwhile, Tesla was able to lower their price steadily. The difference between ICE and EV pricing is diminishing.
The truth is without the mandate, the big 3s and legacy auto makers will need to spend resources to develop both ICE and EV which make them hard to be competitive.

You can produce 100% renewable energy from Hydro, Wind, Solar, and partially from Nuclear. Many of the states have a majority of their power produced by these sources. Even with the WORST power made by Coal plants, running an EV off of them still becomes a net positive after about 40,000 miles when accounting for manufacturing of the battery. You have to remember petroleum itself also has to be refined and transported at a huge environmental cost.

If we avoid going electric and fail to compete, we’ll become the Blockbuster to China’s Netflix. Chinese EVs are already cheaper, more reliable than ICE cars, and are being adopted globally at a rate that should concern us. Compete now, or in 10 years, say goodbye to our automakers-we won’t be able to catch up technologically. Americans, as they did with Japanese cars, will choose the affordable, reliable option. Let’s do what we do best: compete, innovate, and move forward. Stopping innovation would be a death sentence for one of our biggest industries. From 2016-2021, China made massive strides and due to trump era lax regulation, US makers got complacent and didn’t innovate faster; we don’t have the luxury of waiting anymore

@@larryjolicoeur7169Yes I believe the EV mandate should go. I didn’t buy my electric vehicle because of some mandate. I bought mine because after doing careful and thorough research I knew that electric vehicle ownership would be a far superior experience when compared to the outdated old fashioned gasoline vehicle experience. After nearly two years of owning and operating my electric vehicle I find my research was spot on. Charging at home, extremely low maintenance, efficiency, smooth and quiet ride and quicker than any gasoline vehicle I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned many. I don’t think it’s needed to force people into electric vehicles, they will eventually realize that they’ve been bamboozled into believing these cars are not viable for everyone. They actually are. Elon Musk is the wealthiest man in the world because of this fact. And if politics had never been hindering EV adoption there would be so many more on the roads than the millions there are now. I think Tesla cars are not very attractive so I went with another brand and I’m 100% happy with mine and will NEVER go backwards to outdated old fashioned gasoline and all of the expensive maintenance that comes with them. The real issue is how this hurts ford chevy dodge which also uses other foreign manufacturing for their EV or rebranding such as honda and vw for Chevy and Ford.
The real issue is if your car is American built here, you will be able to right off interest.
Thats a $5k savings on average, so tesla goes from $7500 to $5k credit, and the other manufacturers have no ability to collect it because they build the parts outside america or assemble outside america.
Guess will see tesla get bigger and everyone else race to build and manufacturer in America again.

You are correct. The governor of California and his administration, including CARB, are doing everything they can to make gasoline unaffordable so people will be compelled to either use mass transit or buy electric.

I applaud universal emission standards. Here is the list - Get rid of CARB in California. Bring Diesel Trucks back without all the restrictions for the truckers. Universal fair gas prices in California. No more special blend gas nonsense. Get rid of the gas tax. California is falling apart and most people are broke. EVs cost more to charge than to pay regular gas. There no such thing as zero emission trucks or RVs.

Taking care of your vehicle properly to begin with is the real key. 144,000 miles on my brother's 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport with the CVT. No blown headgasket, no transmission issues and one A/C compressor replacement (Honda and their A/C compressors just don't work together at times). Overall, his vehicle is working great! That's including the 27Won rear engine mount rattling the vehicle!
